Agree with it or not, it's good to stay informed. This is what will take into affect 6 months after the bill was signed, which is tomorrow.

CNN: Health Reform 6 Months Later

Dr Aborto --- 14 years ago -

Here are the bullet points (click link for more details):

• Coverage expansion for adult dependents until age 26
• Children no longer denied coverage for pre-existing conditions
• Prohibit insurers from rescinding coverage
• Free Preventive Care
• No lifetime limits on coverage
• Unrestricted doctor choice
• Level charges for emergency services
• Patient-friendly appeals process

Sounds awesome - too bad we can't afford it

In AbsentiaW --- 14 years ago -

Now what is bad about all those things?

I'm sure this thread will provoke all sorts of nasty comments and criticism.

"Sounds awesome - too bad we can't
afford it"

Waiting to see what our premiums will be for next year. A few things are possibly going to be dropped...depends.
We can't afford not to "afford it"!

adam (Wizard) --- 14 years ago -

Got our new health insurance policy in the mail this week. My premiums went up 23%.

~sassy~ --- 14 years ago -

I'm sure this thread will provoke all sorts of nasty comments and criticism.

Not on my part. I have no doubt it will be repealed when common sense Conservatives repeal the bill and come up with something more affordable.

This isn't utopia USA - it's reality-ville USA - and just because we want something - even NEED something, doesn't mean we can afford it ;)

~sassy~ --- 14 years ago -

Got our new health insurance policy in the mail this week. My premiums went up 23%.

Ours went up as well. I know of no one who hasn't had an increase, and this is only the beginning.

wayward1 --- 14 years ago -

I've had an increase for the past 6 years. Maybe UnitedHealthcare has a crystal ball.

~sassy~ --- 14 years ago -

We can't afford not to "afford it"!

Nice talking points. Cracking down on millions of illegals tapping into our system might pave inroads to more affordable care for our poor, but that aside, we already had medicaid and medicare.

Aborto, do you REALLY believe services will go up and costs go down?

~sassy~ --- 14 years ago -

I've had an increase for the past 6 years.

OUCH!

SoupIsGoodFood --- 14 years ago -

Now what is bad about all those things?

All of those things sound great.

A unicorn that poops Skittles sounds great, too.

Best post of the day:)

Dr Aborto --- 14 years ago -

Aborto, do you REALLY believe services will go up and costs go down?

I believe more people will have access to insurance. Premiums have always been going up. Nothing new. I think our insurance renews in November so I'll let you know how much it went up. I pay about $40 every 2 weeks for my insurance so a 23% jump would make it go up to $49. OMG, how can I feed my kids!?!?!?!?

Dr Aborto --- 14 years ago -

A unicorn that poops Skittles sounds great, too.

That doesn't take into affect until 5 years after bill was signed ;)

SoupIsGoodFood --- 14 years ago -

Whew! Ok then. Just as long as I get my unicorn.

Here a related HC question:

If this is such a great thing. Why aren't the Democrats up for election campaigning on this Health Care bill?

Dr Aborto --- 14 years ago -

Aborto, do you REALLY believe services will go up and costs go down?

To answer your question. Yes, more people having insurance will increase services. Costs will go up, but I think will eventually level out and even go down when the insurance exchange occurs and everyone will need to carry insurance in a couple years.

~sassy~ --- 14 years ago -

I pay about $40 every 2 weeks for my insurance so a 23% jump would make it go up to $49. OMG, how can I feed my kids!?!?!?!?

How do you only pay 40.00 every two weeks for insurance? I guess you get what you pay for, but I had no clue there were plans that cheap out there. If that's the case, we don't need reform. lol

Ours is the best money can buy and thankfully dh's employer picks up the majority of it - BUT we still pay a decent fee.

With BO BO care we are in jeopardy of losing this. As I said, we already have medicare and medicaid - and free clinics galore. Bo should have lowered the requirement for getting on these programs and simply raised taxes on the rest of us to offset the cost.

Now he's dragging - or trying to - the whole damn nation into the frey.

Tax me to take care of those who need it but leave MY health care alone.

SoupIsGoodFood --- 14 years ago -

I pay about $40 every 2 weeks for my insurance so a 23% jump would make it go up to $49. OMG, how can I feed my kids!?!?!?!?

How about someone who pays $850/month for insurance to cover their family? 23% increase is about $195/month.

