The child was badly mauled, but is expected to survive, thanks to the actions of Dwayne Pressley.

Quote:
Hanging out with friends in his California neighborhood, Dwayne Pressley heard a strange sound outside.

He and a friend went to investigate and discovered a horrifying sight, reported KGET. A 3-year-old boy had fallen from a window next door into a dog pen, where a dog described as a pit bull attacked him.

?I thought he was dead,? Pressley told the station. He jumped the fence into the dog pen and grabbed the child.

?You know he was cold and wet and so I put him inside my jacket, and I?m trying to hold him and trying to get out the gate at the same time,? Pressley told KBAK. ?And the dog is coming at me, coming at me, going this way, going that way. So I?m trying to get help so I can get the kid out of the yard and protect myself at the same time. Oh man. Eternity. Like it would never, like it would never end.?

Still together, and I only date one person at a time, as I value my sanity and my health.

Smart move! Good for you!

I thought pit bulls were harmless cute little puppies...

SagaciousSighFiGurl (Mod) --- 7 years ago -

They are, when they aren't abused and mistreated.

idontplaynice --- 7 years ago -

I, for one, applaud this man for his bravery. He didn't have a gun. He risked his own safety to protect a stranger's child. And yes, as you can see, he is BLACK.

And this thread isn't about pit bulls or bad parenting. Let's give this man his due, he deserves it, no matter how you may feel about certain groups of people.

SagaciousSighFiGurl (Mod) --- 7 years ago -

He's a brave and great guy to do that!

Prolix Raconteur --- 7 years ago -

Hero for sure.

Joe Blow --- 7 years ago -

They are, when they aren't abused and mistreated.?

Not all of them, dollface. The breed is known to turn on their loving owners.

SagaciousSighFiGurl (Mod) --- 7 years ago -

I don't know why this subject is so filled with emotion. There are bad Pitts and they are the ones who have been used to fight and kill other animals, abused, beaten and mishandled. They should be put down. But there are also many many great companion dogs.

Every breed is capable of biting. I don't believe that a Pitt raised by a responsible loving owner turns on them any more often than any other dog who might bite. I had a Pitt growing up. I know many others who have them. I've had more Chihuahuas act aggressive in my experience. They are much easier to control since they weigh 4 lbs. lol

idontplaynice --- 7 years ago -

To be fair to pit bulls and SagaciousSighFiGurl, I had a pit bull and I loved him to death. Smart dog for sure.

I also currently know a guy who has a female pit that is one of the most adorable, mellow dogs I have ever met.

Any dog kept chained up outside is apt to be aggressive, which is how the dog in the story is kept, I think.

StopItNow --- 7 years ago -

That right there is a brave man, and is now a Hero. Good for him!

SagaciousSighFiGurl (Mod) --- 7 years ago -

There is an organization that tests dog personalities, demeanor and aggressive tendencies. They tested every breed, almost 1000 Pitts were tested in real life situations. Here are the results. The Golden Retriever passed LESS often. Don't get me wrong, Goldens are awesome dogs but the Pitt has been misjudged and maligned in many ways bc of the media frenzy surrounding the dogs who have bitten people.

American temperament testing results

AwesomeTattooedDragon --- 7 years ago -

Amen to that.

jackass --- 7 years ago -

Nevermind personality tests, let?s test the most adorable pit bull against the most aggressive golden retriever in feats of strength...and agility.

Just because some people can keep a mountain lion as a pet doesn?t mean it?s a good idea for anyone. Not all animals are created equal. An aggressive pitbull is a danger to everyone not just the family who keeps it.

Also yes this guy was seriously brave to do that.

AwesomeTattooedDragon --- 7 years ago -

You're right. An aggressive dog isn't a good pet.

TinktheSprite --- 7 years ago -

Aggressive dog, ANY dog. Scary situation! Teeth HURT! I hope the baby will be okay from the fall and the dog bites. sigh

AwesomeTattooedDragon --- 7 years ago -

Yep- any dog! Dog bites suck!

OrdinaryGuy --- 7 years ago -

That's why I have an attack Chihuahua. LOL All 5 pounds of him.

The Awe Inspiring JoelleDrees (Mod) --- 7 years ago -

My grandmother had a Chihuahua when I was growing up. Meanest dog I ever met. Her name was Honey but she was not sweet. Bit the crap out of us all the time and never stopped barking. I hated that dog.

SagaciousSighFiGurl (Mod) --- 7 years ago -

Its funny you guys mention the Chi. Bc in that temperament test, that breed had the lowest score on temperament testing.LOL. They are very popular and bc of that inbreeding is an issue.

I have to say, that's been my experience. They are hard hard hard to train, stubborn, serial barkers and bossy. Of course not all, but lots. But when they're sweet, they're sweet! Hahaa

AwesomeTattooedDragon --- 7 years ago -

I have a dog that's 1/2 Chi- he's huge for a Chi- 22 lbs! Whatever he's mixed with is a dog that's sweet tempered, though- other than that, he's a pain in the butt!
