Someone didn't get the Festivus present they were wishing for.

a889324uu --- 9 years ago -

Well, god works in mysterious ways, you know...

Emperor of Kingwood --- 9 years ago -

you only had to read two more chapters.

Genesis 5:4
The days of Adam after he fathered Seth were 800 years; and he had other sons and daughters.

a889324uu --- 9 years ago -

800 years

Cuckoo! Cuckoo!!

Emperor of Kingwood --- 9 years ago -

Since this predates the measurement of a year that we currently use, its cuckoo to assume we know how a year was measured at that time.

Prolix Raconteur --- 9 years ago -

I posit a scenario. Were another poster to start an obviously provocative and caustic thread about, say, Islam being a false religion much in the way Judas has yet again attacked Christianity for what can be perceived as no reason whatsoever, would he not attack the poster as a bigot/racist etc as he has done in the past?

Isn't that hypocrisy personified? Why the double standard?

If I'm wrong, by all means please post some anti-Islamic and anti-Jewish memes in the name of fairness and objectivity.

Not viewing this from any religious position; just making an observation.

RedMulch --- 9 years ago -

Cain and Abel were the headliners with the story to tell. Adam had lots of other kids. (Notice I didn't say Adam and Eve)

RedMulch --- 9 years ago -

800 yearsCuckoo! Cuckoo!!

Why not? They got lots of exercise and ate no fast food.

Judas Iscariot (died c. 30-33 AD) was, according to the New Testament, one of the twelve original disciples of Jesus Christ, and son of Simon Iscariot. He is known for the kiss and betrayal of Jesus to the Sanhedrin for thirty silver coins. His name is often used synonymously with betrayal or treason. He is sometimes confused with Jude Thaddeus.
Though there are varied accounts of his death, the traditional version sees him as having hanged himself following the betrayal. His place among the Twelve Apostles was later filled by Matthias.
Despite his notorious role in the Gospel narratives, Judas remains a controversial figure in Christian history. Judas' betrayal, for instance, is seen as setting in motion the events that led to Jesus' Crucifixion and Resurrection, which, according to traditional Christian theology, brought salvation to humanity. Gnostic texts ? rejected by the mainstream Church as heretical ? praise Judas for his role in triggering humanity's salvation, and view Judas as the best of the apostles.

Judas --- 9 years ago -

Genesis 5:4The days of Adam after he fathered Seth were 800 years; and he had other sons and daughters.

So Genesis predates the year yet they had the word for year. okey dokey
So Adam had other children, sons and daughters, so there was incest involved.

This is a good logical question and so far I haven't seen one believable response. Please point out where I am attacking christianity by the way.

Your sentiment regarding Christianity has been noted on previous threads. And the above posted meme certainly is not intended to endear oneself to the Christian faithful. Again, I'm not religious, so I don't really care. Just wondering why one religion appears to be singled out.

Judas --- 9 years ago -

Again, I'm not religious, so I don't really care.

Coulda fooled me. I'm not looking for endearment by the way.

Let's talk about a religion being singled out. We have legal holidays on christian holidays and others on jewish holidays. Where are the days off on Muslim holidays? That's what I call a religion being singled out

This is the face I make when someone quotes a part of the Bible that is totally unbelievable like it's some sort of fact.

logic --- 9 years ago -

Since this predates the measurement of a year that we currently use, its cuckoo to assume we know how a year was measured at that time.

A year was measured in the same way it is today. The effects of the flood and sin shortened the life span of people.

logic --- 9 years ago -

LOL. Says someone that believes in evtra terrestrials. There is nothing in the Bible that is unbelievable. Only people with a lack of understanding regarding the power of God.

Dr Aborto --- 9 years ago -

There is nothing in the Bible that is unbelievable.

Talking snakes
Unicorns
Living inside whales
Dead rising
Living for hundreds of years

I would like to believe that there's magic and that when my kids turn 11 they'll get a letter from Hogwarts but I know it's not gonna happen.

Prolix Raconteur --- 9 years ago -

America was founded on Christian values and an according constitution allowing religious freedom was implemented. As far as holidays go, I don't recall ever getting Chanukah off of school or work. According to a recent ABC poll, to this day 83% of Americans still consider themselves Christian, 13% have no religion and the remaining 4% comprise Muslims, Jews etc. In short, the established religious holidays revolved around the mass majority of US citizens fundamental beliefs and evolved thereof.

You still haven't answered my question as to why you constantly berate Christianity, appear to not have any religion, yet seem to consider Islam off limits?

You'll never get that answer.

Talking snakes

LOL, parrots can talk. Dogs talk, dolphins talk. Humans just can't understand them anymore.

