When Donald Trump announced his candidacy I laughed and thought: How can a (mostly) television personality run the country? Initially, I did not feel he was electable.

Then I thought of Obama, a motivational speaker without business experience and very little government experience. Who knows what the American public will elect.

Trump has:

1) No government experience
2) Lots of business experience
3) Very popular with a segment of voters

Obama had (When elected)
1) Almost no government experience
2) No business experience
3) Very popular with a segment of voters

It is obvious from our experience with Obama that the American public often goes for form over substance.

steinhoister2016 --- 3 years ago -

Will you do a comparison of John Edwards and George W Bush next?

ladybeachbum --- 3 years ago -

Maybe we have run the course with experienced Presidents and we now need someone with business experience since the government is a business. I don't like Trump but maybe he is the one that will straighten up the mess we are in....just maybe. We do not need a weak President ever again.

steinhoister2016 --- 3 years ago -

Maybe we have run the course with experienced Presidents

how do we find an experienced president? Senators who are career politicians? Top ranked military who never gave any thought to social issues? Businessmen with no legal experience? Who has experience??

No one...and none of the above have ever done any good for the country.

AMEN LBB!

AwesomeTattooedDragon --- 3 years ago -

Agreed.

Ray take you mouthful of hate to kw.com

Prolix Raconteur --- 3 years ago -

Talk about "hate". You posted asinine "repug" vitriol on a half dozen threads that have nothing or very little to do with politics in the last 10 minutes.

You need to stop and take a breath dude.

AwesomeTattooedDragon --- 3 years ago -

(I was agreeing with Steinhoister)

sheddy --- 3 years ago -

I really think Trump will go too far before to long and go back home, but it is great to hear someone get out there and say what he really thinks. He isn't worried about the voters back home or trying to keep his special interest people happy. He knows how to run successful businesses and to do that you have to get rid of the waste. We desperately need that. He knows how to get things accomplished and if he doesn't know how to do something he knows where to find the person who is the best.

steinhoister2016 --- 3 years ago -

IF he's serious, he's not going anywhere...

Prolix Raconteur --- 3 years ago -

As entertaining as he's been not mincing words and stirring the pot, he really needs to flame out before the race gets serious. Democrat's dream scenario is him staying on but running as an independent and splitting the Republican voter base ala Ross Perot. In that case, we'll get HRC or Bernie by default.

steinhoister2016 --- 3 years ago -

I think he believes he can win...and he doesn't need campaign donations. With his ego, I doubt he's going to be swayed by the GOP asking him politely to step aside.

Prolix Raconteur --- 3 years ago -

Exactly. He'll say to hell with them and run as independent if they don't kowtow to his proclivities. His ego is that big.

all of that being said....sounds like the pubs might want to start embracing the idea.

Prolix Raconteur --- 3 years ago -

I would expect their think tanks are burning the midnight oil a lot lately. Trump changed the landscape overnight for them.

AMDG --- 3 years ago -

Here is the major similarity between Obama and Trump -

The basis for both of their platforms is and was pointing out how bad everything is, without any real plan on how to fix it, or pay for it. How it was the other sides fault, and it is time for a change.

Dorothy Parker --- 3 years ago -

Trump is a douche. He's filed tons of frivolous lawsuits, he's filed bankruptcy a million times.

He's like a damn Ouija board. You just can't get rid of him!

I doubt he'll be running on the "family values" platform...

Dorothy Parker --- 3 years ago -

Not with his Ouija board status....that's for sure!

Trump the hump

Hiro Protagonist --- 3 years ago -

Trump is the republican party's Id.

RayofHope --- 3 years ago -

I listened to portions of Trump speaking on the border in Laredo yesterday (On radio) and was surprised to hear the people cheering his comments. Most were Latino residents.

Obviously, some people don't like Trump, but he has quite a following everywhere.

Interestingly, today the Democratic contender (Clinton) was identified on CBS news as lying about her use of her personal emails (again).

