I am a twenty something moving from my parents' house in kingwood, and I need help loading my stuff on Friday, 8/5.

Parents are out of town (I think they planned it that way ;) and I cannot lift things like furniture by myself, so I need 2 people to help me.

Major items I need help with: two bookcases, chest of drawers, filing cabinet, three small end tables, some boxes. It's not a lot, but I can't do it alone!

Willing to pay - what's fair?

If you empty everything you should be able to move that stuff yourself. I'm sixty years old and a woman and I would tackle that.

SagaciousSighFiGurl (Mod) --- 8 years ago -

Do you have a truck? Some moving companies charge by the hour and they provide the vehicle. An hour wouldn't be that much.

sheddy --- 8 years ago -

When we moved our entire house they charged by how many people came, how many hours the worked and they charged from the time they left their business and returned there. You can go rent a uhaul trailer for little money. It really sounds like you and a friend could do this yourself.

Kind of a suspicious post.

Sounds like he/she needs help stealing stuff from an occupied house she knows will be vacant this weekend.

Elise1990 --- 8 years ago -

Goodness gracious! So much suspicion, maybe I'm better off posting on Craigslist?

I am the original poster - the furniture is definitely too big to move by myself--I need help! I do have a vehicle already. And I wish I had a friend in town that could help me - that would be much easier than paying somebody - but having just moved back to Houston after 8 years, none of my friends live here still, and my family will be out of town.

Most moving companies require a two-three hour minimum, with several people, for several hundred dollars. I'm a teacher and I do not have several hundred dollars to spend on movers, so I'm trying to figure out another way. If you know of a company that does not have a minimum, that would be helpful too!

Lots of judgment here, not a lot of help...thought my Kingwood community might come through for me, since I grew up here, but maybe not. Please, if you know someone who might be interested, let me know. Have a nice day.

Is there no one around your parents house that has a teenage son? Maybe if you asked a neighbor they would know someone who could help you. It really doesn't sound like you have much to move or anything too heavy. I have two daughters that moved every year they were in college. There wasn't much the two of us couldn't handle.

Goodness gracious! So much suspicion,

Yes, because this kind of stuff does happen.

You can always go down 494, between Porter and Kingwood, and find some people to help you.

Elise1990 --- 8 years ago -

I am a single woman by myself, it makes me feel safer to find someone in my own community.

napoleon --- 8 years ago -

Have you tried posting on kingwood.com - I think I read a while back that someone's teenage sons were looking for odd jobs. Or like someone suggested do any neighbors have teenagers that could help you? Good luck!

MovingHelp.com

This site created by Uhaul is exactly what you're looking for.

False sense of security isnt a good idea either. Id be pissed to find out strangers from a local msg board were in my house. Or worse, Craigs List. I guess Id be glad youre ok.

Wait for daddy to get home and make him do it. Daddy daughter time.

Eliza2 --- 8 years ago -

ask your friends and provide pizza and beer when you're all done.

THAT WAS ME...ALL of my boys have graduated High School, gone to college or military or have full time jobs...so I am out of helpers now...

I would suggest posting something at the Library or the Lone Star College Campus, maybe someone can use extra cash to help you.

Elise1990 --- 8 years ago -

I'm the original poster. Thanks for everyone's suggestions - I found some help! I received one or two very helpful and supportive responses. And thank goodness! That's the Kingwood I remember.

I do have to say though, I'm very surprised at the responses from some of my neighbors on here. I grew up in Kingwood and have always thought of this place as helpful and neighborly. The judgment, suspicion, and negative comments on a post like this are ridiculous.

Some gentle feedback for the naysayers--maybe next time one of your neighbors uses this website as a place to ask for help - believe them and offer assistance, or just stay out of the way. No one needs your accusations or "suggestions."

Hope y'all have a good week.

I glad you found some help - good luck with the move.
