Noticed a neighbor using a lawnmower - to sever the exposed roots of a mature tree in his yard.

Then, this week, he had a landscaping company take it down once it had died.

Is what he did legal???

AwesomeTattooedDragon --- 10 years ago -

it's probably legal, but not very moral.:=(

satsuma --- 10 years ago -

it's probably legal, but not very moral.:=(?

yep.

But TECHNICALLY, most of the HOA's require you to get permission to remove a tree, and you are required to replace that tree with another tree.

I doubt he complied with the by-laws.

AwesomeTattooedDragon --- 10 years ago -

I hope he gets slapped with a fine, or whatever the HOA does-

April --- 10 years ago -

Why is getting rid of a tree in your yard immoral? I want to widen our drive and there is a tree there. I see no moral reason I should not remove it. I also have planted several trees since I bought my home here.

RedMulch --- 10 years ago -

HOA's are pretty much ignored these days in the older villages. Unless you paint your house orange.

Gigix4 --- 10 years ago -

LOL - well my neighbor got nailed last month because she had "roof residue" on that little metal piece they put down between the roof and the face board.
Now, that's being picky.

Yet we have another neighbor that has a wild vine growing along the top of her garage door. She may have also gotten a letter but she hasn't done a darn thing about it.

The Day I Tried to Live --- 10 years ago -

I got a letter from the HOA that said I needed to clean my mailbox post.

AwesomeTattooedDragon --- 10 years ago -

lol!

Gigix4 --- 10 years ago -

said I needed to clean my mailbox post.

LMAO! As if our own post office sets such a nice example for landscaping!

satsuma --- 10 years ago -

I got a letter from the HOA that said I needed to clean my mailbox post.?

I'm pretty sure that was a euphemism.

Why is getting rid of a tree in your yard immoral?

April, "you ignorant slut".
;)

you know that's an SNL reference right?

Mayberry --- 10 years ago -

Ahhhh, the country life. So glad to be away from the neighborhood antics

Elsa --- 10 years ago -

Gigix4...do you know that I got a letter from the HOA for a plant (read: weed) growing in a gutter (less than 3" tall) back when I lived near you? Yet they let that house stay that strange blue color for YEARS. Go figure.

You are supposed to get permission to cut a tree down but they can not make you replace the tree with another one.

Also, it is not immoral to cut a tree down.

Gigix4 --- 10 years ago -

LOL - Yeah ... the one house on the street behind me (Parkdale) was 3 different shades of blue and a couple of shades of brown. I stayed on the HOA about it for about 18 months. The couple that owns it are MIA but they finally painted it a horrible shade of blue - they got another threatening letter that the color was not approved and had to have it re-painted. Grey this time.

I killed 5 of them and very proud to do so. Just like pools trees are a liability a future problem. Seems to me what people "think" enhances a property I see it differently. Why don't you complainers plant a tree on your property to offset the "immoral" actions of others. Plant it 3 feet next to your bedroom window so you can see it grow.

TinktheSprite --- 10 years ago -

I love my trees. They are work when they drop their leaves in the fall, but the shade they provide over the house is priceless. Then in the winter without their leaves, the sun keeps the house warm. Anyone who discounts the worth of *properly planted trees* hasn't thought about how they can benefit homeowners.

mutton --- 10 years ago -

Properly planted us the key!

mutton --- 10 years ago -

Is the key, sorry

AwesomeTattooedDragon --- 10 years ago -

we lost a million trees last year- let's just cut all the rest down-

Our future new neighbors around the corner cut down no less than 20 very mature, very large trees in their back and front yard. Back yard I can understand (as I believe they are putting in a pool), but the front yard was a surprise. The house definitely stands out in the 25+ year old neighborhood that is filled with 40'+ trees. so sad.

Yes, Properly planted trees are wonderful. I agree! I love my trees. I have at least 30 of them on my lot right here in Kingwood. I would not feel a moral obligation to plant a tree if we decided to have one cut down. If the tree is too close to the foundation of my home it needs to go. Also, if we decide to add on to this home and have to cut down trees we will not replace those trees unless it would be a benefit to the well being of this home.

I have to say I would be very upset if someone came along and cut down all the trees in their yard. My neighbor across the street did that a few years ago. He is afraid a tree will fall on his house if there is a hurricane. I think that's what we have insurance for. I bet his electric bill is very high now. His yard looks hideous.

He considered it his yard so he could do with it as he wants.

No different than abortion.

AwesomeTattooedDragon --- 10 years ago -

whut?

Perfection --- 10 years ago -

If people can kill other humans and call it abortion to make it legal, just call killing trees abortion to make it legal for zapper007 who asked if it was legal.

AwesomeTattooedDragon --- 10 years ago -

if a tree is going to tear up your foundation with it's roots, it has to go- but for aesthetic reasons, it stinks-not the best analogy, P.

IF a child is going to grow up to be a killer then it should be okay to kill it?

It's ridiculous is what it is. I'm sure we all cut trees down to build our houses at one point. Was that immoral??

FANCY PANTS --- 10 years ago -

No, it was not immoral. But, I do think it is sad when these new neighborhoods come in and clear cut the land and don't leave a single tree. The way they do it now is different then how it was done 30+ years ago. Most of the trees on my lot were her long before the house was built.

Gigix4 --- 10 years ago -

I see nothing immoral about cutting down a Texas Sweet Gum tree! They are a nuisance and aren't that beneficial for shade - they seem to be constantly losing dead limbs along with those dang sweet gum balls!
