Amazon's CEO is the richest person in the world and and makes $230,000 a minute?roughly four times what the average American worker makes in a year. Meanwhile, thousands of Amazon employees rely on public assistance to make ends meet. How absurd is that? This is why we must keep fighting for a just distribution of wealth and for an economy that allows working families to thrive. BERNIE S.

Emperor of Kingwood --- 7 years ago -

This is why we must keep fighting for a just distribution of wealth and for an economy that allows working families to thrive.

Here's a just distribution of wealth. Your earning potential is directly proportional to how well you've prepared yourself for the employment market.

Its not my fault or the governments fault that any person chooses to do drugs instead of go to school.

Its not my fault or the governments fault that any person chooses to drop our of high school.

Its not my fault or the governments fault that any person chooses not to go to college or trade school.

Its not my fault or the governments fault that any person chooses to graduate with an art history degree, tons of debt and then can't find a job other than minimum wage.

Its not my fault or the governments fault that any person chooses sex over education.

Its not my fault or the governments fault that any person chooses to waste their formative time.

Don't come whining to me now that you can't find anything other than a minimum wage job and your jealous of those that have succeeded.

Joe Blow --- 7 years ago -

Way more to it than that. Besides it doesn't even come close to addressing the Amazon CEO situation. Yawn and Typical.

jackass --- 7 years ago -

Easy to choose both...

SagaciousSighFiGurl (Mod) --- 7 years ago -

Why don't YOU start a fund and donate your money to your cause? Or start a training program for billionaires to train them in how you think they should spend their money.

Greed will always be a human condition. That doesn't mean anyone is suppose to "distribute" their wealth to anyone else. That sure takes a lot of nerve. And a lot of something else if you can't even recognize it. LOL

jackass --- 7 years ago -

it?s not about redistribution of wealth as much as it is a massive wage gap. The rich don?t recognize ?can vs should?....

Joe Blow --- 7 years ago -

Amazon CEO pays himself $230,000 per MINUTE and their workers can't afford to put food on the table because he refuses to give them a raise. Yet the cult continue to defend this type of sick, selfish behavior.

SMH and RME.

urabunchcats --- 7 years ago -

Do something about it!

Joe please start your own business
(and all you other liberals)
and pay your employees
anything you want.

jackass --- 7 years ago -

I?m not exactly a liberal but I did that...and I do pay them what?s right. Keep on worshipping your phony ?job creators? who create jobs but would rather not.

Edited to add: if you start a business and hire people but you can?t afford to pay them properly then your business is failing. And you are too.

Emperor of Kingwood --- 7 years ago -

Yet the cult continue to defend this type of sick, selfish behavior.

Its called freedom and capitalism. The bedrock concepts of this nations founding.

Emperor of Kingwood --- 7 years ago -

pay them properly

Pay is determined by market forces. In other words, those who smoked dope all the way through high school and now can't find higher paying employment are a dime a dozen. Contrast that to the person who went to welding school, perfected their craft, became good at it and now makes about 90K.

In my business I make the most because I supply the building and materials. I looked at what the market was paying people in the same business and decided I could pay 20% higher. After 2016 business increased almost 60% and my people reaped that reward, my pay stayed the same. If they weren?t there doing the work then I wouldn?t be in business. They?re happy, I?m happy and so it goes....simple and fair.

fuzz81 --- 7 years ago -

Easy to choose both...?

KU has neither

Hiro Protagonist --- 7 years ago -

If a company has profits that large, shouldn't more of that profit be spread out among the employees? No one is saying a janitor should get paid the same as a CEO, but more of the money should be seen by the employees. They're are a part of a companies success as well. This is why wages are stagnant and why even after corporate tax cuts, money is still not going to wages.

The American worker is just a cog that is paid as little as possible by corporate america. The death of unions has resulted in workers just getting the tiniest piece of the pie as possible. Corporate profits and worker productivity have been huge for 30 + years, and workers aren't seeing any of it. It's disgusting.

Emperor of Kingwood --- 7 years ago -

No. Profit belongs to the share holders.

Emperor of Kingwood --- 7 years ago -

The pie isn't owned by the workers. Its owned by the share holders.

Emperor of Kingwood --- 7 years ago -

Not even close. Its about supply and demand.

jackass --- 7 years ago -

Good companies remind the shareholders that investing in the best employees benefits their long term commitment...hence me paying 20% more than other companies pay for the same work. I have the best people in the area. We do the best job.

