Does anyone know the names of the two young men involved in this shooting?

FANCY PANTS --- 9 years ago -

Are they teens? If they are, I don't think they will release the names.

vernsgirl --- 9 years ago -

So sad. I wish so much that we had free mental health services that families can reach out to. Well, I pray for all those involved.

Was this a mental health problem?

From what I gather, it was a bunch of kids, unsupervised, smoking weed, playing with a loaded gun

Gigix4 --- 9 years ago -

^^^ not a good combination!

That is what I heard too. It was reported on one of the stations that this was a regular "hang out" house. There were several teens there and apparently regular unsupervised gatherings are common.

I am so sorry that a tragedy took place there and more than one life has probably been destroyed. But one of the parents on TV who had a child there knew this was the gathering spot for the kids and their unsupervised activities and the teen was still allowed to hang out there. She sort of shrugged it off as a "you know how kids are kind of situation"

Sorry, but I will go on record as stating that parents need to step up and be present in their kid's lives. This should not have happened. Of course teens will get in trouble no matter what, but allowing unsupervised gatherings for teens in your home is not okay. It makes me livid that any parents would condone this. A recipe for a trouble.

Pretty sure smoking weed had nothing to do with this...that's not known to incite violence. More than likely, there was a situation between two of the boys and one shot the other.

SleightOfHand --- 9 years ago -

"More than likely, there was a situation between two of the boys and one shot the other. "

You don't say? That's what the news article already said. Marijuana, while it may not incite violence, can cause the user to do stupid things. I'd say shooting your buddy in the head is a rather stupid thing to do.

Hiro Protagonist --- 9 years ago -

unlike alcohol, pot doesn't make people wanna shoot other people. Obviously, there was something else going on besides "stupidity."

SleightOfHand --- 9 years ago -

Is that you mark? You have the reasoning skills of Mark.

Is the appropriate conversation to have about weed, or I don't know ... Maybe the freaking loaded gun they were "playing" with.

Exactly.

Yeah, maybe smoking weed contributed to bad decision making.

I think the conversation also needs to be the fact that the home was apparently a hangout for teens that wanted to do their own thing without supervision according to the news reports. I agree about a loaded gun but I haven't seen anything that said it was in the home. One of the kids could have brought it.

But parents need to be aware of where their kids are hanging and meeting up with other teens. I don't know the circumstances of why the home was routinely not supervised, the news didn't say. There could be a single parent working or something. But I just can't imagine knowingly allowing my kids to "hang out" in such a home. You can pretty much figure that there is going to be a lot of things going on in that situation that might not be a good idea. Parents need to step up and take off the blinders.

My 3 and Me --- 9 years ago -

I heard the gun was stolen.

SleightOfHand --- 9 years ago -

"I heard the gun was stolen. "
Probably stolen from his dad.

Typical leftist, taking a reasonable answer completely out of context and running with it. I did not try to convey that marijuana was the cause of this accident. I simply am implying the combination of unsupervised teens, smoking weed and playing with a gun resulted in the deceased's untimely death. Don't look into this any deeper.

You said don't look any deeper at this, but you were the one to go into "typical leftist..yadayada" Typical of whatever your political status is as well, I think... Why do people have to criticize the responses to the original statement. Everyone is entitled to their thoughts or perceptions and the dialogue happening should just be additional thoughts or perceptions. Not a venue to criticize the response. You took this the wrong way.

MHMRA is free or reduced price depending on how much money the person makes.

a889324uu --- 9 years ago -

If only all the kids had a gun.

Marijuana is irrelevant in this situation. Typical righties, always justifying and excusing gun violence.

SleightOfHand --- 9 years ago -

Guns and drugs never mix. Stop being a tool and look at the whole picture.

Being unsupervised was the core problem here. Had a responsible parent been there, none of the other issues would have happened. Note: emphasis put on the word responsible.

I've seen this kind of thing time and time again. Lots of parents in Kingwood send their kids to Galveston with booze and condoms for their graduation. They lack common sense and being a responsible role model bc whatever Johnny wants, Johnny gets!

AwesomeTattooedDragon --- 9 years ago -

I agree with that to a point- even if you're home, you aren't in the room with your teens- if they want to be sneaking around, they will-

That parenting thing can be a real pain sometimes. Telling the kids no, and having to listen to the whining, sometimes you even have to not do what YOU want to do - just to do this parenting thing - I mean who can expect anyone to do this stuff, it's exhausting.
