the workforce. Because of a lovely KU connection who shall forever remain nameless, I will start work on Monday next week. That is if I pass a drug test. I asked if they check for hershey dark chocolate, and they said no.......so I should be in.

KU is certainly a good place. If we can keep the "greater than thou" people out or maybe just ignore them. it can be like it was before.

kwgraniteguy --- 10 years ago -

Congratulations!

aragon --- 10 years ago -

Congrats!!!

Leila --- 10 years ago -

Good for you, RM!

jacobson --- 10 years ago -

Isn't that saying you are "greater than thou (them)"?

However, congrats on getting a job.

Amen sista.
Congrats on the new opportunities!

jacobson --- 10 years ago -

Jacobson - you are an idiot. that will never change no matter what name you choose. I will pray for you.?

Well Red, I only have one name and I think that even people who think they know more than God should be allowed to participate on the forum.

Since you like to call people names, maybe you should be praying for yourself and Cajunmom.

Regardless, I'm still glad you acquired employment.

Alaska Again --- 10 years ago -

Not a good sign!

Oilfield services giant Schlumberger announced thousands of layoffs across the company in response to the downturn related to oil prices.

Local 2 News first told you about the pending job cuts on Tuesday.

A statement from Schlumberger read, in part: "Reducing staff numbers and reviewing future staffing requirements has become necessary in today?s lower commodity pricing environment and anticipated lower exploration and production spending in 2015."
Quick Clicks

Halliburton announces layoffs of Houston employees

In it's fourth quarter report, the company wrote, "...Schlumberger decided to reduce its overall headcount to better align with anticipated activity levels for 2015. Schlumberger recorded a $296 million charge associated with a headcount reduction of approximately 9,000."

Schlumberger would not say how many of its more than 120,000 jobs worldwide would be reduced in the Houston area.

The company is the latest to cut jobs within the energy industry, following Halliburton, Apache and Swift Energy.

I am a lucky dog. Jesus takes care of me.

Let me say that I just learned of a person of importance at my site that was let go this week. They had to escort this person out because they had proprietary knowledge.

They collapsed when they arrived home and have been hospitalized for a nervous breakdown.

Shall I say it is hard. I said goodbye to a 10 year career that I did not expect. Coming home to tell the people that depend on you is the hardest thing ever. Not because of money, but because you feel like a failure.

This particular individual spent 40 years dedicating his life to his career. Somebody bought his career and ruthlessly let him go.

I pray for him and I ask that you do as well. I will not give his name out of respect. Just pray for the "good guy"
oo
I will say that SLB has not in this world thought about this. They have let go good people and kept a pile of trash that will only do them harm.

I don't say this out of sour grapes...I don't. why would I? I already have a new job. But I do miss going there every day. It is like loosing a family member, yet my intellect understands.

Is that not confusing??

aragon --- 10 years ago -

They had to escort this person out because they had proprietary knowledge.

One of the most despicable ways to treat a long time employee.

Unless an employee has given reason for suspicion or made threats they shouldn't have to endure the humiliation of being walked out by rent a cops.

This was done to a friend of mine once. One of the most honest and decent people I worked with.

The treatment he received on his last day ruined morale for many months and probably was a root cause of some turnover.

Crappy treatment of long time employees has consequences.

Cigawitz --- 10 years ago -

What's really going on with oil prices? Just raise the price of gas a nickle so millions don't lose jobs. Has demand dropped - don't we need the same amount of people working to make the same amount of gas? Is this the fault of robots or sour grapes by the Pubs cause Obama said no to pipeline???

Gigix4 --- 10 years ago -

It makes me sick at the stomach to know what these people are going through. Having survived 5 major layoffs, downsizing's, re-orgs or whatever corporate wants to call it at the time, I can sympathize with each and every one of them. The last one ... I was the one having to tell staff they didn't have a job there anymore and I think it was one of the most emotional days I ever had at work.

Only once did we have to have the employee escorted out but that was due to the employee's emotional status at the time. Really sad ...

them --- 10 years ago -

That's great news, Red.

So happy you were able to get on Mulchie.

Work in Progress --- 10 years ago -

The layoffs are affecting so many wonderful people. RedMulch, I am so happy that you have found a new job. I hope it is less stressful and more fulfilling. I wish you the very best.

GrannyX5 --- 10 years ago -

Congrats RM........hope it lasts at least 30 yrs

RedMulch --- 10 years ago -

Thanks to all for the good wishes. My new job is totally risky and dangerous. Reason being: there is a Cheesecake factory in the Galleria. Pray for me.

AwesomeTattooedDragon --- 10 years ago -

AwesomeTattooedDragon --- 10 years ago -

I would find the proximity to shopping much more dangerous!!!

voice of reason --- 10 years ago -

Regardless, I'm still glad you acquired employment.

why not just admit that's only because you didn't want her on the public dole. congrats r.m.

Gigix4 --- 10 years ago -

Reason being: there is a Cheesecake factory in the Galleria.

LOL - I worked in the Williams Tower since it was built and can tell you that the Cheesecake factory is a lot more tempting than the shopping, so I will pray for you ... a LOT! LOL

Not to mention shopping during lunch at the Dillard's!

However, the traffic can be awful around there - especially at Christmas time!

RedMulch --- 10 years ago -

Gigi can you tell me how to get to the 59 HOV lane from the tower parking garage? lol
