Arrested yesterday. Same case http://htowntx.com/?p=609

Gigix4 --- 10 years ago -

Glad to see there was an arrest!

*LOL* --- 10 years ago -

Me too. Didn't say if there was motive. An 18 year old! Makes me sick.

UPDATE: Teen arrested in Kingwood murder
htowntx | September 19, 2014

A Kingwood teenager was arrested Friday for the Sept. 5 murder OF Barrett Shirley in Elm Grove, according to Harris County court records and crime records.

The suspect, Hunter Ryan Woods, 18, is charged with fatally shooting Shirley, 23, in the back at 5443 Garden Village Drive.

Woods address is listed as 3022 Evergreen Glade in Woodland Hills.

According to police, Shirley was visiting with friends at the home when he decided to retrieve something from his car which was parked in the driveway. At some point, a gunman shot Shirley once in his back.

Shirley then stumbled back into the home and died at the scene.

"The victim was in front of the residence at the above residence when he was shot," HPD Homicide Division Sergeant M. McStravick, Senior Police Ofiicer T. Andrade and Officer M. Arroyo reported. "He then ran inside the residence where he collapsed and was pronounced dead at the scene."

He was booked into Harris County Jail on $50,000 bond.

Gigix4 --- 10 years ago -

He was booked into Harris County Jail on $50,000 bond.

IMO ... bond should be a lot higher than that for MURDER!

RedMulch --- 10 years ago -

Evergreen Glade???? that is right down the street from me. OMG

mutton --- 10 years ago -

Am thankful they may have caught the person!

*LOL* --- 10 years ago -

I was thinking the same thing!

DVaz --- 10 years ago -

I got 30,000$ for simple drug possession w/ not even a speeding ticket to my name.

Is this a Capital offense... Possible death penalty?

cooterbooter --- 10 years ago -

Sure is stupid doing something like that so close to his home. He must have manure for brains.

Eclipse --- 10 years ago -

$50,000 bail, that's it?

For $5k he can bail out ...

Gigix4 --- 10 years ago -

Is this a Capital offense... Possible death penalty?

I would certainly think so.

*LOL* --- 10 years ago -

To be that cold blooded, to shoot someone in the back like an assassin, (if the reports are factual) then it just makes me think it wasn't his first rodeo either.

Gigix4 --- 10 years ago -

it just makes me think it wasn't his first rodeo either.

You're probably right.

napoleon --- 10 years ago -

the District Clerks site gives conflicting info if he is still in jail or not.

jefro --- 10 years ago -

Wow, creepy:
This looks like the suspects resume...

Kingwood Asylum --- 10 years ago -

So sad

The Sicilian --- 10 years ago -

Is this a Capital offense... Possible death penalty?

Nope, not unless he committed another felony (robery, kidnapping...) while doing the murder.

witchywoman --- 10 years ago -

Is that supposed to be a joke?

I hope the KU rocket scientist who claimed he was shot by a Mexican drug gang steps forward to self identify at this time.

FabFive --- 10 years ago -

Wait so you can shoot someone in the back out of the blue and not get the death penalty?

Perfection --- 10 years ago -

Yup.

My guess is the prosecutor knows the reason and it may not have been right out of the blue.

Who knows, the kid may roll over and take a plea deal

witchywoman --- 10 years ago -

Well of course there's a motive but that's neither here nor there. I agree with Fab Five though and shooting someone in the back seems like it should be a stiffer charge.

Perfection --- 10 years ago -

is he out on bail yet? $50G doesn't seem like much

Andromeda --- 10 years ago -

100 percent confirmed Hunter Woods is suspect. Sheds some light but not everything yet.
UPDATE: COURT DOCUMENT RELEASED IN KINGWOOD MURDER SUSPECT CASE

Davi --- 10 years ago -

Unless there is information not yet released, this would not be a Capital offense.
In order for it to be a Capital offense the murder would have to have occurred during the commission of another felony, or, multiple persons killed, or a child under the age of 9.
There are probably some elements I am missing, but that is pretty much what makes a murder Capital Murder.

DVaz --- 10 years ago -

So it's premeditated 1st Degree Murder then?

napoleon --- 10 years ago -

He is still in jail; has a court date tomorrow.

Jail Records

FANCY PANTS --- 10 years ago -

I hope he gets the death penalty. He shot the guy in the back. I would think Hunter Ryan Woods was not being threatened by Barrett Shirley.

It's not a death penalty case.

Shame that people get to where they think killing each other is the answer to whatever is going on.

Either way, two young men are gone now.

Killing someone should get said killer the death penalty. His life should be cut short unnaturally as well. If said killer knows that he may get the death penalty said killer may think twice about becoming a killer. But, because said killer knows the most that can happen to him is that he will go to jail where he will have 3 meals a day, activities, tv, AC, medical and much more for free..............well, It's just not much of an incentive to be good, is it?

For some, that security of prison is their home......... that's the environment they feel most comfortable.

FANCY PANTS --- 10 years ago -

What a shame for them. What you are saying is that they do not have the ambition to get off their @$$ and get what they need and want in a legal way? So, they commit crimes in order to get into jail because they do not want to have to be a good citizen?

What is going on in our peaceful community

DVaz --- 10 years ago -

What is going on in our peaceful community?

There were murders in Kingwood in the 80's & 90's too. Two elderly Kingwood Lakes residents were murdered during a robbery around 1985.

In 1992/93 some teen in Bear Branch shot his mom in the head and the religious nuts were trying to blame it on the lyrics of the heavy metal band Megadeth.

FamousMonster --- 10 years ago -

What is going on in our peaceful community?

It's growing. This is what happens to places that people like to live in. They grow. More people = More crime. This is not a new phenomenon.

Your question is silly.

Unfortunately, evil has EVERY market cornered, and it's in every race, religion, and class.
No neighborhood is without bad people doing bad things.

And believe it or not....that murder was over a drug deal gone bad. The couple's son was involved in a bad drug deal and the other kid murdered the parents over it.

Both were Kingwood kids.

Wow, thanks for the information. That story made me terrified of Burglars growing up. I hated open blinds for years. We lived on the same street and I was 4/5 @ the time.

Dorothy Parker --- 10 years ago -

Don't forget the teen in Hunters Ridge that killed his neighbor and her elderly mother for complaining about his dog barking.

He stabbed them to death in their home. :(

Four Pinocchios --- 10 years ago -

Also remember the young lady murdered at the Woodland Hills apartments in 2012.

DVaz --- 10 years ago -

Yeah, I was just pointing out that even really old Kingwood wasn't as safe as many thought. The mid-90's is when Kingwood's population really exploded. But there were murders long before Houston took us over!

Hell, in 1992 I was in 6th Grade and one of my older brother's best friends died playing Russian Roulette with his other close friends!
