Emperor of Kingwood --- 7 years ago -

Former Liberal Member of Parliament Dan McTeague, who now heads the petroleum industry watchdog GasBuddy.com, told CBC News that Vancouver has the dubious honor of having the highest gas prices anywhere in North America, from Alaska to Mexico.

Although McTeague says the price spike has its roots in a low Canadian dollar and refinery breakdowns, Vancouver was one of the first cities in Canada to proudly unveil a carbon tax that has continued to escalate year after year. McTeague recently told Vancouver radio station News 1130 that taxes on gas sold in B.C. account for 50 cents of every liter, which is the highest energy taxes in North America.

The province of B.C. is also in an energy war with neighboring Alberta over the construction of the Kinder Morgan Trans Mountain pipeline, something environmental activists and the B.C. government oppose. In retaliation, Alberta introduced legislation last week to restrict oil and gas exports to B.C. that will push up prices even more.

You?re obviously very well travelled

SoupIsGoodFood --- 7 years ago -

What's that all aboot?

SagaciousSighFiGurl (Mod) --- 7 years ago -

"...very well traveled"

Nah. But I don't count trips from drugs or fantasy internet characters as real trips. Lol!

jackass --- 7 years ago -

I love Vancouver. Awesome city. It?s like you?ve been abducted by aliens and taken to a place thats what the aliens think America is like.

Butterbean --- 7 years ago -

Yup.

Kyobungee --- 7 years ago -

Well this is a good thing. Forced people to stop polluting, and climate change damage. Plus the extra money can be used to help those that need it. It truly is a win-win for everyone.

SagaciousSighFiGurl (Mod) --- 7 years ago -

How about the affordability to the average person of a staple like gasoline?

Nothing good about it.

fuzz81 --- 7 years ago -

Lol. Vancouver is not texas. They can afford it

SagaciousSighFiGurl (Mod) --- 7 years ago -

So you're speaking for everyone now? Lol.

fuzz81 --- 7 years ago -

You sure seem to be. A tiny apartment costs millions in Vancouver. Most of them enjoy public transportation, walking, biking and outdoors. Ask them how much they care about gas prices. It?s not texas.

Texas: you get what you pay for

?These are the highest prices that we have ever seen here in Vancouver,? he said. ?We?re into uncharted territory here and extremely expensive for pretty much everyone.?

LOL. Fail

fuzz81 --- 7 years ago -

Btw BC liberals are a center-right Conservative party. The provincial government is NDP, and the people voted for them to reduce emissions.

Prolix Raconteur --- 7 years ago -

?We?re into uncharted territory here and extremely expensive for pretty much everyone.?

Such humble commentary from the land of zillionaires HAHHAHAHA...

fuzz81 --- 7 years ago -

Fail? The opposition party made a statement that gas prices are high. The people voted them out.

jackass --- 7 years ago -

Gas is actually about 4.79 there

Butterbean --- 7 years ago -

Gas prices in the UK were around $5/gal when I first visited more than 30 years ago.

At the time, I stated to all that would listen, that I thought US taxes on gasoline needed to at least double, with the infrastructure starting to deteriorate. The funds are still needed to restore millions of highways and bridges to a safer condition. Gasoline taxes are, IMO, a direct way to fund those improvements.

Edited to include: Gas price in the UK is about $10/gal. today.

AwesomeTattooedDragon --- 7 years ago -

Gas is going up here, too- pushing $4.00, in the East-

jackass --- 7 years ago -

Amsterdam has the highest gas price around 6.50 American

And they?re some of the happiest people on the planet

SoupIsGoodFood --- 7 years ago -