Emperor of Kingwood --- 7 years ago -

Only to the extent your competition does the same.

Hiro Protagonist --- 7 years ago -

Only to the extent your competition does the same.?

Which they're all in tacit agreement to keep wages artificially low when compared to company revenue and profits.

Eventually when inequity gets high enough you have one of two things.......massive labor strikes and organization or flat out overthrowing of the oligarchy. When people get too angry at the landed gentry you end up with the french revolution or the bolshevik uprising in Russia.

Emperor of Kingwood --- 7 years ago -

Do you really think companies get together and conspire to keep workers wages low? They don't. Its pure supply and demand.

Hiro Protagonist --- 7 years ago -

It's about allocation of funds and revenue not "ownership." There is no good reason with massive profits to stagnate wages, and keep allocating more and more money to executives only.

Hiro Protagonist --- 7 years ago -

They don't need to agree they just know that people need to work, and will accept lower than what they should be getting because it is the same across the board. Enough to live on is better than nothing. Most people spend their entire lives getting just enough to get by, even though the places they work for could pay them enough to be comfortable and not effect their bottom lines.

jackass --- 7 years ago -

Exactly. But greed is king. And then there?s the people who believe decade after decade that it will eventually trickle down to them...it never has and never will.

Emperor of Kingwood --- 7 years ago -

That's probably true, but the main difference between the French and Russian situations was that it was anger at the government establishment (Obsequium Nobilis) and not so much private industry.

Hiro Protagonist --- 7 years ago -

Whether you want to see it or not, this country is quickly becoming a caste society. England has always had the aristocratic and working class, and now we are following suit. The upper class go to different schools, slide right into higher paying jobs and everyone stays in their place. Even higher education which was once the lever used to pry a way into the upper class has been mostly removed. For a regular working class person to get a higher education they're paying back 150k of loans, so it keeps them from stepping out of their caste.

Hiro Protagonist --- 7 years ago -

Very true. Here however, the gov't doesn't hold the reins. The anger gets directed at whoever is holding the purse strings.

Yes, but the difference is that in this country you can change your social status via various methods. Your not limited by your birth status. If you want to go to college there are multiple ways to do so for those who are so motivated.

Hiro Protagonist --- 7 years ago -

But is it even worth it anymore? The cost is so high and the value is deflated. If you had a business degree from a marginally respected school you used to be practically assured to have a nice high paying management position, now you're lucky if it will get you 60k a year.

The only degrees that seem to be worth the paper they're written on anymore are science and technology. (Engineering or computers.)

jackass --- 7 years ago -

Medical but I guess that counts as science

SagaciousSighFiGurl (Mod) --- 7 years ago -

Did you all know this is NOT taking place here? These are workers in Germany.

SagaciousSighFiGurl (Mod) --- 7 years ago -

Amazon pay and wages: it?s not bad at all...http://www.businessinsider.com/how-much-do-you-make-working-at-amazon-2015-5

Emperor of Kingwood --- 7 years ago -

There is a reason for that. They are tougher programs that not all students (actually very few) can master. Therefore, supply and demand.

Emperor of Kingwood --- 7 years ago -

Business degrees are a dime a dozen.

If your position is that to maintain a healthy representative republic as we have now an thriving middle class is essential, you'll get no argument from me.

The optimum wealth distribution to maintain the republic would be more of a back loaded bell curve. We have that now. When it approaches a more bimodal distribution then we are at risk of another revolution.

RayofHope --- 7 years ago -

I agree. I think his salary is shameful, but if Amazon wants to pay it, it's up to them.

We don't need to redistribute income.

jackass --- 7 years ago -

He doesn?t get paid 230,000 a minute. You can look up his salary online. His value comes from being the majority shareholder in amazon...which if you break it down with some creative math could be seen that way.

SagaciousSighFiGurl (Mod) --- 7 years ago -

Yep, His salary is 81k a year, token change... Lol

AwesomeTattooedDragon --- 7 years ago -

Amazon isn't the only company in the world. If you don't like the way they treat their employee, get another job! You're no indentured there! You know, there are companies who even offer to send you to college! Take charge of your life- no one is going to do it for you- expecting others to take care of you is unrealistic and childish.
