Day 8. Its still driving me NUTS!!!

Tennismom111 --- 7 years ago -

i have had it so many times and going to doctor does not really help me. The best thing is Calamine from Walgreens. It worked better than any of my prescriptions. The pink version works better than the gel version of Calamine. Try not to touch infected area because it spreads to others areas. Trust me. Hope you feel better soon.

Thanks. I sprang for the $46 Zanfel. It works! Technu works to but to a lesser degree but it's way cheaper, $12. And they both feels good. I am trying a holistic remedy Oral Ivy, too. So far, it has helped with the itching. It has 70% alcohol so that doesn't hurt either! LOL I was getting bumble-brained on too much benadryl! Looks like I am going to go for the Calamine next.

I agree with the calamine lotion. It's all you can do. I'm really allergic to it so I try not to go anywhere I can get it.

Wash affected area with vinegar. Make a paste of baking soda and water and apply. Also make sure any area you touched after contact with poison ivy is cleaned or you'll just reinfect yourself.

It's systemic. I have areas where poison ivy should has never gone, for one inside my nose and beneath my panty line. I continue with the holistic drops and started using the High Frequency Violet Light on it. This itching is insane. The good news is the lesions that showed up last Friday/Saturday are healing. Bad news is I have new lesions. I never was sensitive to PI. It came on me like a lion.

Yikes! I would try some coconut oil. It's antibacterial and soothing. Hard to believe something so natural can cause so much annoyance!

TinktheSprite --- 7 years ago -

The idea is to keep the poison draining from the blisters and get them to dry out. Some of my wounds are peeling really good and the redness on the skin is lessening. I think any oil or cream would prohibit the drying process. As far as I know, there is not infection or bacteria on the lesions. Well, maybe on one, or two are festering up from my scratching them. But in my nose? Ongoing tenderness on each side of my nostrils at the septum. OW! I hate this stuff!!

What a pain! I just read that 85% are susceptible to poison ivy and only 15% are not, so weird.

How about an oatmeal bath to soothe your skin?

TinktheSprite --- 7 years ago -

It was nice being in that 15% until now.

So sorry to hear of this. Where in the world did you come up on contact with poison ivy?

Maybe a Benedryl will help???

TinktheSprite --- 7 years ago -

We don't have poison Ivy in our yard, I have made sure of that over the years. What little I found I pulled out without issues. I was helping my neighbor who is highly allergic. I pulled all the vines off her fence. 6 days later, SIX DAYS, the lesions showed up. I didn't even think, "Poison Ivy" right away since it had been so long. But that's what it is. I need prednisone but I hate that stuff even more than the rash. So I will ride it out. I used Benedray from the start. It puts my into a funk, messes with my brain. But it did stop the itching at night.
