My daughter recently introduced me to her new boyfriend. At first he seemed interesting just from the clothing he wore (a rosary with the cross missing and a zodiac pendant and a normal cross then on one wrist maybe 5-7 bracelets like bead bracelets not those rubber ones). I thought that was kinda strange for a guy, but that's just me. But he had a very unique name and when I asked him the origin he told me that it was romani. So i googled what that was and turns out that he's a gypsy. Should I be worried and should I allow my daughter to keep a relationship with this guy?
Gypsies marry very young. They shun outsiders. It's odd that this boys parents are allowing him to see your daughter. They are good people but they live by their own rules. They are nothing like the Amish but think of them to compare....they live by their own rules also.
This exact question, I couldn't find anything else on this or what I could find was from Europe where I know they are hated. I just wanted to know if anyone else has had something like this happen before. I've always come on the site just to read the gossip (yup I know bad me). He seems like a nice kid but I don't know if that's just a front.
From what I have heard, they only marry other gypsies, and the boys will date a white girl, but white girls are strictly to play with. So...basically mostly only want sex from white girls.
Of course, that is a huge generalization, so who knows.
I agree, definitely ask to meet the parents.
Yes, it is normal for the guys to like a lot of jewelry. It is normal for them, not weird, but of course it seems odd to other cultures. They like everything BIG and gawdy. The women are the queens of bling.
The men tend to work seasonal jobs and the women usually stay home with the kids. Often they live in campers so they can travel to find work.
Why are you controlling who she dates?? She is almost 17 and he is 18, I'm not controlling who she dates (I mean unless she starts dating a druggie or felon) I'm just trying to get a better handle on who this kid is and what he wants out of my daughter since is supposed culture has a history of people hating them.
I'm going off the origin of his name and the way he dressed. I mean come on be honest guys if your daughters brought a boy home and he was dressed with sagging pants and chains around his neck you know that entire "gangsta" way of dressing you would associate him with that culture.
I'm not saying gangsta is gyspy dress but you would associate gangsta dress with gangsters as you would associate gypsy dress with gypsys so I'm assuming he is one with all the jewelry he was wearing and from the origin of the name he told me.
zapper007 --- 20 min ago - quote - hide comments Gypsies usually steal - and con their way through life.
Amish are possibly the most honest - and god fearing people on the planet.
They do not marry "English"...
Please Google these terms and quit guessing...
No one said they were totally alike. I said to compare them.....they each live by their own rules. You don't need to Google to know that. And not ALL Amish are the way you described. And to defend Sath, she is the girls mother if she wasn't questioning her daughters boyfriends I would be worried. She is being a good mother. You should back off.
Thank you Monkey Butt, I don't understand what I did wrong. I tried googling as much as I could but there isn't much. I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with this culture. He seems nice and my daughter is head over heels for him and I just don't want her to get hurt.
Many years ago, I worked in a cardiac unit at a big hospital. There is a large population of gypsies in this community. When we would get an gypsy admit, we would have to remove everything from the room, the clock, the phone, the bible, bedding, medical supplies, everything. Was very strange.
