I don't care how wonderful a doctor he is. He should be charged as an accomplice. It was negligent of him to allow someone he knew had committed fraud in the past to have access to patient financial information. He knowingly exposed his patients to risk.

A business owner has the responsibility to protect the private information of his or her customers. If they fail to do that, they can and should be held liable.

Lose your purse or wallet or get pick-pocketed ... you cancel your credit/debit cards, notify your bank of the lost checks and you're covered. Anything spent on the cards is reimbursed. The cash is gone.

Plus, most Dr.s and dentists now require you to have a payment method on file that can be charged if you fail to pay any outstanding balance after a certain amount of time. Plus, they always have to have your social security number on file.

It is their responsibility to protect that information.

I refuse to give them my SSN and have no issues. If they demand it, I demand they explain what they are using it for and if they indicate it is just for collecting $, I offer to pay for my visit on the spot an indicate I will be back to get my refund/overpayment back from them as soon as I get the EOB from insurance. 

I always pay in cash for restaurants or any place I can not physically see my card being handled.

Actually joe, historically speaking, it's democrats and progressives who espouse a system whereby the government takes care of and provides for them, therefore rendering personal accountability secondary. 

He may be a good dr but it is terrible that he allowed her to put others at risk. he should have called the police after the first incident. He put the financial and personal security of his patients at risk and choose to have someone with criminal intentions working in his office where personal information and finances are handled.

I would be livid. Who knows if there are other victims of her fraud. She is pretty stupid to be forging checks to her daycare and think she wouldn't get caught. I don't give a crap about her bad divorce either. If he feels that sorry for her then he should have offered to pay her daycare instead of letting one of his patients unknowingly pay it.

She works in a Drs office..what else would she resort too? Stealing medicine and selling it? Selling confidential information? I can almost guareentee you that this lady was probably not the only victim..many people do not look over their bank statements carefully.

One lesson from this,I guess, is to not pay any attention when someone tells you not to worry about filling out the check..they have a stamp. Just the fact that she was that brazen and added another $100 to the amount tells me this was not her first rodeo.

Cash isn't a good solution. It is just as easy to lose it or get it taken from you and when it does there is no recovery. I use a credit card card and have a fraud limit on it. I check my statements. I have a RFID blocking wallet. Nothing is full proof but at least I know I will get my money back if someone tries to steal from me, with cash I am SOL.

Many businesses never report cases of fraud or embezzlement by employees. It's considered an "embarrassment".

Since this case appears initially to be a small amount and perhaps under dire circumstances, I'm not getting the pitchforks out.

For your info and I will not ever repeat this again... I was hospitalized, lost down to 94 lbs (5'6' woman) had a stomach tumor and severe ulcers. I have now after treatment being doing quite well (oh thanks so much for asking) but when I was at the extreme low of being ill I was having heart issues from dehydration and malnutrition. Not to mention the stress of the people here that just constantly hound me for no reason what so ever.