Dr Aborto --- 14 years ago -

Why aren't the Democrats up for election campaigning on this Health Care bill?

They might be outside of TX. Most ads are usually about pointing out why your opponent is bad for the state. Obama will definitely make it one of his accomplishments when he runs in '12.

adam (Wizard) --- 14 years ago -

I pay about $40 every 2 weeks for my insurance

Who pays the rest for you?

SoupIsGoodFood --- 14 years ago -

Obama will definitely make it one of his accomplishments when he runs in '12.

I hope he does. Should make for an easy GOP win.

Dr Aborto --- 14 years ago -

If that's the case, we don't need reform

I get it through my work and it's only for me. My kids are on my wife's plan. The Health Care Reform Bill is mostly for people who's work doesn't offer it OR who have been denied in the past.

txdaddy --- 14 years ago -

I pay about $40 every 2 weeks for my insurance

WOW. I pay $162.30 every two weeks for medical, dental, and vision. it is the best available to me, but still...$40 every two weeks?

so that would be another $75 a month for me. yea yea yea.

can't wait to see the enrollment options in october.

txdaddy --- 14 years ago -

I get it through my work and it's only for me. My kids are on my wife's plan.

then you were being misleading.

~sassy~ --- 14 years ago -

The Health Care Reform Bill is mostly for people who's work doesn't offer it OR who have been denied in the past.

The health care reform bill is get those of us who HAVE insurance to pay for those who can not - or will not pay for their own. lol

Dr Aborto --- 14 years ago -

WOW. I pay $162.30 every two weeks for medical, dental, and vision. it is the best available to me, but still...$40 every two weeks?

$40 was not for my dental. I don't have vision.

Dr Aborto --- 14 years ago -

then you were being misleading.

How is that? I said, "I pay".

txdaddy --- 14 years ago -

$40 was not for my dental. I don't have vision.

how can you not count dental as part of your health insurance?

txdaddy --- 14 years ago -

How is that? I said, "I pay".

gee i dunno. seems as though everyone on here was surprised at that number. but fair enough, if you do not think that most would infer that you meant for your entire family then you are right. most people who have a family do not quote their insurance costs as a single insurer.

~ MARY C ~ --- 14 years ago -

Most insurance is not that cheap, aborto and 23% would be a pretty good hike!

Dr Aborto --- 14 years ago -

how can you not count dental as part of your health insurance?

Because it's separate. I have different providers for Health and Dental. We are talking about "Health Care Reform" which doesn't include dental.

~sassy~ --- 14 years ago -

The Health Care Reform Bill is mostly for people who's work doesn't offer it OR who have been denied in the past.

You don't really believe this do you?

txdaddy --- 14 years ago -

Because it's separate. I have different providers for Health and Dental. We are talking about "Health Care Reform" which doesn't include dental.

wow. again, wow. so you do not consider dental as part of YOUR health care? you were actually talking about what you paid for health care as well.

SoupIsGoodFood --- 14 years ago -

Dr. What is YOUR total cost for insuring you ENTIRE family?

By YOUR, I mean not just what YOU pay, but what is the total combined cost that both YOU and YOUR wife pay to insure your ENTIRE family?

Dr Aborto --- 14 years ago -

so you do not consider dental as part of YOUR health care?

Nope. Dental and Vision are different monster. You even separated by saying "I pay $162.30 every two weeks for medical, dental, and vision."

Dr Aborto --- 14 years ago -

Dr. What is YOUR total cost for insuring you ENTIRE family?

Stand by, I'll get the numbers from my wife.

ukchristine --- 14 years ago -

Dr. Aborto
I pay about $40 every 2 weeks for my insurance so a 23% jump would make it go up to $49.

WOW that is a very good price. What do you get for that? More importantly could you share the details of the insurance company please?

gambit --- 14 years ago -

Im so glad mr. Obama finally fixed the system. this will help us so much.

txdaddy --- 14 years ago -

Nope. Dental and Vision are different monster. You even separated by saying "I pay $162.30 every two weeks for medical, dental, and vision."

yes aborto. you are right. that makes total sense that you only consider the medical coverage as what you pay for health care. oh, and that you do not consider the rest of your family as well.

SoupIsGoodFood --- 14 years ago -

I assumed when we were discussing health care costs, we were talking about entire costs for our entire families, not just cost for one specific service for one specific family member.
