Why is it so hard for a family owned business to make it in Kingwood? Restaurants in particular?

who's talking here?

We don't mind supporting chain restaurants that treat us like crap, but as soon as we find out one family owned business did something wrong we judge them, threaten not to do business with them ever again, and list goes on.

Emperor of Kingwood --- 1 years ago -

Because in general they're not very good and have poor service.

TinktheSprite --- 1 years ago -

It's as simple as consistency. People will return to make a restaurant successful if a restaurant is consistent with service, food quality, food portions, offerings, etc. and meet the consumer's expectation. (Its the secret of chain restsurants) People, especially busy families, like to know what they are spending their hard earned money on before choosing where to eat.

I don't agree we immediately judge them and never go back. I prefer Mom and Pops bc in general you don't have the layers between you and who is serving you and management. They ARE you servers, your repairman etc.

Tink is right. If you do it right most of the time, people will come back. If you are treated well, it's like relationships in general, you wont leave.

Recently I used Sprockets for my bike repair and tune up. Awesome experience, reasonable and personalized attention. I will be going back.

That's what did in Tularosa (well, besides Mama Ninfa's curse LOL). Their food was actually pretty damned good every time I ate there. The service, on the other hand, was atrocious and totally unpredictable from visit to visit.

DVaz --- 1 years ago -

Uh, the ones that were here in the late 70's and early 80's are still here.

I like chains.

Mostly because of the unknown aspects of non-chains.

I am old - my position is based on TONS of bad experiences at non-chains.

I don't want to waste my money and end up not liking what I purchased.

I am risk adverse to a fault.

There is a brand new family owned baseball card shop business that just opened up in Kingwood (Triple Play Treasures) a couple weeks ago that could use some word of mouth. To say it is a "baseball" card shop is misleading because they also have a lot of sports memorabilia, collectible toys and even high end Barbie Dolls. They are located right behind Stein Mart (in the old "Children's Closet" spot) just down from the Escape Room and Elite Treats - two other family owned businesses that could use some local support. I too am an owner of a local business here in Kingwood and feel blessed by this community and always look to help other local businesses however I can.

Couldn't agree more, KWPCR!

I didn't know the Escape Room was here, I am gonna check that out!

When you order a Big Mac or a Whopper, you know exactly what you're getting. You may not be pleased with the 6 min interaction with your server but at least your burger will be exactly what you expected.

Loved the chili relleno at Tularosa. Loved the restaurant in general. Twice or 3 times I went there wanting a chili relleno. Twice or more, they were out of it. I ordered something else and was pleased. The wait staff was always nice about it. But what I really wanted was that chili relleno and did not get it. Eventually I knee I couldn't count on Tularosa to fill my expectation.

A new KW Taco Shop will be opening on Mills Branch soon. I hope they make it!

I'm not finding any listing for an Escape room here!

Is it not open yet??

I think the term "family owned business" is very different from "family owned restaurant."

There are hundreds of "family owned businesses" thriving in Kingwood. "Family owned restaurants", not so much.

Because they have great food, consistent service, and support the community. Every kid in Kingwood has had their first job at J Christopher's, Chelsea's, or Alspaugh's!!

Mine was delivering for Oriental Gardens, but yeah.

KWPCRepair, it must be the same spot where Legends Comics was in the 90's...
