I just wanted to spread the word how horrible this place is for anyone that needs to know. In November, I dropped off more than 50 crown royal bags for them to make a blanket out of as a gift. I talked to them, was told they would call me when it was done. I waited a month and did not receive any phone calls about it so right before Christmas, I called to check on it and they told me "We will call you when it is finished" .. I waited another month and called "Yes, it will be ready today, we will call you" .. I did not receive a phone call so I called AGAIN.. "Oh I was wrong, we cannot do your blanket." When I asked them why, they said they TOLD me they could not do it because they needed more fabric. I told them they never told me that, they never called me ONCE during a TWO MONTH PERIOD to talk to me about it.

I went in to get my bags back, and asked again why I wasn't notified, she said she told me that they could not do it in November when I gave them the bags. Maybe I'm an idiot, but I don't think I would leave my bags there KNOWING they weren't going to be done. She basically shooed me out of the store with a "It's okay, you can have them back" because she obviously did not want customers to see me being upset.

So not only did they hold on to them for two months and did nothing, but then lied and turned it around on me. They obviously had no clue who I was when I would call to check on it, and never tried to make contact with me about anything. I am so upset that this was supposed to be a Christmas gift, then turned into a birthday gift, and now I am left with a bunch of bags after two months.

Horrible customer service, horrible communication, HORRIBLE!

Btdt --- 10 years ago -

Sorry to hear you had such a negative experience with them. We have been using them for years and have never had any problems. Always too notch service. It's a shame there was a breakdown in communication and you didn't get the service you expected. Did you find another seamstress to make the quilt for you?

freebyrdll --- 10 years ago -

Business bashing is on the rise on KU once again. The biggest problem with this so often is that we only get 1 side of the story. Counter productive at best.

cgils1989 --- 10 years ago -

I just went and picked them up yesterday so I have not been able to try and contact any other seamstresses about it. I'm definitely taking suggestions.

And sorry freebyrd, I'm not sure what other "side" there is other than they said they could do it, told me they were doing it, then two months later said they couldn't. I would have loved to get their side but they were so eager to give me my bags back and kick me out the door, I did not get much of an explanation. If they had done what they said, I would be here writing a fantastic review about an awesome experience. Unfortunately, that is not the case.

Btdt --- 10 years ago -

Agreed Freebyrd. I know they are great tailors as we are regulars. I get all of my clothes altered there because I have proportions that don't quite fit nicely in off the rack clothes. I've never asked for a quilt to be made but they excel at taking a little bit in here and letting a little bit out there. Well tailored clothes just make me feel like a million bucks. What the OP described can happen at any business and from my experience, it is definitely out of the ordinary for this business.

cgils1989 --- 10 years ago -

I'm sure they are great at alterations, I had never gone there for anything before. I called and made sure they could do a Crown Royal blanket, they said yes, I brought them everything I thought they needed, they took my information, they told me they could do it, and that I would be called when it was finished. My point is as a customer, they did not try to rectify the situation. I am not a "business basher" by any means, but I was literally shown the door after waiting for TWO MONTHS for it. They had my phone number and they just let my stuff sit for two months with no phone call or anything. If that is not bad customer service, then maybe I don't know what I'm talking about. Like I said, I am taking suggestions for anyone who DOES know of a tailor / seamstress that does quilts / blankets and would appreciate any help! Thanks :)

Btdt --- 10 years ago -

Check in the classifieds on KDC or post on KYS that you are looking for someone to make a quilt for you. You would probably find someone pretty fast.

Call me crazy, but this site was made under the pretense of spreading important word about doings in our neighborhood... Hence Kingwood UNDERGROUND. From day 1, 8 or so years ago, (okay I might have come around day 20), this was our place to share business experiences (GOOD and BAD) with our neighbors, talk about crimes occurring we may not have heard of, and yes, gossip. Before using a new business in the area, I ALWAYS 100% of the time come to KU first and search by name. I have read thousands of referrals here and taken the word of my peers as honest and to heart. It has enabled me to protect myself from scams and bad business experiences for the most part and also enabled me to experience some quite enjoyable business experiences. I don't see anything in her post that would be considered bashing or harassment. I find it helpful actually. Something that really sticks out and resonates with me is the numerous complaints about Sisney Auto Repair in Porter I read here, and years after the 1st one, the owner was arrested for his scams. I knew someone who was looking to restore a classic car and remembered to steer him clear of that place because of KU. I believe I probably saved him thousands of dollars simply because of that. Thanks for your review cgils1989, I will be sure to take my business elsewhere! :)

I just wanted to spread the word how horrible this place is for anyone that needs to know.

There is "stating the issue", then there is "creating an impression". In this case, your opening statement is general " business bashing". Tell your story, period.

My husband went in once to have a pair of slacks altered. He said the woman wasn't nice & said it was impossible to do. He went to Latiffe(?) she did a great job and now we use them without any problems. I would never recommend Master Tailors.

Good, informative post.

