Granddaughter cannot take antibiotics and dr said use home remedies. Anyone have any suggestions that worked? Tia 

Yep! If you can get her to actually do it.

When raw garlic is crushed, after about ten minutes it releases allicin, which kills infections. So if you can crush up a few cloves of garlic, let it rest ten minutes and then she can eat it. It will burn, a lot. A glass of milk may help with the burn. You could also put it on top of pizza or buttered bread if she refuses any other way. 

Your doctor sent you home positive for strep and said to just find a home remedy? 

You can try garlic, as prepared above, then added to virgin olive oil and italian seasoning and spread on toasted bread. I eat it this way every couple of days. I hardly ever get sick and if I do, I do this right away and for a few days in a row. Usually I am well after the first day! The garlic must be raw and crushing and time is important to release the allicin. 

I'm a little taken back by your dr. Strep is nothing to mess with. You need a new dr..... 

Are you sure your daughter can not take any anti biotics? My daughter is allergic to many, but there are still some she can take. I believe if left untreated, strep can cause heart valve problems. 

I am in total agreement with finding a new doctor! I was astounded. She is 18 months so anything that mom has read won't work for her. Grrrrr ... 

Left untreated it can turn into mono than CEBV and that's hard to live with. 

Get a new doctor. I can only imagine how the poor baby is suffering.

Get that baby to the ER. Strep is nothing to play with. 

That is malpractice. Possible serious side effects from rheumatic fever, inflammation of the kidneys and scarlet fever. I can not imagine ANY doctor sending her home with no treatment. I would not wait on getting her to another facility. 

Yes strep can cause problems, ask me brother...what doc would do that?

Strep can also cause heart damage....please get to another doctor to get proper treatment. 

Garlic is the best treatment for your daughter if she can not have antibiotics. Garlic will kill the strep. Also, lemon water kills germs.

I agree strep is very bad but if the child can not have antibiotics for some reason, you have to find another way to treat her. The dr. should have been able to point you in the right direction.

Wow, our ped has never said that. However, raw garlic is good, my kids eat it with apple sauce. Or try that natural kitchen by skeeters they might have an essential oil for it. Then call a new ped for the above reasons.

Agree about seeking second opinion and new Dr. But essential oils have been effective for many as an alternative to antibiotics.. They can be used with young children. Check it out maybe...

With the over use of antibiotics, holistic medicine is the way to go sometimes. Save the antibiotics for when your body really needs it. 

18 months?!? Poor baby :( I can't imagine a Dr who would offer no real advice. That is crazy. It was a positive case of strep? I would switch Drs for sure! 

time to take to an emergency clinic. Strep can damage her voice for life if untreated. If she was older I would also say to gargle with salt water but dont know if you can get a child that age to gargle. it wont hurt if she swallows some and salt is a natural antibiotic. 

Found this on Mayo Clinic website. You may want to ask doctor to try one of these. If you or your child is allergic to penicillin, your doctor likely may prescribe:

A cephalosporin such as cephalexin (Keflex)
Clarithromycin (Biaxin)
Azithromycin (Zithromax, Zmax)
Clindamycin 

Strep can be dangerous. It is nothing to play around with and CAN be treated in a variety of ways. Find another doctor.

No one I've ever heard of is allergic to all streptococcus bacteria fighting antibiotics.

I was tested for strep this morning..Gargling with salt water and drinking lemonade is helping a little. I doubt it will clear on it's own..That poor baby needs something especially if it's strep.

My son always gets scarlet fever when he has strep because he doesn't run a fever with it so we do not realize what he has until the lacy rash starts showing up which our Dr. takes VERY seriously because that same rash can develop on your internal organs and cause heart issues and death. Strep is very serious and cannot be treated without an antibiotic, time to find a new dr.

I do not think antibiotics are always necessary and do get over prescribed.... But in this case that baby needs them for strep.

I had strep as a child and my mother tried to treat w/home rememdies not realizing the dangers. Within a short time, I developed Rheumatic Fever which has caused me problems off and on all my life. This child needs antibiotics. Strep is not something you should try to treat w/home remedies.
