WH tweeted the lie Obama told today.

FLAT OUT BUSTED!!!

The White HouseVerified account
?@WhiteHouse

"A violent felon can buy the exact same weapon over the internet with no background check, no questions asked." ?@POTUS #StopGunViolence

FACT:

Guns bought online are never shipped to the consumers home, but instead, to a federally licensed gun shop. Selling guns online also requires a FFL-both parties must be licensed appropriately, in order for a transaction to occur. After purchase the online gun retailer will ship the firearm to the local gun dealer, where the consumer will pick it up in person.
At the time of pickup, the gun retailer will treat the transaction like one made in a store. Background checks, additional fees, and waiting periods will be administered according to the state's particular gun laws. There are no shortcuts when buying or selling guns online.

Purchasing guns online

DatBoyHooD --- 9 years ago -

He simply misspoke

TXbluebird --- 9 years ago -

Ask yourself why you are so determined to vilify a man whose only agenda is to stop gun violence and save the lives of innocent people, including the mentally ill who commit suicide. The Founding Fathers Never intended us to have the right to own an assault rifle or automatic weapon. I don't see either the NRA or gun right proponents taking ANY responsibility for curbing gun violence. What is your plan or do you think things are fine the way they are?

sunshine1881 --- 9 years ago -

I would consider "over the internet" to include Craigslist, and Facebook groups, etc.

fuzz81 --- 9 years ago -

Not exactly. Private Internet sales occur via sites like armslist.com which don't require background checks. I'm sure this site will be changing its MO soon

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/wonk/wp/2013/08/05/is-it-really-so-easy-to-buy-a-gun-over-the-internet/

Prolix Raconteur --- 9 years ago -

Craigslist won't allow posting anything about firearms. There is no internet firearms sales site anywhere that will ship a gun directly to a buyer. It has to be shipped through and picked up at a registered FFL broker.

sunshine1881 --- 9 years ago -

OK, well, sales through Facebook groups then where the buyer picks up from the seller.

FNHO --- 9 years ago -

They can all consider themselves "on notice" to clean up their act.

Prolix Raconteur --- 9 years ago -

That's certainly happened I'm sure. Just like buying a gun through less than scrupulous sources in one's own town.

fuzz81 --- 9 years ago -

Armslist is the craigslist for guns

Hiro Protagonist --- 9 years ago -

Lying apparently doesn't matter anymore. Trump has been lying through his teeth through the entire election, and no one seems to care.

Prolix Raconteur --- 9 years ago -

Trump has been lying through his teeth through the entire election,

And which one hasn't?

SoupIsGoodFood --- 9 years ago -

OK, well, sales through Facebook groups then where the buyer picks up from the seller.

That's not an "online" sale. That's a person to person sale.

SoupIsGoodFood --- 9 years ago -

Trump has been lying through his teeth through the entire election, and no one seems to care.

.......... and here's the Trump diversion.

Prolix Raconteur --- 9 years ago -

Ban Social Media!

fuzz81 --- 9 years ago -

That's not an "online" sale. That's a person to person sale

How did these people find each other to setup the sale?

SoupIsGoodFood --- 9 years ago -

Yeah. Now you're really reaching, fuzzball.

SoupIsGoodFood --- 9 years ago -

Spin this anyway you Obama cheerleaders want.

He flat out lied.

fuzz81 --- 9 years ago -

Yes, it's reaching to point out that the sale was setup online... You're overuse/misuse of the word "reaching" is comical

SoupIsGoodFood --- 9 years ago -

R E A C H........... Fuzzy.

He lied.

fuzz81 --- 9 years ago -

About?

SoupIsGoodFood --- 9 years ago -

Read. It might help you out.

Emperor of Kingwood --- 9 years ago -

Ask yourself why you are so determined to vilify a man whose only agenda is to stop gun violence and save the lives of innocent people, including the mentally ill who commit suicide.