I think the public will tolerate a loud-mouth (Trump), more than they will a liar (Clinton).

fuzz81 --- 3 years ago -

You don't think trump is a liar? I guess you haven't worked in big business or done any research on trumps past dealings.

RayofHope --- 3 years ago -

Can you give me some examples? Not being argumentative, but can you name some specific instances that Trump has lied.

fuzz81 --- 3 years ago -

Well he lies about his net worth for one.

He lied about a bunch of stuff here
http://www.factcheck.org/2015/06/trump-tramples-facts/

RayofHope --- 3 years ago -

Thanks for the link. I checked it out. But I think you are confusing my question.

Your link is to a site that disputes information produced by Trump. But, presenting information incorrectly is different than lying. Too much of what politicians say is skewed.

For example, when Hillary Clinton claims she never used her personal email for classified government information, and investigators find numerous emails contained classified information, this is an example of lying.

Big difference.

Again, can you get me a site indicating Trump deliberately lied?

steinhoister2016 --- 3 years ago -

Who cares, these people are held to a standard no one can achieve anyway, maybe just let whoever is president relax a little and try to do a good job without worrying about petty crap all the time...

RayofHope --- 3 years ago -

For example:

A person claiming they have never cheated on their income taxes and is found to have filed a deduction for something that he/she knows does not exist, would be considered a liar.

The same is true for a person who claims they never used their personal email account for classified government information and is found to have routinely used their account for classified emails would be considered a liar (I.E., Hillary).

You could make the claim that Trump is inaccurate, but it would be harder to say he falls into the same category as Hillary (a liar).

fuzz81 --- 3 years ago -

I would argue he knowingly and deliberately lied during his announcements.

Univision CEO claims he's flat out lied
http://www.boston.com/entertainment/tv/2015/06/30/donald-trump-lying-about-univision-apology-ceo-says/a0pO9mXsobX4qsaWcsg7uL/story.html

I'm sure there are many other cases. Trump is also very quick to sue anyone who talks negatively of him as well.

How do you know Hilary lied?

RayofHope --- 3 years ago -

Who cares,

That is always Clinton's defense, but some people feel it will be a factor in the next election.

Why do you think so many polls are being conducted asking the public whether Hillary is trustworthy?

steinhoister2016 --- 3 years ago -

Can you name a politician who is??

RayofHope --- 3 years ago -

Fuzz81 - Thanks for the link, but it is not very persuasive.

Have you every gotten into an argument and you remember it differently than they way they remember it?

Your link is a he-said, she-said link. No way to know who is correct.

RayofHope --- 3 years ago -

Can you name a politician who is??

I agree, politicians are not generally trustworthy. But, when you have CBS Evening news featuring a story that Hillary lied about her personal emails, you can understand why there are so many polls being devoted to Clinton's trustworthiness.

steinhoister2016 --- 3 years ago -

I agree but if every politician were under the same intense scrutiny I doubt they would score any better...I'm not a fan of hers, its the process that I have an issue with.

fuzz81 --- 3 years ago -

Believe what you want. Trump is a real estate mogul, and those people get there by twisting things on gray areas of the law. He's a disgusting douche and will never be trustworthy in my eyes.

Look at what he's done to people's lives/homes in an effort to put up a golf course on a unique landscape in Scotland. He was in a pissing match with a farmer that refused to sell his house, trump was going on TV calling him a disgusting pig etc.. He doesn't give two craps about you or anyone else. He's a despicable small man.

RayofHope --- 3 years ago -

fuzz81 - I was just trying to figure out whether Trump was a liar. Everything people seem to be posting is that he is rude.

I can agree with that.

RayofHope --- 3 years ago -

its the process that I have an issue with.

I agree. That was my original reason for the blog. I don't understand why people will elect a motivational speaker (Obama) or consider a TV show host (Trump) for president.

The presidential election is becoming a popularity contest with the media beating the drums for their own candidate.

Reagan was an actor...craziness happens.

If journalism back then was the way it is today, Reagan and Nancy would have been defending her relationship with Sinatra all day long...
