I was wondering if anyone knows any information about homeschool transfers for Humble isd. I have homeschooled my child for kindergarten and she will be in 1st grade this coming year. What are her requirements to enroll in 1st grade public school after homeschooling for Kindergarten?

Check the Humble ISD website for district requirements and your specific elementary school for dates/times for registration. All you should need is a birth certificate, proof of residency (utility bill, lease, contract, etc) and your drivers license. There's a bunch of stuff to fill out online to before you go to the school.

Are you really sure you want to do this to your kid? In this area, there are great homeschooling opportunities.

We just moved here from Dallas and was just seeing what the requirements were. I have yet to find any homeschool programs here in Humble. Please fill me in on the programs they have available here. Or where I can go to research myself. It would be much appreciated.

I hear there's a homeschool in Bear Branch over on Sandy Forks. The only house in the subdivision with a 9 car garage. You can't miss it.

I was thinking the same thing. I homeschool after pulling mine from PS. You couldn't pay me to put them back in.

So what curriculum would yall suggest to use here? I have seen plenty online but do not know if they are legit and if they are even worth it?

As far as putting your child in school here, I think you just go and enroll them once it gets towards the Fall semester. In Texas, I believe that it isn't even the law that you have to send your child to Kindergarten (or at least it used to be that way), so there should be no issues. My mom homeschooled me and my siblings for many years, and some of us went in and out of elementary school and she never had any issues with enrolling us.

If you are wanting to stay homeschooling, the other posters are right there are a lot of great opportunities here. As far as curriculums, there's a ton of stuff you can choose from that I think, from my experience, is good. I really like Alpha Omega, for one. There are also homeschool groups here that do field trips, parties, get togethers, and even offer fun classes for your student. I am a teacher at Super Friday (teach 6 year olds) through Home Run Ministries and it is just a Friday morning of fun where kids get the chance to socialize, make crafts, learn, play outside, do PE, etc.

I stared out using Abeka homeschool books when my first one was in kindergarten. I really like them for reading and english/grammar. I used Abeka materials till my first was in about the 7th grade and then ventured out and started picking and choosing what I liked from the vast materials available for each subject. If you are afraid you will make a mistake just go ahead and get everything for whatever grade you need in Abeka. It is a very well rounded curriculum and your child will not miss anything.

Others I have used are Apologia, Saxon, Switched on School House, and many more.

You can also visit The Homeschool Store at 12315 Ann Ln., Houston, Tx. 77064 (281) 890-4295. They sell new and used curriculum. It is a great opportunity to look at materials to see if you would like them. Here is their website: http://www.thehomeschoolstore.com/Contact-Us.php
