What do you buy there if you do?

dogs --- 9 years ago -

Gift bags, tissue paper, index cards, Sharpies, name brand toothbrushes.

Butterbean --- 9 years ago -

Lots of stuff. Some stores have a much wider variety than others and serve a wider community.

Just kidding. :D

I buy reading glasses, some paper goods but the truth is its not cheaper than other stores on a lot of their stuff. Smaller sizes, off brands that are awful, etc.

At Christmas, wrapping paper and cards and gift containers are great. And candy.

Condoms

Most things from the dollar store break. What is your review of dollar store condoms? Feel, smell, taste, durability?

SagaciousSighFiGurl (Mod) --- 9 years ago -

Dollar stores:

helium balloons
gift bags and tissue paper
foilpans
metal serving utensils (I'm always taking things to potlucks and my servingware gets lost or forgotten, so I just pick up several when I go to the dollar store and don't worry if they aren't returned)

Cards, envelopes, padded mailers
sometimes I find plastic ware for drinks outside

I also go to Aldis once in a while. They have wonderful chocolate.

We clean them!

Dollar Stores are good for last minute items like picnic supplies like paper towels, paper plates, foil.
They are a whole lot faster to get in and out than walmart.

Miss Understanding --- 9 years ago -

Following article is about toxic items sold at dollar stores.

I like the foam and paint brushes. I can just throw them away. Cards, gift sacks and envelopes. I buy the knock off cleaning erasers. They clean just as well to me and the name brand doesn't last any longer.

I read the article referenced.

Most of the problems seemed to be associated with plastics.

I saw no problems with food products.

I am most familiar with Dollar General stores. For small towns, the stores are a real blessing. The business model provides availability of a huge quantity of goods to people that may, for whatever reasons, be limited by economics or circumstances.

Many smaller towns use the stores as a replacement for the businesses that vanished with the advent of easy transportation.

Yes, it's good to have a watchdog for safe products. Maybe I missed it, but I read no specific damage that has been caused by any specific product.

I applaud the Dollar type stores, whatever their name.

Always go to the dollar store for writing and drawing tablets, pens, pencils, tape, crayons and things like that for the grand-kids!

Good place to get paper plates,throw-away cups/plastic cups, aluminum pans, plastic ware for holidays and parties.
