Judicial defiance in Alabama: Same-sex marriages begin, but most counties refuse.

MOBILE, Ala. ? On the day that same-sex unions became legal in Alabama, local officials in dozens of counties on Monday defied a federal judge?s decision and refused to issue marriage licenses to gay couples, casting the state into judicial chaos.

Do you applaud California when they stand up for states rights?

Emperor of Kingwood --- 10 years ago -

Yes I do....

WatchOut --- 10 years ago -

Emperor is feeling butt hurt over homosexuality. Pun intended.

Dr Aborto --- 10 years ago -

Yeah. Remember when Alabama Gov. Wallace stood up for state rights and actually blocked the university entrance trying to keep 2 black students from enrolling. Real "hero" on the wrong side of history.

WatchOut --- 10 years ago -

Two threads started at the same time equates to butt hurt.

Emperor of Kingwood --- 10 years ago -

Yeah. Remember when Alabama Gov. Wallace stood up for state rights and actually blocked the university entrance trying to keep 2 black students from enrolling. Real "hero" on the wrong side of history.

That act clearly violated the Brown vs The board of Education Decision of 1954. Wallace should have known that.

voice of reason --- 10 years ago -

how's that new i.d. working out for you, w.p.? lol

PreciousAngel --- 10 years ago -

Same-sex marriages begin, but most counties refuse.

Why does this bother you so much? It's a no brainer. If you're not for gay marriage, don't marry a gay person.

Perhaps you should consider therapy.

jacobson --- 10 years ago -

Why does this bother you so much?

Because it's not a marriage.

WatchOut --- 10 years ago -

If jacobson says it it must be true.

jacobson --- 10 years ago -

If jacobson says it it must be true.

Actually it's true because it's what God said.

RiteWingKing --- 10 years ago -

God also states that slaves should obey their masters.

Ephesians 6:5-9New International Version (NIV)

5 Slaves, obey your earthly masters with respect and fear, and with sincerity of heart, just as you would obey Christ. 6 Obey them not only to win their favor when their eye is on you, but as slaves of Christ, doing the will of God from your heart. 7 Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not people, 8 because you know that the Lord will reward each one for whatever good they do, whether they are slave or free.

AMDG --- 10 years ago -

Why does this have to called marriage, and which side of the debate wants that.

Reason I ask.

I don't really care what the state says, to me, they do not have the authority to declare a same sex union a marriage.

They do however have the right to establish a civil contract to ensure same sex couples have equal civil rights under the law. I have no problem with that at all.

Just seems the word "marriage" is a very loaded word in this discussion.

Would there be less debate and emotion if it was not part of the discussion??

james osterberg --- 10 years ago -

They do however have the right to establish a civil contract to ensure same sex couples have equal civil rights under the law. I have no problem with that at all.

Maybe, but not equal contractual and family law rights, so why not? Can you answer that?

Joe Blow --- 10 years ago -

God also states that slaves should obey their masters.

See this John Jacob Lynch? LMFAO Your God is all for 50 Shades of Grey, maybe 150.

AMDG --- 10 years ago -

Jim o. Sorry not sure I understand the question

jacobson --- 10 years ago -

God also states that slaves should obey their masters.

Actually, you are incorrect. God said servants, not slaves. You really should quit using a liberal, bad translation.

jacobson --- 10 years ago -

Just seems the word "marriage" is a very loaded word in this discussion.

If they want to be in a relationship with, that's their problem, just don't use a definition that doesn't apply.

RiteWingKing --- 10 years ago -

You really should quit using a liberal, bad translation.

There are many translations that refer to slaves. More so than servant. Some use Bondservants (New King James Version).

Catholic Version uses Slaves. You are trying to tell me Catholics are liberal.

Looks to me that God meant slaves.

RiteWingKing --- 10 years ago -

If they want to be in a relationship with, that's their problem, just don't use a definition that doesn't apply.

Jacobson can you tell me what language the original text was written in?

SoupIsGoodFood --- 10 years ago -

Emperor is feeling butt hurt over homosexuality. Pun intended.

Lather. Rinse. Repeat.

Red Heifer --- 10 years ago -

I have no problem with the government recognizing no marriages. Would that make you happier? Then, anyone who wanted to call themselves married could call themselves married. Let's leave the government out of this.

RiteWingKing --- 10 years ago -

Let's leave the government out of this.

I agree. Maybe civil union.

Emperor of Kingwood --- 10 years ago -

The government has no business, in the business, of licensing marriage.

Select one person at a time in which you would like having the rights of spouse and register them as your spouse.

If you want to get married, see your clergyman.

jacobson --- 10 years ago -

There are many translations that refer to slaves.

And they're ALL liberal translations.

Looks to me that God meant slaves

And you would still be incorrect.

Then, anyone who wanted to call themselves married could call themselves married.

But not everyone would fit the definition of marriage so your comment has no merit.

Leather --- 10 years ago -

Jake Lynch always gets my gaydar hopping. He's hot.

Butterbean --- 10 years ago -

Today:

The morning after a federal court ruled that the local probate judge in Mobile County could not deny marriage licenses to same-sex couples, probate judges around the state talked to their lawyers and submitted to what one judge called ?the inevitable.? By midday, at least 50 of Alabama?s 67 counties had decided to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples, according to a tally by Freedom to Marry, a gay rights group.

Wayta go Alabama!

jacobson --- 10 years ago -

I really feel sorry for supporters when they kneel before God.

Butterbean --- 10 years ago -

I really feel sorry for supporters when they kneel before God.

Looks like you may have chilled out a bit, Jake. Good for you.

I'll have no problem kneeling before God. He and I are good friends. He talks to me routinely.

Nightshade --- 10 years ago -

And they're ALL liberal translations.

This is funny.

You're funny.

smartypants --- 10 years ago -

Apparently Alabama is a state that has more peckerwoods than Texas.

Nightshade --- 10 years ago -

LOL Smarty!

jacobson --- 10 years ago -

I'll have no problem kneeling before God. He and I are good friends. He talks to me routinely.

Here's God's response:

"Can two walk together, except they be agreed?"

Your comments appear to not agree with God and His Word.

Butterbean --- 10 years ago -

Your comments appear to not agree with God and His Word.

We do agree, Jake. I think He loves me and He tells me that He does.

Commoner Sense --- 10 years ago -

So, separate but equal?

Wicked --- 10 years ago -

Jacobson, you are as fundamentalist as they come. You interpret every word of the bible as if it was written right into our constitution and that, to you, should be the law of the land for all of us. Because of the way you interpret your bible, you become as scary to me as any islamic fundamentalist. The bible cites versus that are detrimental to human beings. It encourages violence, slavery, killings, burnings, etc. How do I know that you won't do these things because the bible tells you it is ok? I just hope you are not a teacher, or a person who works with youth. I don't want you near my children. You have some serious issues. Your bible does not apply to all of us because there are people out there, like me who do not own a bible, don't read it, don't care to. I don't believe in magic and I don't pray to your sky daddy. I don't need that. I am ok with who I am. I have morals and I don't need that book or that belief to keep from killing my neighbor or husband. I find you to be extreme on a level that is unpredictable and certainly unhealthy. You are the guy that we will all be reading about in the paper or the internet, the one who finally snapped and killed his family because he heard God tell him to do so. I suggest a small dose of Zyprexa may be all you need to straighten you out and help you focus on reality. Please see someone...ASAP.

jacobson --- 10 years ago -

So, separate but equal??

LOL, they are already separate by definition.

AMDG --- 10 years ago -

So, separate but equal?
