I did not water more than usual this month. Water bill $398.00. No pool and 2 people and 2550 square foot house. Did anyone get a high bill??

Kwood13 --- 8 years ago -

If you go onto the website it will show you when your high usage is. We got a high water bill last year and it was because our sprinklers were running every other day at 4am!!! I didn't realize until I looked at our detailed usage. I went straight to the garage and unplugged my sprinkler system until I had time to figure out how to reprogram it.

SueRDH --- 8 years ago -

Mine doubled, but I accidentally left the hose on all night. I'm actually surprised it wasn't higher since I've been watering the grass and beds more this past month.

Gigix4 --- 8 years ago -

Did anyone get a high bill??

Yep ... sure did but I was expecting it since I've had to do a lot of deep watering in July. Mine was $11 less than yours and was surprised it wasn't higher.

Nature is Free --- 8 years ago -

I've been out of town for the whole month... asked husband if he used more water than usual and he does not use the shower at home as we go to the gym daily. No!! He didn't use more water, on the contrary we don't use much water. Bill was 3 times more than usual!!! I was wondering why???? GRRRRRRR My bill is $18 for months, this time was $68!!!!! GRRRRR :(

RedMulch --- 8 years ago -

Got mine today. It was $76 I am happy.

Gigix4 --- 8 years ago -

It was $76 I am happy.

How often do you water your lawn? LOL

mutton --- 8 years ago -

Am jealous Red!

*LOL* --- 8 years ago -

Red, your whole yard must be full of mulch.

Mine was $410. Next month's will probably be even higher.

BalletMom --- 8 years ago -

ugh... ditto. I am stunned. It can't be right?! Doubled in one month??

FANCY PANTS --- 8 years ago -

Ours tripled. We watered a little but were gone for 10 days during that month. I think they raised their rates. With all the rain we had, I'm sure bills were too low to suit them. I'm gonna have to dig up my old bills.

Is gonna be a race between my water bill and electricity bill for Hot August. I hope it's not a tie!

TinktheSprite --- 8 years ago -

Watering the crunchy grass again. Where's that rain?!

Gigix4 --- 8 years ago -

Where's that rain?!

Think it's coming in tomorrow ... I hope it waits until after noon though. I got some ribs marinating in the fridge today, on the grill tomorrow!

Gigix4 --- 8 years ago -

The hour by hour forecast shows showers starting around 1:00 tomorrow afternoon.

AwesomeTattooedDragon --- 8 years ago -

my bill's high, too, and my yard is still looking sad! Gigi, do your ribs, tonight, and then do a rain dance!!!

Is resodding cheaper than watering? A $400 water bill is a lot!

TinktheSprite --- 8 years ago -

No. Minimum for a small yard is approx $200+ per pallet of sod. Add to that the 2 days labor to install it yourself, or hire $omeone. THEN the big kicker, to get the sod to root you will have to water daily from at least 3 weeks. So again, no, water today saves you more tomorrow. This is only talking about your lawn. It would cost more to replace that broken water pipe due to contracting soil, $3000up to repair your foundation. $1500 to remove that mature dead Oak tree. Isn't it easier and cheaper to water your lawn?

Gigix4 --- 8 years ago -

I already know the water bill will be about twice the amount of my electric bill ... and both will be high!

BalletMom --- 8 years ago -

I am trying to decipher my water bill... Plus, I noticed in the last year or so... My "Drainage" fee has changed.. as in increased.. Which is totally suspect... It's not like the land and the house structure has changed since 1991 when house was built?? It is NOT passing the smell test for me... and I just haven't had time to decipher, figure it out, call and complain.. request and "accounting" (which strangely requires that I produce the documentation why they're new figure is inaccurate!?) Total BS

TinktheSprite --- 8 years ago -

Are you sure your landscape hasn't changed since 1991? While the sewer rates have actually changed, they changed the way they look at the land and impervious surfaces surrounding your home. Using infrared cameras from the sky, they take photos of your land to measure your roof line as well as any land structures such as patios, decking, sheds, walk ways and paths, patio covers, covered gazebos, etc. I am not saying this is fair, nor am I saying they are accurate but that is part of the way of how the sewer charges are calculated.

I'm surprised Xeriscaping isn't becoming more popular here

TinktheSprite --- 8 years ago -

Xeriscape is not as maintenance-free as some people think. Sure, it's drought tolerant. But upkeep it actually harder than most lawn care. That is evidenced by the homes that have partial or full Xeriscape. The lawn part is maintained better than the rock parts. Weed will grow in the rocks if not maintained. Plus as with any landscape, if not planned carefully it could look junky on top of that. I have seen two pseudo-Xeriscapes in KW one in Elm Grove and one in Sherwood Trails. They are bot well done. Neither of them look inviting and lack curb appeal You really need to know what you are doing to pull it off.

fuzz81 --- 8 years ago -

Go to Phoenix, beautiful Xeriscaping. It can be done well, but I agree it can look bad if not done properly. Then again, there aren't weed issues in the desert.

As water prices skyrocket (and they will), grass will likely become less prominent.

TinktheSprite --- 8 years ago -

I have seen beautifully *maintained* Xeriscapes. Most simply think rocks take care of themselves.
St. Augustine is a high maintenance lawn requiring more water than most lawns.

mamamiaow --- 8 years ago -

My son lives in Sherwood Trails and his water bill was higher, it showed higher usage. Turns out, there was a leak in the meter area. But several of his neighbors were also complaining of much higher bills. They are wondering if something strange is happening.
