What are the newest trends in kitchen paint color? I have always had yellow and love it, but time to redo and I'm thinking it would be fun to totally change colors. I've seen lots of red walls, green walls and although they are pretty too, I'm looking for something new. Anyone have any new ideas? My breakfast room w/large window is connected. Wood cabinets, white countertops so pretty
much open to most colors.

Just an idea but if you go ask the folks at Sherwin Williams they will tell you what the builders are using in the area. There are Model Homes in Eagle Springs you can go look at and that helps to see the trend. Good luck with your color choice.

I'd like to know this one too :). I'm looking at a light aqua/turquoise color with but I'm so used to doing neutrals that I'm a little bit afraid to go out on a limb, lol!

What colors are in the rest of your home?

Cookin' Queen --- 11 years ago -

I agree with Humble, go see some model homes. I ave watched two tutor beige and brown homes painted again the same color. After the new paint they still looked tired and outdated. Homes that have been painted with the new spice and chocolate colors look brand new.

Thanks for the reminder to go look at model homes. They are always a good place to jump start ideas. Kingwoodgraniteguy recommended a color for my master bath and it looks great. He says a lot of new homes are using this throughout. It is Valspar and called Churchill Hotel Wheat. Strange name but really great neutral on the walls and pops with white molding/trim.
Rhonda-the colors in my den which is off of the kitchen are warm....greens/browns/reds/yellows....

allycat~I have a friend who went with a soft aqua in all of her house! It is really pretty and surprisingly goes with all colors. I think the key is "soft" :)

I love the blues, and the beachy colors. But have been told by more than one realtor it is the kiss of death color for resale. LOL. So, do what you like but if you ever want to sell, you might have to repaint. It's not that blue is ugly, it's just that most people's furniture and stuff don't match.

I love this kitchen. It has green walls which I think really balances the lighter colors.

What is your style? I think the style of your home and your personal taste drives your colors. I tend to be traditional and I like antiques so colors that would look good in my setting might not work for someone with more contemporary style.

june --- 11 years ago -

JMHO-pretty pic! My style is french country and I also have/love antiques. I have a beautiful set of red transferware antique plates that I could use on the walls if I go that direction. I'm seeing a lot of creamy white walls in the magazines now. I have to leave my wood cabinets but could paint the wood island an accent color??

Very pretty kitchen!!

I really want a red kitchen but I can't find the right red and a little chicken to do it. It will be damn dramatic!

Paint is cheap and it is easy to do over if your aren't happy. I have been looking at homes to buy and believe me the houses that aren't neutral are a big turn off. If you are planning on living there for a while I'd paint it the way I wanted.

allycat --- 11 years ago -

June thanks for that color name, I'm gonna check it out. We are hoping this is our last house especially since we are building and don't want to move again ever :)! JMHO I love that pic. I am actually thinking that I will do white cabinets with the glaze on top so they look more cream and dark hardwoods but then the island I think we'll stain. Then we will have a banquette and I'm thinking about having the kitchen table I have now refinished and either stain the top and paint the legs the light aqua and sand it down or do a gray wash on the top with aqua. I really like the French country look also. I'm so nervous about picking everything out and making sure it all goes together. Eeekkkk!

Your ideas sound great allycat. Be sure and post a pic for us when you do this.

DO
IT!!!

8675309~are your cabinets wood or painted? I've been searching reds as well and have come to the conclusion that reds w/white cabinets make a kitchen cheerful. Red w/wood cabinets more rich, dramatic.

The problem with the outside of the houses is the HOA. My husband paints houses and some people want a nice pretty color but if the HOA doesn't approve it then you have to repaint to what is on their approval list for the subdivision. Sadly, you must get HOA approval for somethings even though you own your own house. :(

Color is a very personal choice. The important thing is to pick colors that you like and have the affect that you wish to achieve. Some color combinations work because they contrast - some because they complement. Have you checked out "The Color Scheme Bible"? In its pages, you can get ideas about color combinations that work. Also, don't forget to consider the textures in the space. Are you looking for a soft, cozy, comfy feel? - a bright, cheerful feel? - a feel that is all business?
