Riverwood has lost forty out of sixty teachers since the new principal arrived. We're not impressed with the teachers that are still there. Why is there so much teacher turnover at Riverwood?

Karras --- 8 years ago -

Maybe it has to do with the new principal.

Karras --- 8 years ago -

Maybe the teachers were tired of dealing with all the helicopter parents.

snowprincess --- 8 years ago -

What are your complaints about the teachers?

RayofHope --- 8 years ago -

The principal is the one who creates the environment. It can be hostile, non-supportive, unpleasant. If there is a morale problem who do you think it should fall on?

Actually, the super should step in and help the principal.

Retired drama teacher --- 8 years ago -

Also the largest group of teachers in the nation is now at retirement age.

Let Logic Prevail --- 8 years ago -

Maybe the teachers were tired of dealing with all the helicopter parents.

This would be my bet.

Are you sure about that number? I've been looking for a teaching job for 3 years and check the job postings often. I rarely see Riverwood jobs.

Judge Smails --- 8 years ago -

It's the principal not Kingwood parents.

The teachers have mostly moved to other schools in the district.

JR, several teachers have thrown that number out. I haven't personally watched the employment board but our kids all have newer teachers.

You aren't impressed with the teachers who are still there? Do you know all of them?

My kids have had one or two bad apples at RMS, but the majority of the teachers have gone above and beyond to help them learn. They are truly concerned about the students.

In your first post you ask "why" and in your next post you blame the principal. Do you know more than you are eluding to or trying to stir the pot?

Identity Crisis --- 8 years ago -

Some people just don't like change. Maybe the new principal is more structured or is pushing for a more progressive environment. I wouldn't want teachers that are unhappy and don't want to be there. That's never good for anyone, especially our children. New teachers bring new experience and current best practices to the classroom. They are energetic and excited to be there. We should embrace the ones who are there and show them our appreciation.

There needs to be more incentive for people to become teachers...my son thought about it but decided to use his college money to maximize his earning potential...

Gigix4 --- 8 years ago -

My thoughts are that you really have to WANT to be a teacher in order to put up with all the crap teachers put up with these days.

Just like firemen, policemen, nurses, etc., you must just want to be one. Seems all are so under-payed for the job they do for our communities. JMHO

Dorothy Parker --- 8 years ago -

Being a teacher is a calling....no one goes into it for the money. They go into it for the challenge, the hours and the benefits.

If 40 teachers leave a school at the same time; it's obvious there's an issue. That said, I highly doubt that happened at RMS. Kingwood teaching jobs are highly sought after, regardless of the principal.

TXbluebird --- 8 years ago -

Teacher turnover skyrocketed under the Colorado regime of our new supe, so I doubt she would be helpful. If the choice of the new band director is any indication, no wonder the teachers are leaving. The extremely qualified asst. director was passed over for an outsider not as well qualified.

Identity Crisis --- 8 years ago -

There no way that many teachers left...it would have made the news.

Judge Smails --- 8 years ago -

Nobody leaves a job because they're happy. And the argument that inexperienced teachers are somehow better than experience teachers is ignorant.
