I just want to see what you guys' opinion on the legalization of marijuana. I think this could be an interesting discussion if people stay civil about it. What is everyone's opinion on the legalization of marijuana?

JohnLynch --- 11 years ago -

bad idea...

RedMulch --- 11 years ago -

are you a legislator? or a canidate to be one?

JAMS --- 11 years ago -

It's been debated a billion times here...

But I'm all for it.

Relative Views --- 11 years ago -

I don't keep up with KU, so I've never seen a thread about it. I'm not a legislator. I just think it'd be interesting to have a discussion about it, as it's a topic I feel passionately about.

JAMS --- 11 years ago -

Until Texas steps into the 21st century, looks like I'll be visiting my SIL in Denver a lot.

KingOfSomewhereHot --- 11 years ago -

Well if JL is against it, it MUST be a good idea!

(yeah ... I think it should be legal, even though I won't partake.)

Relative Views --- 11 years ago -

Hahaha JAMS, I feel ya. I lived in Denver before moving to Houston. Considering moving back there. With the new development about letting the terminally ill use experimental drugs, I'm agreeing more and more with the Coloradan legislation. I'd love to live in Colorado. I don't see the problem in legalization of marijuana. In fact I see more benefits than harm. I think its backwards that even medical cannabis is illegal in Texas.

RedMulch --- 11 years ago -

I'll stick with my bourbon, but i am not against it.

AwesomeTattooedDragon --- 11 years ago -

definitely think it should be legalized- I personally don't like it, but it's not as bad as alcohol for you, and no one shoots up their family when they're stoned-

TheCatLover --- 11 years ago -

This will always be a hot topic until people get educated about it. Education is a wonderful thing but most people feel they already have all the smarts they need and are unwilling to learn more. All the scare tactics used by our government will linger in our minds even after it's legal everywhere. But someday we will look back and laugh at how stupid we where being so worried about the dangers of something that actually has huge benefits. But just like with everything else there are always those that use it wrong and make it look bad. If we lined up all the people that are addicted to caffeine or chocolate (me included) and then lined up those addicted to marijuana it would be a no brainier.

TheCatLover --- 11 years ago -

This is a YouTube video about a little girl that uses Cannabis Oil. This was the video that changed how I felt and opened my eyes to the benefits of Cannabis. I urge all those that are against it to watch it and then tell me what you think.

This video might change your mind

Posta-Puleeze. This tired old topic?

DVaz --- 11 years ago -

Legalize all drugs for personal use. It's my body, my house, and my life. Government should stay out of my personal business.

Now if a parent's drug use is affecting the life of a pre-teen, CPS step in.

snowprincess --- 11 years ago -

I don't think legalizing it matters. If you are a pothead you don't care if it is legal or not.

Look at drunk drivers- do they care that it is illegal?

Instead of tying up the courts with trivial drug charges start locking up the DUI first offenders for 25 years; forever if they hurt someone.

I fully support your right to damage your body, house, and life. As long as you don't drive after you drug yourself.

God said not to smoke pot?

DVaz --- 11 years ago -

Thanks snowprincess. Your view on the subject is what freedom is about. If it's your body nobody has any right to tell you what you can or can't do to it. So long as you are not harming or risking harm to others.

Religious fanatics don't want drugs around because they allow people to freely think, imagine, and explore. Religions lose their mind control brainwashing of the masses when drugs are experimented with.

snowprincess --- 11 years ago -

If you need drugs to "help" your mind you have a pretty weak one to begin with!

AwesomeTattooedDragon --- 11 years ago -

God said "do not smoke pot" in the N-NIV-

DVaz --- 11 years ago -

"If you need drugs to "help" your mind you have a pretty weak one to begin with!"

Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, The Beatles. Yeah what a bunch of morons those guys were/are.

I went to Denver about 3 weeks ago and it was a liberating experience to know that i was not committing a crime. It is shameful that here in 2014 that you can be arrested(cops choice that is) car towed, jailed, and put on probation for up to 2year for nothing more than a roach! Pot crimes generate revenue and employ many with each person that is put on probation. The old way of thinking is on its way out.... TEXAS what will happen when all surrounding states are decriminalized! Until then Texas i will continue to visit Colorado and give them my money that i work for everyday! O and just an FYI Frontier airlines has tickets to Colorado for about $217 round trip and Air BnB place for as low as $55 a night(viva revolution)

witchywoman --- 11 years ago -

God said not to smoke pot??

