Ray - skim through this. One point he makes, which I think is correct is that the ends of the spectrum are the most vocal, and get the most air time. However, the vast majority of Americans are still pragmatic and issue focused, but in general apathetic. The fringes are framing the debate.
Think the vast majority are understandably preoccupied just getting through the day, taking care of their families, and looking forward to an hour or two of down time with the blue TV light washing over them. Combined with an equally justified feeling of powerlessness over the situation.
On top of all of that, the effort to stay informed now with some sort of balanced source of information is getting harder and harder.
Ray - on the other issue you raise. I don't think personal empathy or charity are partisan issues. They are personal traits installed somewhere along the line. Both sides have those who have them, and those who need them.
On a party basis, I also think empathy and charity are non - partisan. I think either side of center has had different political views on how best to deal with it.
Glad you gave the man the $10. Hopefully you got a feeling of helping, of doing something, of at least acknowledging the person. I can also sympathize with those who did not contribute. I think the right answer is the one that fits your conscience.
One thing that I have starting doing, and I highly recommend this, is when I do give a handout, I have been starting to ask their name. You would be amazed sometimes at how their whole demeanor changes. They straiten up, their eyes come up from looking at the ground, sometimes I think they get more out of that then the buck or 5 I give them.
"It is morally repugnant and a national tragedy that we have privatized prisons all over America. In my view, corporations should not be allowed to make a profit by building more jails and keeping more Americans behind bars. We have got to end the private-for-profit prison racket in America!"
I couldn't agree more. Still think the GOP is "Family Values"? He is winning me over. Love the clown pics^^^^^
"If you?re a political junkie on social media, you?ve seen the camps. There?s the Hillary camp, and there?s the Bernie camp.
For the few who still don?t get it: Bernie Sanders is running as a Democrat ? not as an Independent. This means he will not be taking votes away from Hillary if she?s the one who wins the primary. It will be one or the other ? unless we see another rock star liberal pop up."~July 3, 2015 by Kimberley Johnson
