I'm not a big fan of Cruz, but he is right about the core mission.

We should be establishing a permanent moon base instead of messing with Earth sciences. Plenty of other organizations and government entities are already involved in that sphere.

Ted Cruz Looks Foolish After NASA Chief Has to Explain Basic Science During Hearing

Nah, it's the NASA chief that looks foolish, almost as foolish as the "How Science Works" part of your title.

Prolix Raconteur --- 3 years ago -

Judas talking about showing respect. That's rich.

SoupIsGoodFood --- 3 years ago -

Beyond rich.

Prolix Raconteur --- 3 years ago -

Wrong again. I have no issue with homosexuality or gay marriage. It's not for me, but to each his/her own.

SoupIsGoodFood --- 3 years ago -

"...In a hundred thousand years, scientists will look at the environmental record and know something remarkable happened in the second half of the second millennium."

Something "remarkable" is always bound to happen. It's been happening here on earth since the dawn of time.

Prolix Raconteur --- 3 years ago -

Sorry Bro. Only one IP address for this guy. Prove otherwise or shut it.

Emperor of Kingwood --- 3 years ago -

Cruz is right, the mission of NASA isn't the phoney global warming.

DVaz --- 3 years ago -

You know in the time of the dinosaurs (reptiles) the climate had to be extremely warm for most to survive. Fossils have been found on every inhabited continent on the planet. So, can someone who actually believes in mankind-caused Global Warming please explain why it was so hot back then? Did dinosaurs emit so much flatulence that it kept Earth warm/hot (roll eyes)?

aragon --- 3 years ago -

NASA also found out that Mars has experienced the same level of warming as Earth, during the same periods of time.

Global warming (in the short/medium term) is caused by solar cycles.

Climate change is real. Man made climate change is doubtful.

wayward1 --- 3 years ago -

Earth made (naturally cyclical) climate change can cause serious affects for us. Why would we NOT want our scientists studying it?

aragon --- 3 years ago -

Why would we NOT want our scientists studying it??

We should be studying it. Bigger threat is an ice age (which might be coming...). The more we know the better off we are.

But NASA should be focused on space exploration, IMO. We have NOAA and others that are already involved in climate change.

Exactly.

They drove Suburbans.

Didn't you know that?

NASA collects the data (with its impressive gadgets) that gets turned into research by groups like NOAA. Understanding a plant or moon's weather and atmospheric conditions are kind of important to explore it. NASA has the convenience of studying this plant's weather to help prepare it. These guys know what they're doing.

aragon --- 3 years ago -

NASA collects the data

I have no issue with that and it is a positive. But that's not what my concern is. NASA has gone beyond collecting data and is conducting and funding research directly.

Collect the data and hand it off to NOAA. No problem with that. Like I said, NASA's role (under this admin) has gone beyond that.

NASA has a dismal budget already (when compared to practically everything else).

I don't want funds being diverted.

I want my moon base, dammit.

NASA started focusing on earth science under the Nixon admin. It's kept it's funding alive. Manned exploration is pricey and not popular in Washington.

How ignorant to ignore the change in carbon levels in the atmosphere since the industrial revolution.

The change is negligible and carbon levels in the atmosphere do not change temperature.

DVaz --- 3 years ago -

Judas, that link is pure liberal nonsense. Producing fancy graphs and bull sh*t "facts" about ancient history is ridiculous. You and your liberal friends seem to know as much about Earth's history as God. After all, you guys were here for the last 300 million years to record temperatures at every major location, right?

jacobson --- 3 years ago -

Your ignorance has no boundries.

LOL, you just proved my point.

jacobson --- 3 years ago -

Anyone who bothers to refute the fact that carbon in the atmosphere has skyrocketed since the industrial revolution isn't even worthy for me to bother to debate.

Show us those "facts". You can't because they don't exist.

SoupIsGoodFood --- 3 years ago -

You global alarmists have been hollering about the end of times because of global warming/change/cooling, etc. for DECADES now.

When are you guys ever going to be right?

aragon --- 3 years ago -

Let's get back to what really matters; my moon base. I want one.

SoupIsGoodFood --- 3 years ago -

FK....... I want you to have your moonbase. I really do.

Will you throw a house warming party?

aragon --- 3 years ago -

Will you throw a house warming party??

Yes!

If you can get there, beverages and snacks are on me.

Butterbean --- 3 years ago -

Why is the potty on the roof?

aragon --- 3 years ago -

Why is the potty on the roof??

It's a MOON base. Where else would the potty go?

Butterbean --- 3 years ago -

LOLOL Fisher. I was just having a little fun.

I'm with you on the moon base. At the same time, I don't believe it will happen in my lifetime. Maybe in yours.

DVaz --- 3 years ago -

Some extreme conspiracy theorists believe the moon is a hologram! No joke. YouTube it.

Butterbean --- 3 years ago -

YouTube it.

I did. Really funny!

Looks like somebody has discovered yet another way to make a buck.
