How many wells are they going to shut down? I assume it's tons since we keep getting brown water.

They tell us to run our cold water until it runs clear otherwise the sediment will build up in the hot water tank. So I have a couple of questions.

1. Who is going to pay for all the water that we're running till it runs clear? (I'm already running it for 10 mins straight and it's still brown.) Well of course we will at the city of Houston's outrageous water rates.

2. And if we don't do that who's going to pay for our new water heaters?

If I were dependent on city watet and it was brown I would take a sample and have it analyzed independently...

FANCY PANTS --- 8 years ago -

Where can we take it to have it analyzed?

Try this...

Accutest Gulf Coast -TX
10165 Harwin Drive

Houston, TX 77036
Phone 713-271-4700

Has contact information for our city councilman who can pass this on?

witchywoman --- 8 years ago -

That should read "who has." Talking into phone. Sorry.

No need to flush all the faucets, only the ones you've used. Seems to work for us. If you leave the house for the day, most likely the water hasn't entered your system due to non-use. I purposely do not do laundry use other bathrooms, or use our fridge water during these times. Brown water can't get it if you don't use it. I can't imagine cleaning out my ice maker!

If I ever see dirty water, I avoid using water for a few hours, and let others flush out the mains, then it clears up quickly.

TinktheSprite --- 8 years ago -

^^^^EXACTLY!

fuzz81 --- 8 years ago -

We shouldn't be spreading that advice.... If everyone does it, we'll end up in deadlock with nobody wanting to flush the pipes.

TinktheSprite --- 8 years ago -

Well, I find it impossible NOT to use water during that time. And they don't give us notice like that did this last time. I wonder why they did?? The best way is to be away from home for the day.

I needed to take a shower. The sediment at the bottom of the tub as I was flushing was nothing short of disgusting. I never could get it to run clean.

So how many wells are they shutting down and how long is this going to go on for?

It's just iron that makes it orange, and other minerals. I wouldn't drink it but it's not harmful. Have you ever had the water in Midland TX? Looks great Smells awful. Tastes worse! The residents' teeth are discolored from it.
