The United States has a prosecutorial team looking for a high crime. With Watergate you started with a crime and tried to find out how it happened. Currently, there are 16 investigators (half with ties to the Democratic party and none with ties to the Republicans). This does not bode well for a democracy.
Stalin used the same tactic when he murdered millions. Stalin felt that if he looked long enough he could find a person guilty of something, and execute them.
Pulitzer-prize winning writer Charles Krauthammer puts it pretty clearly, when he says we (as a country) may be facing a crisis.
Mueller, himself, has a conflict of interest according to the laws governing special prosecutors. Do you think that his conflict will taint whatever findings he comes up with? He should resign and another person be appointed.
The investigation started as an anti espionage case.
Actually, it is meandering around. Started as an investigation of Trump collusion with Russia. But, since there is no evidence (of collusion) they are looking at economic ties between Trump and Russia (Starting with a business deal between Trump and Russia ten years ago).
It shows how desperate the investigators are. Could it be the Russians knew ten years ago Trump would be president and began working a deal with him back then?
