I used my DH's credit card at Kroger on Northpark and WLH on Sunday. Today while we were both at work someone used it to purchase $94.71 and then tried again to charge $94.70 and Capitol One shut off his card at the same Krogers I used Sunday.

I tried calling and all management would say was that I will have to deal with the bank and if I want footage of the transactions I need to file a police report and let the police handle it.

I could have sworn that someone previously had the same issue with this store. I don't have money to just throw away and now we have to wait for the transactions to go thru from the pending status before we can work on getting the money back. Krogers doesn't even seem to care. I wouldn't be surprised if the cashier didn't have something to do with it.
Also the card is in my DH's possession so I don't know how they were even able to use it unless they made a card or it was manually keyed by the cashier.

Does the card have a chip in it??

AwesomeTattooedDragon --- 9 years ago -

How awful! I'm worried about shopping, there, now-

AwesomeTattooedDragon --- 9 years ago -

It may have been someone behind you in line with a scanning device- that's so creepy!

AwesomeTattooedDragon --- 9 years ago -

Was it used at Krogers both times?

SagaciousSighFiGurl (Mod) --- 9 years ago -

What about the places your DH used the card at? Could it have been one of those maybe? Just wondering if it's a coincidence that it was used at Kroger after you had been there?

I see you think it was a Kroger employee?

Dotti --- 9 years ago -

This card has no chip in it and it was used at the same Kroger I was at on Sunday. We have already contacted the bank but since it's his credit/debit card they have to wait for it not to be pending anymore to refund us. The fraud department called him at about 4 and this happened at 2 so they were onto it. The only place he has used his card lately is McDonald's and the Speedy Stop for gas and Kroger on Sunday.

Gas stations are notorious for being spots card info is stolen from.

Lifeof7 --- 9 years ago -

That krogers is having issues. Loss prevention for the store has been monitoring the store and they think it may be an employee. Wells Fargo said they had several (at least 10) kingwood customers that had theft from their accounts after shopping at that location.

Froggie --- 9 years ago -

Yikes!! That's where I do most of my shopping...I'll be monitoring our bank account closely now! Thanks for the heads up!

Yeah I was going to say- it sounds like an employee- thanks for the heads up. Seems like the could review the security footage and see which employee is present during the transactions

andreweggplant --- 9 years ago -

This not only happens at Kroger. It happened to me at Phoenicia in downtown Houston. Used my card for lunch and by 2:00pm my card was being used in LA. It happened a 2nd time when my card was used to pay for Sirius Radio, someone in GA got a nice computer from HP off that one.

Maybe if more business had to pay like like Target if going to have to pay they would work on getting more secure on their credit/debit card transactions.

I have my receipt from Sunday and according to the store they are doing remodeling and the cameras may have not even been working. There was no one in front of me or behind me at that time because it was right after lunch so my feeling is the cashier does have something to do with it. Capital One is being really great about it but we are still going to file a police report today because this is ridiculous. I could see if it was used some place else but at the same place just seems really off to me.

Gigix4 --- 9 years ago -

Doesn't the receipt have the register ID or maybe even the employee ID on it?
If so, the store should be able to track which employee was at that particular register at that time.
Just a thought ... sorry this happened to you and I would be furious.

I think the stores deliberately try to distance themselves so they have no liability. They know right now the financial institution's fraud department will cover it. In the meantime, the criminals get away with it and find another victim. If they would go after the source then maybe it would at least not reward them for their theft.

I guess I need to get one of those wallets that at least to protect your credit cards that you carry. it won't prevent an employee from skimming your card when you hand it to them though.

It seems it would help if we would use those handheld credit card readers that they use everywhere in Europe it seems. At least then the card stays in your eyesight the entire time and never leaves your table in a restaurant. Too much can happen between the time you hand your card to a wait staff person and they return with it 10 minutes later.

I got one of those several years ago. I hope it is working!

When using any of my credit cards, they never leave my hand. Even at the gas stations, when I finish my transaction, I push the "Cancel" button as soon I get my receipt. I think I read about that somewhere.

Our card info was stolen from McDonald's in town center last year, it is a pain!!

AwesomeTattooedDragon --- 9 years ago -

At least you'll get reimbursed- did you know if it's a business card with others using it, they don't cover it? It happened to me several Yeats ago, and finally Chase got it approved, because the purchases were so bizarre- I was also a preferred customer- it was a lot of money, too! Ugh-

EXCEPT - they do NOT WORK...lol

Tried to use my credit union card at Krogers on Sunday and card was declined. Used another bank card and it accepted. Called my credit union to see why card declined and they said Kroger stores in Kingwwod was having Major fraud issues. They suggested I use my pin whenever I have to use my card in Krogers.

dawnstang --- 9 years ago -

Kingswood kroger is not having major fraud issues. This has to do with the thieves that get a hold of credit information. It has happened to 4 employees of the store. one had not even used her card at the store. And to the comment about loss prevention being involved. Think about what you just wrote. If loss prevention was involved you would not have any idea. This is a problem anywhere you scan a card. Whether they are near you with a hand scanner to pick up your number or put something on a scanner. And to say Kroger management doesn't care is a bold face lie. This is how problems begin. People running their moths without knowing the facts

I tend to believe my bank. If they tell me not to use my card I won't.

It happened to us personally and management didn't give a crap. They also said that they are doing remodeling recently and the cameras may not have even been working so don't tell me they care because they don't. I won't even shop there again. That many people having the same issue when store employees are aware of cameras being down. Sounds a bit fishy to me.

This sounds like something someone who is stealing would say. Just kidding

So many people hearing the same thing from different banks, but we should all not listen to them and believe the guy on the anonymous forum. What reason would we have to make up something about a store we enjoy shopping at and is closest to our home?
