Where would you suggest taking an out of town aunt for lunch? She is older, and not a foodie by any stretch, lol. I just wanted to take her someplace slightly more interesting than Luby's or Cracker Barrel , which are probably her favorite places to eat at when she is in her own hometown. This is her visit to Kingwood.

How about one of the places in Kings Harbor? When the weather is nice it is a nice change of pace. I am not sure which restaurant would appeal most to a older aunt though. Raffias? or that steak place? I have only eaten at the restaurants there a handful of times so cant really vouch much for the food.

Austin

Too bad cafe Dubois closed. That was the perfect place for older aunts to eat.
I agree with kings harbor. Not much else to choose from

Austin

Why not live in Austin instead of the incessant whining about Kingwood?

urabunchcats --- 8 years ago -

That would be GREAT!

Let start a GoFundMe account
to help move Fuzzy!

And while we are at it
let's help move all the LIBERALS!

To Canada!

If you do a gofundme for me and raise enough you'll never hear from me again...let me know.

If not sitting on the river for a meal, how about Union Kitchen? I also like the lake atmosphere of Cedar Landing, watching the boats in Huffman. But if she likes the atmosphere of Cracker Barrel then how about local Bill's Cafe, Skero's BBQ, The Humble Inn, or Humble City Cafe?

How is the food there these days? We used to go many, many years ago and they had wonderful all you can eat fried shrimp. They would bring a free basket of wonderful hush puppies before you even ordered your meal.

But I think the owners changed hands, Ike happened, and I had heard it went downhill. I would love to go back there for a good fried shrimp meal if it was as good as it once was!

Its been well over a year since we've been. But I think they have all you can eat Shrimp on Wed's? We were happy with the amount of shrimp on the plate from the menu. I used to go every year on my birthday just to sit outside and enjoy the water. We've changed it up these past years. I see they aren't open for lunch any more.

ETA Seriously good fried shrimp (and fried chicken) and Humble Inn on Old 1960.

I had heard it went downhill.

It is great again. My fave is the Shrimp Salad. On a pretty day or evening, the outside deck is also really beautiful.

Do not forget Zamitti's and Christopher's...imho

Nothing here. Try THE Woodlands instead: Kirbys, Perrys, Flemings, Del Friscos, Jaspers, Ruggles, Landrys, Trulucks, Amerigos, Robards, Cheesecake Factory, Hubbell & Hudson, Fogo de Chao...

Pretty much everything in THE Woodlands is better than anything in Kingwood. Unless you want fried chicken - then it's Kingwood for the win! Why is that?

them --- 8 years ago -

Why bother with the woodlands when Houston has the worlds best restaurants?

Rorschach --- 8 years ago -

Kingwood is Houston and Houston is ghetto, just ask your Mayor.

Cedar Landing is very good. Ate there yesterday. Crawfish were very tasty!

Was there a couple of weeks ago. The place seemed a lot cleaner and the food was good. Not a big salad eater but I enjoyed the one I got as the lettuce was crispy and cold. Catfish and shrimp were good.

We ended up at Zamitti's on the water. It wasn't my first choice, but she said she hadn't had a pizza in 10 years!

It was actually quite good and the service was great. It was a nice day so we sat outside and she thought Kingwood was so nice she wants to look at moving here.

Hahahaha. I may be in trouble now!

them --- 8 years ago -

That's awesome. They didn't find Kingwood too "ghetto"? LOL

TinktheSprite --- 8 years ago -

Glad your Aunt enjoyed her lunch. I like the restaurants on the lake. Zimitti's, not so much. Kingwood i s so beautiful this time of year!

I prefer to drive the 35 mins into Houston than the 35 mins to The Woodlands. There are so many non-chain food restaurants there that are so top notch delicious that never disappoint: Noobies, Beaver's, Natachee's, Just Mac, Star Pizza, Cyclone Anyala, Pink's, Hubcap Grill, to name jut a few. Even the chain restaurants seem to add their own personal touch often tasting far better than it's north-of-the -city stores that make it taste out of the can or out of the freezer
