I asked that everyone pray for this poorboy. As I was driving down Woodland Hills on the south side of North Park in front of St. Martha's church and ambulance was approaching and then a fire truck there were a bunch of other boys seem to be high school age in jogging shorts it seemed as if they were doing their morning run as they typically do. When I was approaching I could see there was a young man that was lying on his back and as I slowly pulled forward looking to see if there was anything I could do the ambulance paramedics were already out of their vehicle and beside the boy who seemed unconscious and had blood coming from his face it's such a sad tragedy that people were not paying attention and hit this young man with their vehicle. Oh my gosh please pray for him I hope sincerely this young man makes it out of this tragedy that has occurred!

Oh no - prayers for this young man.

Jessica --- 10 years ago -

This is a student from Kingwood High School. I've just found out.

lizandmike --- 10 years ago -

The nurse from St Martha's School was attending to the boy before the paramedics arrived. She was not performing CPR, indicating that he was breathing and his heart was beating.
Such a sad situation for all involved. It is hard to see people in that particular median and coupled with all the distractions to drivers, it's a bad combination.
Prayers for the boy that was hit and the boy that hit him.

How do you know that he didn't run out in front of a vehicle rather than they weren't paying attention?

I think maybe you should wait for the facts.

Kids on Woodland Hills frequently walk out in front of vehicles like they own the road.

I wouldn't suggest that this is what happened in this case because I have no facts either.

I do hope that the kid is ok and makes a speedy recovery regardless of how the accident happened.

I agree!

PRAYING FOR ALL INVOLVED.

Dotti --- 10 years ago -

I am praying for all involved but I can say that when coming down Oak Shores - when you get by the Green Belt most people just proceed to go right across without even looking. Most people use my street to beat the light at Woodland Hills and Northpark and I am also so careful in that area because I have seen people shoot out of there so many times. I hope this boy is ok.

Miss Understanding --- 10 years ago -

Prayers for that poor child!

KWSAS --- 10 years ago -

My daughter and I were driving down Woodland Hills Dr. this morning when the Cadillac Escalade in front of us stopped to allow runners to cross the street. We were in the far right lane. The car in the in the left lane had no way to see around our two SUV's to see the runners. He did slow down And at that time two students ran out in front of his car.
one student was able to stop in time however the other one was struck by the car. He made his way to the median where he had a laceration on his eyebrow which was bleeding pretty bad. He laid there as a physician assistant came up to help him and also the nurse from Kingwood middle school. The boy never lost consciousness and was very calm and relaxed until paramedics arrived. He was taken to a local hospital. The boy driving the car that hit him felt very bad but had no idea someone was going to run out from behind the stopped car.
it was a complete accident that I could see happening to almost anyone.I am very thankful that boy was not going 40 miles an hour which was the speed limit. This could have been a much worse incident. I pray the student heals quickly as he was pretty banged up. Considering the incident he was very polite to everyone helping and was able to remember his mom's cell number.

Thank you for the updated information. When I saw the child he appeared unconscious. To the two who asked for me to wait and state the facts. I'm sorry but if a vehicle hits a person regardless of the situation I believe it's always the driver's fault. If cars in another lane are stopped then a driver would know to stop before proceeding as well, especially since it was a Greenbelt crossing.
So I'm sorry if this offends you, but it's my right to have an opinion, just as you can have the right to quickly attack. My opinion is that the driver was not paying attention to his surroundings and what was going on around him and outside his vehicle.
Hopefully all who have been involved are doing ok since the accident.

Gigix4 --- 10 years ago -

From another site: the boy has a possible broken wrist.

KWSAS --- 10 years ago -

My opinion was that the driver was paying attention as he did slow down his car. The Escalade stopped right on the greenbelt crossing and the students came out from directly in front of their bumper.
Other students who were running as well said they didn't know why the runners went ahead running across because they knew it wasn't safe.
Again this happened very fast and since we were in tall vehicles and this driver was in a little car he could have never seen around us. He was coming up behind my left side and I had not come to a stop yet.

I hate to say it but if the Cadillac had not stopped so close to the runners there would have been plenty of room for the left lane driver to see the runners.

Identity Crisis --- 10 years ago -

No matter what we shouldn't blame the victim. We need to be responsible for ourselves, kids for the running, adults for the driving. we need to stop arguing over the petty stuff and thank God that our kids came home in one piece today

Valentine --- 10 years ago -

Seems to me there's no reason for students to be crossing the street like that- there's an under pass on WHD right in between NP and KW . Aren't the track kids supposed to go on a set path? Why wouldn't the school instruct them to use the under pass?

I'm not placing blame, rather pointing out they're taking an unnecessary risk

Judas --- 10 years ago -

If you're approaching an intersectin where two other cars are stopped why in the Devil's name would you proceed instead of come to a full stop and look both ways first.

Valentine --- 10 years ago -

Kids make bad decisions. For this reason the school should be instructing them to use the under pass where possible

Gigix4 --- 10 years ago -

Judas, I may be wrong, but I think where this accident happened, there is no stop sign - not really an "intersection". Maybe a crosswalk ...

KWSAS --- 10 years ago -

Judas it was not an intersection or even close to a cross street.

A KPARK coach said they stopped having students cross this road because it was not safe with all the cars.
I agree with the tunnels or even taking the trails through the neighborhood without crossing major roads.
It is easy to have an opinion in hindsight but if I were crossing a street on foot or in a car I would always look into the second lane before proceeding.
Watching it happen was a very helpless feeling and my faith helps me to accept that God is in control.

Ed Earl --- 10 years ago -

It seems it was an accident. Prayers for the young man that was hit and the driver. It is impossible to prevent every accident.

Don't they have a track at the school?

Gigix4 --- 10 years ago -

If these were cross country runners, they usually don't train on a regular track.

Perfection --- 10 years ago -

They need to train where they don't run in traffic. If that means they run circles at the track then that's what is needed for safety.

Correct. Cross country teams do not train on a track. They do some workouts on the track, but meets are ran on different terrain like mud, grass, dirt, gravel, hills, etc., so they train on the trails.

Dorothy Parker --- 10 years ago -

Poor kid and driver! Glad they're both ok and the runner has minor injuries.

Grannys Girl --- 10 years ago -

I was driving down North Park yesterday (towards KPark) and the cross country team was running on the green belt. Boys were darting off the green belt across the grass and into the street, running against traffic. I assume that they were attempting to pass slower runners on the green belt, but they were like deer dodging off and onto the street. Scared me to death-it was a serious accident waiting to happen. The coaches need to stop that before someone gets hurt!!
