11 of the 12 footballs were under inflated by 2 pounds

freebyrdll --- 10 years ago -

Jake.... where ya been???

Bor King of Asgard --- 10 years ago -

That doesn't surprise me. I have always hated the Patriots. Tom Brady is such a crybaby. Every time something doesn't go his way he sits on the sidelines whimpering like a baby with his head in his hands.

whatchamacallit --- 10 years ago -

he sits on the sidelines whimpering like a baby with his head in his hands.?

Yes, he is the Boehner of football.

TinktheSprite --- 10 years ago -

What will happen now?

ThisLady --- 10 years ago -

The ending of that game totally bummed me out! I really like the Packers.

If it is true, what will happen?

Bor King of Asgard --- 10 years ago -

I found this -
Did the New England Patriots have an unfair advantage during their blowout win over the Indianapolis Colts in the AFC Championship game on Sunday?

The NFL is investigating whether the Patriots used under-inflated balls during their rain-soaked victory.

NFL spokesman Michael Signora told the league?s website that officials are looking into the matter after Bob Kravitz of WTHR-TV in Indianapolis reported that officials during the game took a ball out of play at one point and weighed it. It?s unknown if the ball was underweight. All game balls must be inflated with 12.5 to 13.5 pounds of air pressure, according to NFL rules.

Patriots coach Bill Belichick told reporters Monday the team ?will cooperate fully? with the NFL?s investigation.

The NFL rulebook states that each team must provide 12 balls to the referee for testing before the game. Home teams ultimately are responsible for having the balls available at all times. The rules also state that the offensive team?s center can request a ?playable ball? in the case of a ?wet, muddy or slippery field.?

An under-inflated ball could make it easier to throw and catch, especially in the slippery conditions that were present in Sunday?s rainy game at Gillette Stadium.

According to Kravitz, if the NFL concludes that the Patriots used under-inflated balls, it could cost the team draft picks. The team and members of the coaching staff also could be fined.

Patriots quarterback Tom Brady laughed off the allegation Monday during his weekly radio appearance on WEEI-FM in Boston, calling it ?ridiculous.?

?That?s the last of my worries,? he said. ?I don?t even respond to stuff like this.?

Brady passed for 226 yards and three touchdowns in the Patriots? 45-7 win. Colts quarterback Andrew Luck struggled, throwing two interceptions.

This isn?t the first time this postseason that the Patriots have been the subject of a response by league officials. Baltimore Ravens Coach John Harbaugh accused the team of using ?deceptive? formations in the Patriots? AFC divisional playoff win. The NFL disagreed, with Signora saying the Patriots ?did everything legal from a formation and reporting standpoint.?

In 2007, Belichick was fined $500,000 when the league determined the team illegally filmed the hand signals of New York Jets coaches in the season opener. The Patriots also lost a first-round draft pick and were fined $250,000.

This one is from ABC news -
The New England Patriots had 11 of their 12 allotted game footballs under-inflated by 2 pounds of air (PSI) less than what's required by NFL regulations, according to league sources either involved or familiar with the investigation of Sunday's AFC championship game when the Patriots beat the Colts 45-7 to advance to their sixth Super Bowl.

"We are not commenting at this time," said Greg Aiello, the NFL's senior vice president of communications.

Troy Vincent, the league's senior executive vice president of football operations, told ProFootballTalk.com earlier Tuesday that the NFL expected to wrap up its investigation in "two or three days."

Yet to be determined is what, if any, penalties may be imposed upon Patriots. One source described the league as "disappointed ... angry ... distraught," after spending considerable time on the findings earlier Tuesday.

Part of the investigation that still needs further vetting is how the 11 footballs became under-inflated. The game balls provided to each team for preparation were required to be inspected and approved by referee Walt Anderson two hours and 15 minutes before kickoff before they were returned to each team. No alteration of footballs is allowed once they are approved, under league rules and regulations.

The balls are required be inflated between 12.5 and 13.5 pounds per square inch and weigh between 14 and 15 ounces.

"We have been in complete cooperation with the league and will continue to do so," said Patriots spokesman Stacey James.

If they find it to be true they probably will only suffer monetary fines.

TinktheSprite --- 10 years ago -

So the Patriots get to the Super Bowl by cheating and they only get monetary fines?

jacobson --- 10 years ago -

If they find it to be true they probably will only suffer monetary fines.

They probably will also lose some draft picks.

Bor King of Asgard --- 10 years ago -

Jacobson is right about that also. Wish they would have to forfeit the title and not go to the Superbowl.

random-thought --- 10 years ago -

If this was noticed after an int by a player on the colts, I find it hard to believe the refs didn't notice when placing the ball on the field. Multiple refs would have touched them by that point

Four Pinocchios --- 10 years ago -

They might lose some draft picks

Perfection --- 10 years ago -

Nothing of consequence will happen, a few dollars and draft picks.

The players still will get their bonuses, they will still get their rings and be able to say they won and in a few years no one will care.

Love the Boston CHEAT TO WIN attitude.

