FurBabies. The shop is very clean and the animals are treated like family members ...281-713-8900. Only shop I trust with my baby girl.

Anyone know where Allison who used to be the groomer at Fur Babies works now?

kwag96 --- 10 years ago -

We used to love Fur Babies, but have had horrible experiences the past couple of times. They have all the dogs come at one time and put them in crates stacked on top of each other. I took my dog in at 10 and he wasn't done until 4:30, so he sat in a crate for several hours waiting. Then when we picked him up, they had shaved him completely without our knowledge or us requesting that. They then proceeded to tell us that our dog has always been difficult which is something we've never heard from anyone there and that we have had him shaved all the way down before.

I would also love to know where Allison went because we never had any issues with her. We won't be going back to Fur Babies again!

After one of my small dogs had a problem after grooming at petsmart I decided to groom him myself. I purchased a dog clipper, watched lots of youtube videos about grooming my breed and have done it myself several times. I must say it is easier than I thought it would be. He behaves well as he has been going to the groomer since he was a little puppy. I must say, he looks really good and it saves me $42.00 every six weeks. I have already recouped the price of the clippers.

Pet Ranch has Grooming...

freebyrdll --- 10 years ago -

Thanks andreweggplant :))

A couple years back we (Pet Ranch) had a very talented but RUDE groomer who singlehandedly ran our customers off left and right. People who had been grooming customers for years hesitated to say anything to us because they didn't want to upset us. The problem festered until a couple of customers started sharing their experiences with us when we inquired as to why they had taken their grooming business elsewhere. Thank God they did and when we confronted our ex- groomer she didn't deny it. Rather, she said that she had plenty of customers and didn't have to deal with the ones that she didn't like.... WRONG!! She forgot those were Pet Ranch customers... NOT HERS. We let her resign.

Today we have 2 wonderful, talented, caring groomers on staff. The only problem now is that they have a very heavy customer base making booking an appointment within a reasonable time frame a problem. We hope that people might try booking in advance... We welcome new customers and value your business!

TIA

Pet Ranch)

Are you in the HEB center? My MIL went there and had to make her next appointment right away to insure her dog would be groomed on scheduled.
She decided to groom him herself after a few times. She did like the service, she just did not like having to make her appointment so far in advance.

andreweggplant --- 10 years ago -

I made my appt on Saturday for Friday the 10th. Didn't think that was too bad... Fit my schedule anyway. Sort of like making my appointment to get my hair done. I usually have to do that a month to 6 weeks in advance to get in when I want to.

The time I tried Pet Ranch last year they required dropping off the morning and picking up in the late afternoon. Petco at the front of kw also requires leaving them there all day.

Be careful of shops that can turn them fast. A thorough groom is a multi step process... Brush out, rough in, trim nails, hemo & clean ears, bathe & do the anals, force dry (no heat), finish dry at the table then the final finish cut. A lot of time can be cut out by cutting corners and/or using "heated cage dryers" to dry your dog. Heat dryers used in kennels are definitely a potential health hazard for your pet.

2 hours is reasonable. 4-6 hours is too long to be locked up in a crate without food, water and potty breaks during the day. (Assuming the dog is not trained to stay in a crate all day, mine is not).

gunsnroses --- 10 years ago -

Freebyrd. I am also a victim of your previous rude groomer. Now that she is gone I will come back :)

Agreed - I have a standard poodle and have done the grooming myself, it takes a looong time

"heated cage dryers"

I think that is why my dog had very red ears that eventually the skin peeled off of. I think they left him under the dryers too long.

@ gunsnroses...

Thank you so much!

@ Valentine....

You are right. 4-6 hours is too long for a dog to be locked up in a crate. That is why professional grooming establishments have employees on staff to see to those specific needs (periodic watering, walking, etc.). We cannot feed our customer's grooming dogs as many pets have food allergies and people often forget to alert us to that fact. Special need dogs such as lactating females with pups at home, hypoglycemic prone and/or diabetic dogs are prearranged for an early check out at the time they book. Hopefully this gives you a little clearer picture of your pets day when he/she is groomed in our groom room or any others professionally run grooming facility.

Furbabies does not have all the animals come in at one time nor do they use heated dryers..

freebyrdll --- 10 years ago -

I'm sure they have staffing on hand to expedite their process. I've only heard good things about them

Be careful of shops that can turn them fast.

Very true.
Also, when it comes to having to wait for an appointment, that is a good sign, it's usually worth the wait. When it comes to Pet Ranch, it IS worth the wait!

Thank you Sicillian!!

Hi:

I ran into Allison a few weeks back. She is at home now helping take care of her parents, but I believe she would like to return to work, depending on her parents situation. Allison always did a wonderful job on my pups.
