I was looking on my bank activity, and I saw several items that looked sketchy- I called Facebook about one, and the tech said my computer was completely infiltrated by the dark web! I was referred to a tech company who came on line and went thru my computer, etc- watch out people! These people are in Nigeria!

Zapper009 --- 8 years ago -

Why would anyone call FB for possible fraudulent activity.

Get a virus protection package and periodically backup your personal files...

Did you call the Fraud Department at your bank - yet?

BestOne --- 8 years ago -

You let them in. You had good instructions on what to do and not do. You went to facebook for a recommendation. WOW...really bad idea. I would have never used any recommendation of a tech company online. Worse thing you could have done!!! Never do that ever....They probably put more on than was ever there.

BestOne --- 8 years ago -

You need to take your computer to a reliable local place and have them check your computer. A lot of those online companies rip you off.

Zapper009 --- 8 years ago -

BEST - totally agree with you...

She went to FB bc they were on her credit card charges so she called about every questionable charge. She didn't randomly go there. you guys think the IT Dept at FB is going to send one of their customers to a scam company?? Why would they do something that compromises their OWN reputation??

It's sad you can't trust anyone anymore, and I highly doubt FB's fraud dept would do that.

"You let them in" Really?? I guess everyone ever hacked let them in. She actually has much better protection than most including Kaspersky and others. The truth is she shops a lot online, that most likely is why. This week 2 of my FB friends have been hacked. It's SO common now, it's ridiculous. No one lets them in, Lol.

BestOne --- 8 years ago -

Most hacks are done when you click on a bad link. That let's people in. They now make links that look perfectly good but go to bad places w/o you knowing. While there are a few good companies that will fix your computer online turning over control of your computer to one of them is NOT good. Always take your computer to some one local who is reputable. Also online companies normally charge way more than what is necessary.

BestOne --- 8 years ago -

To get into your computer the hackers MUST KNOW your modem password. Highly doubtful they know that. Therefore the only way they can get into your computer is to LET THEM IN.

Karras --- 8 years ago -

Anyone ever use PC Matic? They advertise a bunch on cable.

BestOne --- 8 years ago -

I've heard of it but it really isn't very good. It's rated 3 stars out of 5 and here is what one national reviewer said:

"No protection against malicious or phishing URLs. Very little accuracy data from independent antivirus labs. Scan detected few malware samples. Misleading claims in online documentation."

It was a maliciuos URL that got the person hacked above.

In my opinion there are a lot better programs out there.

LOL

Your knowledge of computers is amazing bestie. I give you a 4 out of 5 star in giving unfounded advice.

LOL

No one can get into my dialup modem.

You gotta know the sequence of the "beeps" and "boops" to do it.

Fuzz and outerlimits/JW often claim to know KU'ers ip addresses.

Well there "Boo", people on here have stolen IP addressed when they were public. I'm sure you remember that?? Just think back to what SN you were then.....maybe they remember. LOL

them --- 8 years ago -

Fuzz and outer limits/JW keeps track of that for me as well...

I called Facebook because there were 2 charges from them on my bank statement- the bank gave me their phone number, and it turned out the charges came from Nigeria! Needless to say, I cancelled my card, and the bank's refusing several charges-

You are right. It is the gateway that has the password.

BTW...Facebook doesn't have an IT department. It goes to a third party. Facebook does not ever recommend any companies to work on your computer.

*JR* --- 8 years ago -

You got scammed! Facebook doesn't have a customer phone number! If you google "Facebook customer service" a FAKE number comes up. When you call it, you get the scammers. I just heard about this on the radio.

AwesomeTattooedDragon --- 8 years ago -

funny that my bank gave me that number.

Zapper009 --- 8 years ago -

There you go....

CavemanBarney --- 8 years ago -

Go here to see what facebook says.

SagaciousSighFiGurl (Mod) --- 8 years ago -

Some people have their credit cards linked to their FB account. Whoever Tat talked to were the contacts to the charges thru FB. I don't doubt they don't have customer service reps but this was a financial transaction thru FB. They DO have numbers for that.

@caveman, is that a fake page?? Lmao

CavemanBarney --- 8 years ago -

If you are logged into facebook, and you click on any item that asks you to log in to to FB see a video, game, etc. then it is a scam. Get out of it.
