Vacation reading needed! I need something that's a real page turner. I've been a non fiction person, and I like autobiographies and things. Good mystery would be ok too. It just needs to be GOOD.

What do you suggest?

AwesomeTattooedDragon --- 9 years ago -

Anything by James Lee Burke-

What are you reading??

KU posts and Facebook posts... Pool time later on today.

TruBluTexan --- 9 years ago -

I'm currently reading A Short History of Nearly Everything and am enjoying it.

fuzz81 --- 9 years ago -

A short history of nearly everything is excellent. Have you read freakonomics?

celadon --- 9 years ago -

I just finished "Those Girls" by Chevy Stevens. I read it in 3 days- SO good! Her other books are good too, and I'm not really a mystery/thriller reader either!

a889324uu --- 9 years ago -

It's just textbooks for me these days - Industrial and Organizational Psychology right now.

But my FAVORITE "true crime" book is Blood and Money by Thomas Thompson. I've read it several times.

It's based on the true story of a Houston socialite, Joan Robinson Hill and her doctor husband and oil tycoon father, and her suspicious death.

My first trainer's long time partner was Joan's cousin, and the stories I heard growing up were spectacular.

Seriously, it's a GREAT read!!

Joan Robinson Hill

Their home in River Oaks has been on and off the market for years. It's incredible!!

Butterbean --- 9 years ago -

Just finished Back of Beyond by C.J. Box.

Blood and Money

I read it, loved it.

a889324uu --- 9 years ago -

Well, darn!!

I got nothing else.

Emperor of Kingwood --- 9 years ago -

Here are a couple classics from years gone by, but they are really timeless.

1. The propagation of Electromagnetic waves
2. Standard costing and variances.

Seriously,

1. Silent Victory - Clay Blair
2. The Holy Bible
3. The Federalist Papers
4. October Fury

Dorothy Parker --- 9 years ago -

The Wayward Pines series is really good. I just read those a month ago. Watching the TV show now.

a889324uu --- 9 years ago -

DP, how close is the book and show? I've been watching and love it!

fuzz81 --- 9 years ago -

Emp, the propagation of electromagnetic waves sounds interesting. I'm into SDR (software defined radio) a little bit. I have a bladeRF, basically a RF frontend, FPGA and USB3 SoC that can TX/RX Inphase/quadrature samples

Dang. I just push the button on the remote.

Jepperd --- 9 years ago -

I am currently reading:

Infinite Jest by David Foster Wallace

The End: The Defiance and Destruction of Hitler's Germany 1944-45 by Ian Kershaw

Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel

You can access the first chapter of Go Set A Watchman online.

From a literary and character standpoint, it's quite shocking.
I'll let you read it to figure out how.

I believe early this coming up week will be the book's release date.

LitlJay --- 9 years ago -

Just off the press is Vixen Blade by Camille Boucheron. I call it "housewife porn" and it really isn't my style but I may check it out because the author is a friend that I've known since we were both kids. It sounds interesting enough.

You are way over my head with that, when I took those classes (over 35 years ago) it was all about antenna design and curl formulas.

AwesomeTattooedDragon --- 9 years ago -

Fuzz, you just blew your sexy mysteriousness..

Fuzz, you just blew your sexy mysteriousness

You just confirmed my suspicions, you gals are more interested in rock star bad boy than men of science. Clearly, Fuzz is carrying science prowess into the next generation. You might call us nerds, but you won't call us broke.

KingOfSomewhereHot --- 9 years ago -

Just finished "Stranger in a Strange Land" by Robert Heinlein (again)... a good read, would be a good book to have on the list of required reads in high school.

fuzz81 --- 9 years ago -

LOL ATD. Maybe the real mystery is what I do with this knowledge

Eliza2 --- 9 years ago -

The Walter Longmire Books are good, CJ Box books, Inspector Gamache by Louise Penney, The Goldfinch, James Lee Burke's books, are some good mysteries.
