He was pinned down on the ground by two cops, while one shot FIVE rounds into him point blank.

Disgusting.

SoupIsGoodFood --- 8 years ago -

Most of them white folks.

Prolix Raconteur --- 8 years ago -

428 of them were white and virtually all of them were armed and confrontational while directly defying police orders. What's the point? Don't be a criminal and don't fight the cops. The guy in Baton Rouge had a lengthy rap sheet including assault, weapons and drug charges AND was reaching for a weapon.

Holling Vincoeur --- 8 years ago -

Culling the herd?

fuzz81 --- 8 years ago -

Souperman and prolix seem to care what color they are.

I'm more concerned that most of them are unarmed, and not a single cop had been convicted.

SleightOfHand --- 8 years ago -

Anyone who actually WATCHED the video and read the store owner's statements would know that this was a justified shooting. They told him to get onto the ground, he refuses. They deployed one tazer which didn't work. They deployed a second tazer which again didn't work. They wrestled the guy to the ground. He continued to resist. Officer yells out gun, they continue wrestling him. Officer discharges his weapon.

The store owners statements matched the video. The store owner also saw the police reach into the guy's pocket and pull out a gun. Explain where you find a problem with this. Hand guns don't always stop a threat on the first few shots, even at point blank range

SleightOfHand --- 8 years ago -

"I'm more concerned that most of them are unarmed, and not a single cop had been convicted. "

Who says they have to be armed?

Holling Vincoeur --- 8 years ago -

Kingwood is such a bubble...lol

a889324uu --- 8 years ago -

Anyone who actually WATCHED the video

You should try.

The world is a safer place now that you aren't a LEO anymore, that's for sure.

a889324uu --- 8 years ago -

This must be the "due process" everyone is always braying about.

Prolix Raconteur --- 8 years ago -

Souperman and prolix seem to care what color they are.

It bears repeating as the ongoing (false) narrative in leftist media is that scores of unarmed, peaceful black men are being gunned down for no reason on a daily basis by racist white cops with a license to kill. Which, of course, is total BS.

I'm more concerned that most of them are unarmed, and not a single cop had been convicted.

WRONG

I was about to say the same thing. You're bang on. This way of thinking needs to be weeded out.

It probably needs to start with training, and precedent needs to be set by actually holding these scum accountable.

SleightOfHand --- 8 years ago -

"You should try.

The world is a safer place now that you aren't a LEO anymore, that's for sure."

Here's the troll patrol. I've watched the video. I've read the witness statements released by the media. It's a clearly justified shooting. I haven't been wrong yet. Troll troll troll your boat Jams

a889324uu --- 8 years ago -

Here's the troll patrol

Yes, here you are.

You are wrong every time you open your suck. The world...it's safer without you in a position of power.
We appreciate you stepping down.

SleightOfHand --- 8 years ago -

"This way of thinking needs to be weeded out"

Exactly what way of thinking are you talking about? The man was armed with a pistol. He was reaching for it. Police located a pistol after he was killed. In fact, the police were there looking for a guy who reportedly point a gun at another person.

SleightOfHand --- 8 years ago -

"You are wrong every time you open your suck"

I've been correct on 100% of the in custody deaths so far. Try again

SleightOfHand --- 8 years ago -

"We appreciate you stepping down. "
Trust me, I enjoy it too. Love having weekends and holidays off

fuzz81 --- 8 years ago -

Exactly what way of thinking are you talking about?

Your immoral way of thinking.

SleightOfHand --- 8 years ago -

"Your immoral way of thinking. "

What is immoral about the way I think?

fuzz81 --- 8 years ago -

That shooting someone 5 times point blank while pinned down by two cops is "justified".

I get that cops can just say "I was scared" and automatically they're legally justified.

Legally justified does not mean morally justified.

a889324uu --- 8 years ago -

I've been correct on 100% of the in custody deaths so far

In your head, sure.

In reality, no.

But here are some facts and witness accounts for you:

The owner of the store said Sterling did not have a gun in his hand at the time but he saw officers remove a gun from Sterling?s pocket after the shooting.

Rep. Cedric Richmond, D-La., who called for the Department of Justice to investigate the killing, said officials claimed both officers had body cameras "but they fell off during the struggle and do not show the shooting." *convenient, isn't it?

East Baton Rouge Parish Coroner William "Beau" Clark said the initial results of an autopsy show that Sterling suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the chest and back, The Advocate reports.

The video you watched was a very short clip from a cell phone. The video from the store camera hasn't been released. Contrary to the imaginations in your head, you don't have any insider knowledge about this situation, and anything you say is strictly based on your opinion. Nothing more, nothing less.

Mufleh Alatiyat, a 25-year old employee of the store described Sterling as generous and said he often gave away CDs or petty cash or bought food or drink for some people.

Louisiana has very lax laws when it comes to guns. It is an open carry state. Alton having a weapon on him wasn't illegal.

AMDG --- 8 years ago -

I have a hard time believing that any police officer leaves the house in the morning looking for an opportunity to hurt/harass/kill anyone. My guess is their first objective is to get home, and do their job.

Let us not forget that this man's actions - using a gun to hold up a store was the only reason this confrontation happened.

We should be slow to judge the actions of the police - who are making life and death decisions often in matter of seconds, and in real time. While we have the luxury of hindsight and safety.

Think in cases like this it is prudent to wait some for better information and after the investigations are done before we jump to the conclusion that this was a case of police misconduct.

fuzz81 --- 8 years ago -

Why isn't the NRA coming to his defense for exercising his right to carry a gun?

Holling Vincoeur --- 8 years ago -

Watch out Texas...this is how it starts. Nickname it the Louisiana gun grab...shoot em first grab their guns later.

SleightOfHand --- 8 years ago -

"That shooting someone 5 times point blank while pinned down by two cops is "justified".

So it should be codified in law that the police can only shoot a person one time. They cannot continue shooting if the threat has not been stopped....

"I get that cops can just say "I was scared" and automatically they're legally justified.

Legally justified does not mean morally justified. "

But what is they were truly scared about getting shot by the gun he was reaching for. Is it immoral that they want to go home to their own families? They were there in regards to a man pointing a gun at someone else. They located the suspect and tried taking him into custody peacefully which quickly escalated to a point where the subject tried reaching for a gun to kill them. You think it is immoral to prevent themselves from being killed?

RayofHope --- 8 years ago -

It's sad when people want to focus on police shootings and ignore all the other murders committed. I guess they don't count.

SleightOfHand --- 8 years ago -

"you don't have any insider knowledge about this situation, and anything you say is strictly based on your opinion. Nothing more, nothing less. "

Read again noob, I never claimed to have insider information. Have you ever worn a hair clip? A bid can clips on using the same principle, they will dislodge in a scuffle, which was caught on video.

"The owner of the store said Sterling did not have a gun in his hand at the time but he saw officers remove a gun from Sterling?s pocket after the shooting."

Okay, did you read I wrote in the beginning? I already said they removed the gun from his pocket. In the words of Soup, I own you on this one

fuzz81 --- 8 years ago -

Are your bad cop senses tingling that tell you with complete certainty that he was in fact reaching for a gun? Oh no, wait, you're just assuming.

Holling Vincoeur --- 8 years ago -

I hope the nra does the right thing and comes out in support of gun rights....or you could be next.

Watch the video. One officer yells gun, the other officer then points his gun at the man and tells him not to move.

Maybe it's because Fuzz81 brought up the NRA defending the guy first and you rolled on with several more times like it was your original idea

Welcome to KU...are you policing the board now??

SleightOfHand --- 8 years ago -