Since there are no consequences there are no disincentives to it.

Bor King of Asgard --- 10 years ago -

Love the Boston CHEAT TO WIN attitude.

Since there are no consequences there are no disincentives to it.?

And when you have Tom Brady, the cheater in his personal life and professional life as your leader they think they can do no wrong. It's sad to have cheater and Patriot in the same sentence.

Perfection --- 10 years ago -

He has always stated he prefers deflated balls.

The coach is so competitive and smart, he uses the rule book to his advantage - he could win without cheating but when he crosses the line everyone loses.

Bor King of Asgard --- 10 years ago -

- he could win without cheating but when he crosses the line everyone loses.?
That is a fair statement, that you could apply to things in everyday life.

Work in Progress --- 10 years ago -

Could that be explained by filling the balls inside at one temperature, then bringing them outside to a much lower temp?

That is it good queation. I will Google that and see what I can't come up with.

Work in Progress --- 10 years ago -

Ok, according to a meteorologist I googled, every 10 degree drop in temp can mean a 1 psi drop, which is not enough to account for the discrepancy. It was 52 degrees at game time.

AwesomeTattooedDragon --- 10 years ago -

I doesn't understand- doesn't the other team get the ball when there's a turn over? Do they switch the ball out? That makes no sense- why not use the same ball, and only change out when absolutely necessary?

satsuma --- 10 years ago -

What do the NE Patriots and The European Central Bank have in common?

They're both worried about deflation!

Work in Progress --- 10 years ago -

Lol sat!!!

Bor King of Asgard --- 10 years ago -

The home team must bring at least 12 balls for the game.

AwesomeTattooedDragon --- 10 years ago -

For everyone to use?

voice of reason --- 10 years ago -

LOL, it looks like the Patriots cheated again.

looks like lynchie pooh regurgitated faux's false arguments yet again. bahahahahaha

new england patriots haters, please, you're just embarrassing yourselves at this point. it's like this, before every game each team gives the officials 12 balls, which are inspected and marked. before every play it is a league official that is placing the ball on the field at the line of scrimmage. the officials are in charge of the balls, if a ball was under inflated blame the officials NOT the patriots.

exactly what do you think was happening, do you think that the pats have devised some instrument that the center sneaks onto the field that lets the exact amount of air out of the ball, because to under inflated would suck too, then somehow the receiver puts the air back in, because, like I said the n.f.l. official handles the ball between plays and you know damn well they would know if the ball was to light, it is their job after all!

AwesomeTattooedDragon --- 10 years ago -

I have to agree with VOR- how is that possible?

Prolix Raconteur --- 10 years ago -

Try to keep up VOR. The NFL already ruled the that the balls were under-inflated. Now they have to determine how it was pulled off.

aragon --- 10 years ago -

I wish I could force myself to give a damn about this kind of stuff.

Makes small talk easier at the "water cooler"

jacobson --- 10 years ago -

I have to agree with VOR

Major mistake.

Each team uses there own balls when on offense. No need to put the air back in.

do you think that the pats have devised some instrument that the center sneaks onto the field that lets the exact amount of air out of the ball

LOL, that "instrument" was devised a long time ago. It's called an "inflating needle" which will also let air out of balls.

you know damn well they would know if the ball was to light, it is their job after all!

LOL, if the officials could easily know the psi by holding the ball, then there would be no need to officially measure it.

WOuld be very hard to explain why the Colts balls were not deflated then

voice of reason --- 10 years ago -

lynchie pooh you are so full poo. you make it up as you go along. bahahahaha

Perfection --- 10 years ago -

Not that hard to do.

The balls are measured/weighed 2 hours before game time then given back to the teams on the honor system.

Guess we see who has no honor

jacobson --- 10 years ago -

ynchie pooh you are so full poo. you make it up as you go along. bahahahaha?

LOL, John gets your goat even when he's not posting.

Patriots coach Bill Belichick told reporters Monday the team ?will cooperate fully? with the NFL?s investigation.

Anyone else just see Belichick's news conference?
Sounded to me like football pressure is the least of his concerns but it will be in the future. IDK

As a head coach, I would think he should be concerned with all aspects of the rules and guidelines of the game especially with what is at stake for the team right now.

FNHO --- 10 years ago -

LOL. Coaches aren't responsible for ball psi.

Even Luck said no problem.

Refs approved and Colts got hammered. Over!

voice of reason --- 10 years ago -

jacob lynch, you are not one of god's children. you weren't even adopted by him.

this is because your goal in life is to sit on k.u. 24-7 and attack any one and every one you can due to their faith beliefs and every other dang belief they have on any topic ever.

Adam Schefter Reports NFL Struggling to Find Evidence

struggle to find evidence

Hiro Protagonist --- 10 years ago -

What seems the most likely scenario to me is that the Patriots gave the ref under inflated balls at the start of the game and the ref gave a cursory inspection and rubber stamped them. I know the refs say they were inspected, but who's to say that they were actually thorough about it? It seems much more likely than getting the balls back and deflating them.