Your list is ridiculous aborto. For instance, the Bible's use of the word unicorn isn't the same as your fantasy belief in what a unicorn is. And LOL, you don't believe that there are 2 of every animal? How do YOU think animals reproduce?

God created an entire universe. He can easily do any of the things in your list.

Dr Aborto --- 9 years ago -

LOL, parrots can talk.

They don't talk. They mimic. Far from holding a conversation or manipulating a girl into eating an apple.

As for the "2 of every animal". I was not referring to reproduction but more about having 2 of EVERY animal in existence on one boat.

Unicorns as we know them were mentioned in the Bible until the 1600 when someone had the bright idea to change the word to Ox.

Emperor of Kingwood --- 9 years ago -

So Genesis predates the year yet they had the word for year. okey dokey

Oh please. The word "year" is an English word derived from Latin and before that Greek. Since the Bible has been translate numerous times into numerous languages, English being one of the newer translations, it stands to reason that the translators would use familiar words.

DVaz --- 9 years ago -

Incest with their mother is the only explanation.

RedMulch --- 9 years ago -

The original language of the Bible was Aramaic. Then Hebrew, then Greek and so on.

If you guys are really interested you should read the book "The Lost Books of the Bible" and on a lighter note "Everything you ever wanted to know about the Bible"

Another good study is from the department of religious studies from the University of NC department chair. (I forget his name) 30 minute lecture sessions about Biblical and Christian history.

fuzz81 --- 9 years ago -

Oh look. It's intelligent people vs bible thumpers again.

Judas --- 9 years ago -

A year was measured in the same way it is today. The effects of the flood and sin shortened the life span of people.

But someone could live for 800 years. LOL

fuzz81 --- 9 years ago -

Yes, every time Houston floods it takes 10 years of lifespan from the human race. Makes perfect sense.

Judas --- 9 years ago -

America was founded for, among other things, the right to worship as you so choose. Parts of the country with a large population of jews have off for jew holidays. Just because YOU never heard of it does not make it false. Not surpriseing that Texas does not oblige it's jews. In short, your summation is therefore incorrect.

In the near future there will be more Muslims in the world than any other religion. You want to attack them you go right ahead. As it stands it's the local fundies that are illogical and annoy me.

Oh look. It's intelligent people vs bible thumpers again.

Talking snakesUnicornsLiving inside whalesDead risingLiving for hundreds of years2 of every animals

You forgot self exploding bushes, the threat of talking rocks, parting of an entire sea, a guy with long hair riding a horse and getting it tangled in a tree and dying, etc.

But I think there really are two of every animal.

Emperor of Kingwood --- 9 years ago -

The original language of the Bible was Aramaic.

That's partially true. The old testament was originally written in Hebrew with some Aramaic. The New Testament was written in Greek, although some believe Aramaic as well.

AMDG --- 9 years ago -

Yet again, very few of the worlds Christians believe in a literal bible. If the point of your post is to show them you consider their beliefs to be foolish. Well done then, and rest well tonight in your own self righteous belief in your superiority.

Emperor of Kingwood --- 9 years ago -

I wonder why people spend so much time and energy trying to denigrate something they don't believe or even understand. Could it be jealousy?

logic --- 9 years ago -

They don't talk.

They speak words. That's talking. Get a clue.

As for the "2 of every animal". I was not referring to reproduction but more about having 2 of VERY animal in existence on one boat.

LOL, the Bible doesn't say 2 of EVERY animal in existence on one boat. Maybe you should do some personal reading before making false statements.

Unicorns as we know them were mentioned in the Bible until the 1600

False. Oxen weren't refereed to as unicorns until the Bible was translated to English in the early 16th century.

logic --- 9 years ago -

The original language of the Bible was Aramaic.

False. Aramaic wasn't even a language when most of the Old Testament was given by God to the Hebrews.

Yet again, very few of the worlds Christians believe in a literal bible.

If they don't believe in a literal Bible, then they aren't really Christians.

AMDG --- 9 years ago -

How about I amend it to, many who consider themselves Christians do not believe in a literal bible. And I am about as concerned about your judgement of my beliefs as I am of judas's.

SoupIsGoodFood --- 9 years ago -

Meme troll by Judy.

logic --- 9 years ago -

And I am about as concerned about your judgement of my beliefs as I am of judas's.

I'm not judging your beliefs. God has already done that. I'm just stating a fact.

God does not lie. God is truth. Literal means truth. The use of figurative language that conveys a literal truth does not mean that the Bible is not the literal truth. Words without literal meanings would make the use of figurative language meaningless. Sad that you don't understand that concept. The Holy Spirit will help you with that if you will listen to Him.