God invented it.

Pot crimes generate revenue and employ many, you said. Very true however legalized marijuana generates far more revenue and creates many more jobs.

bren4rmoh --- 11 years ago -

that is true witchywoman but the difference is one creates political jobs

JohnLynch --- 11 years ago -

God invented it.

nope...God didn't "invent" it...God created the plant that they use in a way He did not intend for it to be used...

God created poison ivy...but that doesn't mean you should roll around in it...

god also created mushrooms...some of them will kill you...should we eat those just because He created them?

your logic is shallow...

Red Heifer --- 11 years ago -

legalize it, control it, tax it. decriminalize it.

still have to figure out standards and proof for DUI--it is not as easy as a breathalyzer or a blood test, not yet anyway.

I'm not a big fan of impairment of any kind, but it is too big a recreational drug to ignore, and less of a problem than alcohol.

Agreed for the most part.

Anyone who needs ANYTHING in order to "have fun" is missing out on life in my opinion.

Life itself is fun. Being under the influence of anything is being out of control of your life and is a sign of weakness.

But if people choose to be weak, then we should choose to tax them a ton.

bren4rmoh --- 11 years ago -

But if people choose to be weak, then we should choose to tax them a ton.?
So just where would this taxation stop perfection....because the weak americans love sugar and caffeine! Many things can be enjoyed in moderation.

Polly Ester --- 11 years ago -

But if people choose to be weak, then we should choose to tax them a ton.

It is only weak if you have an obsession with something and can't control yourself. If I enjoy a glass of wine now and then, or a piece of cheesecake, or a little bowl of pot, it doesn't make me weak.

Some of you have this idea that people smoke until they are wasted or something. The people I know who enjoy the herb are no different than someone who likes a good cigar or martini. I know some people that use it to help with migraines and arthritis.

I agree that regulation and taxation is the future. Right now Denver and Seattle are a curiosity and are taking advantage of their increased tourism. I think in a few years they will not be unique and there will be regulated dispensaries all over the county. If it were up to cities and not states, I am sure it would already be legal in Austin.

The Sicilian --- 11 years ago -

I think it should be legalized, at the very least for medical use.
I'm willing to bet it would have been safer on my body than all of the morphine, Opana and hydrocodone the doctors had me on for a few years.

bren4rmoh --- 11 years ago -

Sicilian that has been part of the resistance for legalization. ..the pharmaceutical companies will loose out on billions...and in my opinion have gave millions to politicians to slow the movement

DVaz --- 11 years ago -

"So you are a follower. Explains a lot?"

I abhor globalist slime such as Bill Gates and cannot stand hippies like Jobs.

The Beatles, on the other hand I love their music.

Follower my a**. I just like to have fun with mind altering drugs, chemicals, and natural plants on occasion. I actually read studies and personal experiences of recreational drug users before I judge a substance. You seem to lump all drugs together just because the AmeriKan government says they are bad for you - and I'm the "follower???" Look in the mirror.

Not KU --- 11 years ago -

nope...God didn't "invent" it...God created the plant that they use in a way He did not intend for it to be used...

Explain how it was intended to be used using the bible. State what book, verse. Quote if you can the stated intent of the cannabis plant. I have my beliefs but I dont have any stated verses I can point to. I don't believe you do either.

JohnLynch --- 11 years ago -

Quote if you can the stated intent of the cannabis plant.

i can quote what the Bible said about what NOT to do with it...the Bible says to remain sober and alert...

1 Corinthians 15:34...1 Thessalonians 5:4-8...2 Timothy 4:5...1 Peter 1:13, 4:7, 5:8...

Weed was banned for a few reasons and none were for the good of America or your health & well being. Here are two major ones.

1) Hemp paper was a major threat to the logging industry and billionaire William Randolf Hearst was heavily invested in it.

2) Racism against black and Hispanic Americans. The thought of your pure white daughter screwing a black or Mexican man was fueled by some messed up propaganda back in the 1930's.

Do some research if you don't believe me.