Leila --- 10 years ago -

I also use this tailor and love them. They have never failed to give me good service and fast turn around. My neighbor first told me about them because they made her daughter's elaborate dance costumes. I referred a relative who needed her bridal gown altered (you can't get much more important than that!) and she was extremely satisfied by the work quality and the price.

But my experiences do not make the OPs less valid. Many of us have been let down by service somewhere even when everyone else had a 5* review..in fact, when that happens it is even more frustrating.

I think rather than to deter me or others who may go here for alterations, is to make sure you have communicated extremely well what you want done, especially if it is something unusual like a crown royal blanket. Even then, things happen.

Leila --- 10 years ago -

And just to show you how different our experiences can be: I used Latiffes and found the woman very off putting in her manner and they were so backed up that it took twice as long to get my alterations as it does at Master tailors. So, you know what they say, different strokes for different folks..or something like that!

I wholeheartedly agree with this statement.

To freebyrd: Explain to us why sharing experiences about local businesses is considered, in your words, bashing. Are you concerned that other local businesses will receive poor reviews?

I tried to explain my concerns above:

There is "stating the issue", then there is "creating an impression". In this case, your opening statement is general " business bashing". Tell your story, period.

I then went on to praise a poster for a professional critique:

I guess, as I stated earlier, so often these posts only tell one side of the story. I personally don't know how a reader can distinguish between an angry ex employee or someone with a personal vendetta versus a business which has wronged or cheated a customer. Sadly, both happen here.

Sorry about your inconvenience. I had the exact same thing happen to me with a shotgun. I still need it repaired. Its only been almost a decade since that happened.

where is this tailor exactly? is this the one to the side of steinmart? what i want to know is what happened to inside story the design place next to steinmart??

cgils1989 --- 10 years ago -

THANK YOU TOIDBOID! I'll shoot them a text and see if they can help :)

This tailor is on the other side of kingwood drive, opposite Steinmart in the shopping center next to Amerejuve.

RW19 --- 10 years ago -

my wife uses Master Tailor and loves them. They've done a great job on all the clothes she's taken there. They do a great job on shoe repair too as I've taken my shoes there numerous times to get re-soled.

Jpgirl --- 10 years ago -

You probably do need extra material- batting and backing to make a quilt. Just sewing the bags together isn't going to work or look pretty. Not for or against the complaint but no way would I take a project like that to any tailor. Tailors adjust not create. You'd be better off looking at quilters or crafters - be prepared though it doesn't come cheap because of the work. I priced out a T shirt quilt- 200.00 for a throw size. Cheaper to do it myself.

Eliza2 --- 10 years ago -

You need a quilter to do this project. Go to the fabric store by Union kitchen. They can guide you from here.

the real question should be who drank FIFTY BOTTLES of crown royal?

"more than 50 crown royal bags"

Did you drop your liver off at the hospital after?

ToidBoid --- 10 years ago -

I bought one of these Crown Royal "throws" on Etsy for my brother - it was $80. . . you can also buy them on EBAY.

That's probably cheaper than having one made and much cheaper than buying all of than Crown Royal! Just wondering if it would be a comfy blanket or is it just something for looks only.

ToidBoid --- 10 years ago -

The backing was something like felt - the ones on Ebay - which are more expensive - have a velour or binky fabric backing... there's a difference in price between the "throw" and a "quilt." My brother uses it to cover up when he's in his recliner. . .

a2645039uu --- 10 years ago -

been using them for years. they do great work, quickly, and super polite. the one time I was dissatisfied with their work, they quickly corrected the issue.

ToidBoid --- 10 years ago -

I've used Master Tailors for years - not only for alterations, but they have made a table runner with matching placemats and chair covers for me. . .

Dorothy Parker --- 10 years ago -

I love the folks at Just Alterations in Atascocita. I took a dress into Master Tailor and they said they wanted to charge $50 just to open it to see how to do the alteration, and the alteration itself would be a separate charge, starting at $50. I took it to Just Alterations, they charged $60 total....and it was beautiful.

TinktheSprite --- 10 years ago -

Ditto, here. They did some hard work altering my DD's wedding gown.

cgils1989 --- 10 years ago -

I contacted the seamstress ad Toidboid posted and she said she could help. Thanks for the USEFUL suggestions. And no, I did not drink 50 bottles of liquor. Years of my boyfriend / his family / his friends / my friends drinking and buying bundles on ebay all contributed to them.

roustabout --- 10 years ago -

Please post a picture of the finished blanket when it is done - sounds awesome! I have buddies who would love something like this.

ThisLady --- 10 years ago -

I've used master tailor for many years and have referred several of my friends to them who also have used them for several years with no problems. They altered my wedding dress (where bridal shop alters said was impossible to do) from a size 3 to a zero, for $150. They are meticulous and took time in explaining to me what problems in which areas could arise from going smaller. I took my chances and they did great. They know what they're doing and are usually pretty quick at delivering.

I've heard good things about Latifee's too, but I recall them charging my mom $90 for minor hemming on one of my homecoming dresses many years ago. I've met her a couple of times since then though and have felt she is a sweet and genuine woman. I guess it all depends on what you need done.

Hope all goes well with the quilt, yes please do post pictures of the finished product :).
