As if we don't have enough problems breathing in mold spores, now we can get an unhealthy dose of chemicals.

LMFAO

TinktheSprite --- 6 years ago -

That or West Nile, Zika or a host of other great diseases that mosquitoes carry, I guess. You weigh it out. But not like you get a choice here I magine if your house looded and you have wet debris in your yard what a mosquito haven that would be?

Gigix4 --- 6 years ago -

Thanks for the update Tink. I just sprayed the entire yard yesterday with Cutter Back Yard Bug Killer "stuff". So far, I'm not inundated with skeeters or sod web-worm moths.
I guess that will only last a couple of days.

whatchamacallit --- 6 years ago -

Wow, how come it took so long?

SagaciousSighFiGurl (Mod) --- 6 years ago -

I haven't noticed the onslaught in my yard as I expected. Maybe it's a bit early. But the greenbelts are BAD. I hate both the skeeters and chemicals but with the standing water and debris everywhere, I guess we have to...

Didn't they use to come around and spray the neighborhoods with a truck on a routine schedule?

Didn't they use to come around and spray the neighborhoods with a truck on a routine schedule??

Now that you mention it, I haven't seen that being done at all, this summer. I wonder if they discontinued that service?

We are still getting it twice a week in GTV. Well we were before the flood haven't noticed after.

JuanSequin --- 6 years ago -

Are they more effective than the mosquito trucks? Haven't heard one at all this year. Anyone know what is in the spray?

The article says they're using dibrom. Scary stuff! I'm going to cover my fish pond.
All You Need To Know About Dibrom. http://www.wtv-zone.com/infchoice/naled.html

8080 --- 6 years ago -

The mosquito spray truck has been around our neighborhood once a week all summer. It passed by our home just yesterday.

JuanSequin --- 6 years ago -

I guess I should be glad i haven't seen the mosquito truck this summer. I'll stick with the lemongrass oil spray and build another bat house.

SagaciousSighFiGurl (Mod) --- 6 years ago -

Covering my fish pond too! Thanks to you Tink!
You have been a wealth of info during this whole Hurricane Harvey debacle.

TinktheSprite --- 6 years ago -

The more I read, the more I am not liking dibrom, the chemical used for aerial spraying. I guess we have no choice. I have waged my own war on mosquitoes and yard bugs, to the point where few anoles living in my yard. Sad but true. But at least I know what I putting down! I have Cuttered up my yard with the ingredients that poses low risk, tetramethrin. Just protecting myself today for what's about to come. BTW Dibrom can stay in the air for up to 4 days.

TinktheSprite --- 6 years ago -

Oh. This dibrom is harmful to bees. BEEs that are almost already endangered! And lake fish, trout and catfish, birds (esp geese), beneficial insects as well as The Swallowtail butterfly.

TinktheSprite --- 6 years ago -

Am I reading this correctly from the CDC? It will be Nuisance Mosquitoes they will be killing starting tonight, not Disease Mosquitoes
https://www.cdc.gov/zika/vector/mosquitoes-and-hurricanes.html??

voice of reason --- 6 years ago -

i wish they would not spray anything at all ever. it isn't good for humans, other living things, or the environment and in the long run does way more harm than good.

SagaciousSighFiGurl (Mod) --- 6 years ago -

I still have plenty of mosquitos in my yard this morning. :(

voice of reason --- 6 years ago -

did they come thru kingwood last night? i did not hear them.

SagaciousSighFiGurl (Mod) --- 6 years ago -

Yes they did.

txwareagle --- 6 years ago -

Its a shame that some reject science.

Get a couple of bottles of Cutter's Back Yard spray. I sprayed a couple of days ago and the skeeters are leaving me alone. That stuff works and easy to apply.

Unbelievable!!

Yeah, the Cutter is great and not toxic like whatever they sprayed. I cutter-ized my yard.

witchywoman --- 6 years ago -

I worked in the yard for a few hours today and not one mosquito so either they sprayed last night or I was just very lucky.

I know they were using a harsher chemical than the usual mosquito trucks that circulate....one that has been banned in Europe even. Too bad it doesn't kill fire ants. lol
