So very sad, and a tremendous waste of a vibrant, entertaining, intellectual world traveler and chef.

I loved his show, Parts Unknown. He traveled the world exploring different and foods and culture and people.

Since this comes on the heels of designer Kate Spade's suicide, it's all the more sad, and thought provoking.

I've often watched his show where he got paid millions of dollars to travel, meet different people, and explore new things and thought......it's the perfect life! But, it's proof that success does not equal happiness.

The struggle is real.

OrdinaryGuy --- 72 days ago -

Yes, it is.

Prolix Raconteur --- 72 days ago -

Didn't see that one coming. Guy was on top of the world and always seemed so content and enthralled with life.

Wow.

RIP Bourdain. You will be sorely missed.

I am starting to think certain personality types lend to depression. I generalize of course. Bourdain was a former drug user, heavy smoker, and drinker. I say that in the kindest way only to show he struggled in many ways in life. I wish we could help people who struggle like this.

Mental healthcare is abysmal.

SagaciousSighFiGurl (Mod) --- 72 days ago -

I think you're right Tink. But we can send a man to the moon. It's a matter of priority and we need to make this one of them.

It's just not fair. That's all there is to it. My heart goes out to all who have been dealt this hand. And if you're struggling, TELL someone. Let them help you.

Electricity(yes, again), magnets,
new drugs, aromatherapy...it seems every other day a "new" therapy for depression is in the news and then the therapies only work for some or they only work temporarily.

But we can send a man to the moon.
That may be exactly the mindset this country will have to have to figure this beast out.

I hope his daughter can successfully carry the weight of this terrible outcome for her lifetime so maybe she can thrive and let's just hope she did not inherit the predisposition for depression.

What a sad mess :(

He was a heroin addict in recovery, for good or only for a time. Who knows. I thought he looked thinner this season, more drawn. I also noticed how his drinking on camera for his shows seemed to be increasing. I wondered since addicts are addicts are addicts and recovery means everything should be ceased not just the opiates.

I thought they were quick to say suicide but unless he left a note behind, that's a jump. I'm more inclined to believe it was yet another accidental overdose.

Wait...I thought he hung himself...haven't been following it that closely though just saw the blurbs.

AwesomeTattooedDragon --- 72 days ago -

The man was rich, and could afford the best doctors. I think he was kidding himself that he could be an addict, but could drink- He had such a big personality, I was so shocked when I heard this. I haven't heard how he did it yet, but I'll miss his shows. :(

Abysmal healthcare is not the issue for this man, Kate Spade or Robin Williams.

witchywoman --- 72 days ago -

They just said on CNN that it was indeed that he hung himself. I am heartbroken. And yes I agree he had been looking very skinny. I was uncomfortable with all the drinking he was doing on the show knowing he was supposedly a recovering addict. RIP Tony

He was a better journalist than any of us were because it came to him naturally. -d.lemon on bourdain

As new info emerges, it?s been revealed that Anthony?s GF, Asia Argento, was one of the first and few to accuse Harvey Weinstein. He said this about her coming forward:

??In these current circumstances, one must pick a side. I stand unhesitatingly and unwaveringly with the women. Not out of virtue, or integrity, or high moral outrage  ?  as much as I?d like to say so  ?  but because late in life, I met one extraordinary woman with a particularly awful story to tell, who introduced me to other extraordinary women with equally awful stories. I am grateful to them for their courage, and inspired by them. That doesn?t make me any more enlightened than any other man who has begun listening and paying attention. It does makes me, I hope, slightly less stupid.?

It?s so very sad to loose someone who was still truly needed in our world.
