Today, I placed my Smith & Wesson .357 revolver on the table right next to my front door. I left 6 cartridges beside it, then left it alone and went about my business.

While I was gone, the mailman delivered my mail, the neighbor's son across the street mowed the yard, a girl walked her dog down the street, and quite a few cars stopped at the "stop" sign near the front of my house.

After about an hour, I checked on the gun. It was quietly sitting there, right where I had left it. It had not moved itself outside. It had not killed anyone. Certainly, even with the numerous opportunities it had presented to do that. In fact, it had not even loaded itself.

Well you can imagine my surprise, with all the hype by the Left and the media, about how dangerous guns are and ?How They? kill people. Either the media is wrong, or I'm in possession of the laziest gun in the world.

The United States is 3rd in murders throughout the world. But if you take out just 5 'left-wing' cities: Chicago, Detroit, Washington DC, St Louis and New Orleans ? the United States is 4th from the bottom, in the ENTIRE world, for murders.

I wonder why that would be?

These 5 cities are controlled by Democrats.
They also have the toughest gun control laws in the USA.

It would be absurd to draw any conclusions from this data, right?

Well, I'm off to check on my spoons. I hear they're making people fat.

Seriously, there is a major difference between gun control, responsible gun ownership, and disarming all civilians. That is a red herring argument of the NRA. There is no slippery slope to a complete ban on all weapons in the gun control argument. It is just an acknowledgement that there are issues with the current system and can or should it be improved.

Someone leaving a gun laying on a table by their front door is exactly what is wrong with some gun owners. If you have weapons in your home, be responsible for them. I don't understand how anyone can get behind the idea of the original post. The only thing it shows is the gun owners irresponsibility and arrogance.

We've had people on KU claim to keep loaded weapons in their lap while driving around Kingwood. These are the people who should never be allowed to own guns and there are a lot of those types around the country, unfortunately.

I was in a road rage situation once involving a drunken Mexican in a pickup. You think I had time to stop the car, get it out of the trunk, load it, then have it ready?

Should I have said to the other driver, "Excuse me for five minutes while I arm myself against your irrational and violent behavior." 

There are two choices...be armed or be at the mercy of the armed.

Pretty common sense business.
