Somebody told me Cafe du Bois is re opening? Anybody know if that's true?

YourMomsOutside --- 10 years ago -

I hope so. We went to eat lunch there and both signs were down. There was a piece of paper on the door but we kept driving. All I know is that Taco Bell will be back (according to teenager)...LOL

Miss Understanding --- 10 years ago -

Goody! I sure hope so! DH and I went there alot.

Leila --- 10 years ago -

If not, I hope something else nice goes in there. Even a tea room or something like that. Their patio area is very charming.

wayward1 --- 10 years ago -

When restaurants emphatically stress they will reopen, it's time to say your goodbyes.

freebyrdll --- 10 years ago -

Drove by today.... here's your answer:

Is Park Cafe owned by the same people?

freebyrdll --- 10 years ago -

You now have a phone # to call. Wondering is no longer necessary

Texvette --- 10 years ago -

If it's the same owners as Cafe du Bois they will face an "uphill battle" for community support. The manner in which they handled the closure of Cafe du Bois was very unprofessional.

a5013738uu --- 10 years ago -

New Owners!

JHMO --- 10 years ago -

I think the "new owners" is a cover up. Same chef, same menu, same wait staff, and now Tony Austin is the "manager" rather than the owner. He's gonna have some 'splainin to do.

Miss Understanding --- 10 years ago -

No wonder the local mom and pop shops don't succeed! You all ruin them every time! Now your killing them before they even open.

Jepperd --- 10 years ago -

What happened? Im curious.

Lynda I check out Park Cafe thread, then you may understand...many have a reason!

Texvette --- 10 years ago -

Unlike the "shady" way they shutdown, I feel they need to be upfront and open as to what has/will change from the old Cafe du Bois. The menu, pricing, entertainment, etc. look VERY similar to Cafe du Bois. Yet - the dining community was blamed by the previous management for not supporting them. This was after the Amazon coupons many folks purchased were not honored. What is now different that will garner the "re-support" of the dining community. A name change only will not be adequate.

JHMO --- 10 years ago -

The proof is in the pudding.

I am waiting for Cafe Dugirlz to open.

No 'splainin" necessary JHMO.
William Trout was the original owner of Cafe du Bois. He brought in Tony Austin to manage the place and bring it to profitability - with assurances of making him a part owner.

Last Summer, Trout decided to walk away from it and couldn't work anything out with Tony, so he ended up "selling" it to another person who ran it into the ground.

This person ran off Austin, then proceeded to run off the customers. Eventually they couldn't keep the doors open (shocker!).

The landlord found another party to take the space and introduced him to Austin. Together they decided it was worth another go - afterall, it was doing quite well under his management before.

So...now they are opening a new restaurant in the former Cafe du Bois space called Park Cafe. They have a brand new owner, and a management and cook team that was successful at the old restaurant.

According to their emails, They're even bringing back the live music line-up. I'm guessing that by doing everything that worked before and getting rid of everything that didn't (like the previous owners) - there's not much reason it shouldn't succeed once again.

Webster --- 10 years ago -

Texvette,
What was "shady" about how they shutdown?
Why would the new restaurant owe the public any explanation about the circumstances of the old restaurant? While it may be attempting to duplicate that which made Cafe du Bois successful, and attract the same kind of clientele - Park Cafe had nothing to do with Cafe du Bois. It's a whole other restaurant.

As for the dining community being blamed....well, that's the previous (inept) owner talkin there. A poor attempt to deflect the actual reasons. See my previous rant about her in another thread.

Because Texvette should have received an email or text directly to her - well isn't it all about her!

The shakiness was the promotions for gift certificate sales just prior to going out of business. It's just not right to sell hundreds of dollars of gift certificates knowing that you are shutting down before they can be redeemed.

Texvette --- 10 years ago -

I found 2 things unprofessional about the abrupt closing of Cafe du Bois: 1) offering the discount promotions then suddenly deciding not to honor them, and 2) the e-mail that was sent confirming the rumor It was very poorly written and blamed the closure on their customers in spite of them doing advertising, promotions, etc.

Lisam --- 10 years ago -

Webster-I agree it's not ordinary for a new restaurant owner to answer to the previous owners' mishandling of the business but seeing that the chef, manager and menu are consistent with the previous owner's run of the place, I think for "good will" Tony should share a little more about what is going on. there are 1500 reads on this post so there is an obvious interest-is the new owner a secret?

Totally agree.
It isn't right - but then, the previous owner did very little that was "right".....which is why the place went under!

You're not alone.
Again, I implore you to consider the person that these things came from. She did her damage and has moved on (thank God).
Is it any wonder that Cafe du Bois didn't survive with those sorts of shenanigans?

As mentioned earlier - the landlord, along with the new owner are simply interested in a successful venture in this spot. Cafe du Bois was filling a need quite well until the change in ownership last summer when the "new" owner decided to exert their inexperience and ruin it all.

The parts of Cafe du Bois that were responsible for its success - the enormously talented chef, the skilled and attentive management, as well as the menu created by both of them - have all been reassembled with the goal of recreating that success and continuing to answer the call for this sort of establishment in our community.

The owner is no secret. In fact, I believe he was greeting customers last night at their grand opening. Did you go? Does he need to pay any of you a personal visit before you're sufficiently satisfied and "compensated" for the distress of all the drama and speculation, and, of course....the wrong-doings of the previous owner? Give me a break already.

Gee, sorry, didn't mean to get you defensive. CafĂ© Du Bois had been a favorite of mine and I was so disappointed when it closed...finding out that the previous owner caused such turmoil makes me sad. I just want to have happy thoughts about it again.

Texvette --- 10 years ago -

Based on Webster's reaction I'm wondering if he/she us the new owner

Please forgive me if I seem defensive.
It's not defensiveness, it is frustration with the rampant speculation from folks who actually know little to nothing about it, AND all the whining and belly-aching over things that cannot be changed or rectified to their satisfaction.

And speaking of speculation, keep wondering Texvette. I can assure you that I am most certainly NOT the new owner.

I am, as Lisam stated, very sad that Cafe du Bois had to die the death it did, miss the old Cafe du Bois, and hope that this new venture can at least match if not exceed what Cafe du Bois ever was at its best.

I too, just want to have happy thoughts about it all again. At this point, I think it best for people to stop their whining and speculation and just find things out first hand for themselves. Myself...I'm giving it a few weeks to iron out all the new restaurant kinks before I check it out personally.

Texvette --- 10 years ago -

Webster - I am in full agreement with you. I'm wishing the Park Cafe nothing but resounding success. We enjoyed (and patronized) Cafe du Bois; I'd welcome a return to great food, service and a pleasant dining experience.

Um, isn't that the point of the internet?

*Annie* --- 10 years ago -

Will they continue with the wine dinners?
