Wanted to give everyone a warning of Neighbors Emergency centers. After being seen for a broken wrist that consisted of X-Rays, pain medication and setting of my wrist, I received a bill for $10,767!!!!! That is more than 3 times what I had to pay for my surgeon, anesthesiologist, and an overnight stay at a top orthopedic hospital in the Medical Center! Not sure what recourse I have...if any. This IS Highway ROBBERY!

Your problem is with youre insurance company not Neighbors! Learn yourself yhow the system works.

Free standing ER's are more like boutique clinics than an actual ER. They are not held to the same billing practices as a hospital would be.

Buyer beware.

Butterbean --- 8 years ago -

If you talk to their billing department, you'll get a whopping discount for immediate payment.

That was my experience. It says emergency room. No insurance coverage. There for emergencies.Other urgent care places do a pretty good job.

Other hospital systems also operate local neighborhood clinics and emergency rooms and are covered by insurance. Check them out.

I have heard enough about these places, that I will never darken their doors. Go to the hospital if it really is an emergency, if not wait and go to the doctor in the morning.

Will do GrandParentKingwood! Thank you!

Four Pinocchios --- 8 years ago -

Amarie - call them. It has been my experience that they send my insurance company exorbitant bills - throwing massive charges against the wall and seeing what will stick - and once my insurance company settles, they write-off the rest.

I have never had to pay anything above the original co-pay.

I like Neighbors.

amarie --- 8 years ago -

Yes, I have learned a HUGE lesson from this! All I could think of at the time of my emergency was to stop the excruciating pain. I now wish I would have done my homework about these places before I needed one. All I had heard about regular hospitals was how long it takes to get seen.

amarie --- 8 years ago -

Thanks Butterbean! I will try that!

amarie --- 8 years ago -

Thanks Four Pinocchios, I will give them a call. I wish my insurance plan had a co-pay for Emergency room visits. But, it does not.

Urgent care centers, in my experience, for insurance purposes, are treated similar to a primary care facility. "Emergency Care Centers"(nothospitals), receive less coverage by insurance companies.

TinktheSprite --- 8 years ago -

^That. Stick to Urgent Care facilities (NextCare). They patch you up, take care of pain etc., temporarily, and send you immediately to your own dictor. The others are full service Minor Emergency Hospitals.

Sharticus --- 8 years ago -

I wish my insurance plan had a co-pay for Emergency room visits. But, it does not.

The difference between "UrgiCares" and these emergency centers, is these emergency centers are considered a true blue hospital emergency room with a BOARD CERTIFIED ER doc. Is it a scam? Maybe. It feeds off of people not doing their research when they barge in to their facility. But, by definition of what they offer, you are basically an admitted ER patient. No different than a hospital. Here's a clue. If they put a bracelet on you, you are paying hospital prices.

Dorothy Parker --- 8 years ago -

Not all freestanding ER's have board certified docs. FYI. They may have a few, but that doesn't mean all. And most urgent care centers have NP's and PA's seeing the patients, not docs.

Ive never had a problem with Neighbors. Beats going to the hospital and waiting for a long time. Plus they bill your insurance as "in network"