Because I don't believe that's his real agenda and neither do most other people unless they are naïve.

sunshine1881 --- 9 years ago -

It's not a buddy to buddy or within the family sale, therefore, there should be a background check required.

Good lord, you have to have your ID checked to buy alcohol or cigarettes. You have to be licensed to drive a car (and trained). Why is it such a big deal to fill out a little bit of paperwork and wait a few minutes, couple hours, whatever, to buy a gun.

Emperor of Kingwood --- 9 years ago -

The Founding Fathers Never intended us to have the right to own an assault rifle or automatic weapon.

How do you know? what's an assault rifle? Its already illegal to own a fully automatic.

sunshine1881 --- 9 years ago -

Because the NRA has been telling him for 7 years that Obama is gonna take his guns, so it must be true even though it still hasn't happened. (How much have ammo prices risen in that time?)

Emperor of Kingwood --- 9 years ago -

It's not a buddy to buddy or within the family sale, therefore, there should be a background check required.

A background check is required.

SoupIsGoodFood --- 9 years ago -

Blows my mind. You guys are all for background checks and ID checks for guns, alcohol and cigarettes.

But when you demand photo ID checks for voting. You guys flip a lid.

SoupIsGoodFood --- 9 years ago -

Why is it such a big deal to fill out a little bit of paperwork and wait a few minutes, couple hours, whatever, to buy a gun.

Why is it such a big deal to do the same thing to vote?

SoupIsGoodFood --- 9 years ago -

Ask yourself why you are so determined to vilify a man whose only agenda is to stop gun violence and save the lives of innocent people, including the mentally ill who commit suicide.

Because he LIES.

FNHO --- 9 years ago -

Reaching again by the OP

SoupIsGoodFood --- 9 years ago -

Oh no. FNHO showed up with nothing again.

fuzz81 --- 9 years ago -

Because deep down these idiots think that ANY measure to restrict gun purchases will give the government ultimate power to take their guns, which they feel they will one day need to defend themselves from a "tyrannical government" like the idiots that took over the building in Oregon.

Emperor of Kingwood --- 9 years ago -

Because the NRA has been telling him for 7 years that Obama is gonna take his guns, so it must be true even though it still hasn't happened.

Who cares what the NRA says?

fuzz81 --- 9 years ago -

It's not a buddy to buddy or within the family sale, therefore, there should be a background check required.

A background check is required.?

Who's lying now? Is a guy on armslist your "buddy", or just a random person wanting to sell a gun?

sunshine1881 --- 9 years ago -

But when you demand photo ID checks for voting. You guys flip a lid.

You're already registered to vote (already been checked). Already have to present a voter registration card or ID.

The problem is, I had to go back home and get my passport last time I voted because my voter registration card had my maiden name and married name while my DL only had my married name.

Had I not had a passport (lower income, minorities) I would not have been able to vote. Were I not a dedicated voter (younger) I may not have been willing to make the extra effort to vote. Who has maiden names (women), and has to worry about this?

Follow the parenthesis and see who that law targets.

Emperor of Kingwood --- 9 years ago -

Because deep down these idiots think that ANY measure to restrict gun purchases will give the government ultimate power to take their guns, which they feel they will one day need to defend themselves from a "tyrannical government"

Those "idiots" as you referred to them were some of Americas founders. They fought for liberty, something you clearly don't understand.

SoupIsGoodFood --- 9 years ago -

Just like you guys think that requiring everyone to show photo ID to vote is going to strip all the minorities of the right to vote.

Both trains of thought are just ridiculous.

SoupIsGoodFood --- 9 years ago -

The problem is, I had to go back home and get my passport last time I voted because my voter registration card had my maiden name and married name while my DL only had my married name.

You don't need your voter registration card to vote. All you need is is your DL.

Emperor of Kingwood --- 9 years ago -

Couldn't you have changed your DL name? Wouldn't that have been the responsible thing to do> Oh right, then you couldn't play victim.
