Gigix4 --- 11 years ago -

Just saw this place will be closing down permanently, according to their facebook page.

SagaciousSighFiGurl (Mod) --- 11 years ago -

Nice....should have figured, but then again, i'm wrong quite frequently. lol

I'm sorry a place with the right idea about food tanked.

DVaz --- 11 years ago -

Weren't they only open for lunch no dinner?

MiaBella Farm --- 11 years ago -

Well, that is too bad...

MissPris --- 11 years ago -

DVaz, they were originally open for both lunch and dinner. Before they opened though there was a lot of general social media negativity towards the restaurant and Internet gossip must hold a lot of sway because anytime I invited people to join me there or mentioned we were going there after it did open I was met with reactions like I had just tossed baby kittens down a well (from people who admittedly never ate there). Well, I was a frequent patron and enjoyed every meal I had there. Sadly, there just wasn't enough customers to warrant being open for dinner and so they closed dinner hours and that pretty much sealed the deal against becoming profitable.

It's sad that it is closing because they really were attentive to their customers needs. The food and service was always really good and not really more expensive than fast food meal combos. I don't know why so many on the Internet were so negative on the place. I bet it would have done better located in a different part of town. I'll miss going there.

chappy --- 11 years ago -

Sorrentos closed also.

MissPris --- 11 years ago -

I hadn't heard about Sorrentos :(

DVaz --- 11 years ago -

MissPriss, yeah I remember all the threads basically attacking the place. I never gave the place a shot because in that strip mall I always eat Oriental Gardens.

Are they still open? I need to give them a shot if it's still open.

Winning --- 11 years ago -

I hadn't heard about Sorrentos :(

I hadn't either. We've been there a few times and thought it was great. Sad.

waterfall --- 11 years ago -

I haven't been to either. I stayed away from Farm to Market because of the reviews here. We never had a chance to get to Sorrentos.

Snake Plissken --- 11 years ago -

Farm to Market failed because of poor management. It's not the customers fault that the food was extremely overpriced and service was terrible.

If it costs $80 for a family of 4 to eat hamburgers, and you spend an hour waiting for your food, it's a wonder this place didn't tank sooner.

tinman --- 11 years ago -

I will never understand the mentality that somehow the customer is at fault when a business tanks. Customers are the reason businesses suceed and ownership is almost always to blame for a failure.

There are plenty of mom and pop places that have suceeded in the bubble. Good customer service will always carry the day. Bad customer service will doom you from the start.

Case in point....Alspaughs.

Exceptional customer service and definitely not the cheapest.

toot --- 11 years ago -

I totally agree Tinman. If I frequent a business it is service that means the most to me. I am spending my money with you and I expect to be treated special. If that is not the case, then I do not come back.

MissPris --- 11 years ago -

I don't see nyone blaming customers on this thread. I don't think you could classify as customers Internet posters who bashed a place obsessively before it was even open. I remember Sorrentos got a bit of bashing to by people who only looked at their online menu and never stepped foot in the place. Those aren't customers.

I would question if Alspaughs would survive if they opened in the age of social media.

As for pricing, taking my family of five out to eat always cost less at Farm to Market than it did at Chic-Fil-A or Jason's Deli. Of course, it all really depends on what you order. Yes, a burger off the dollar menu at McDonalds cost less than the burger at Farm To Market. For good reason too, Dollar Menu burgers are tiny LOL

It's all moot now though. They are both closed. Long Live Fast Food!

Sorry honey but you just contradicted yourself.

I wasn't aware that
El Charro,
Hin's Garden,
Red Curry,
Three B's,
Chelsea Deli,
RC's,
Kolache House,
Akashi,
Raffa's,
Rico's,
Mencious,
etc,
etc,
etc

were national fast food chains.

ladybeachbum --- 11 years ago -

Alspaughs survives because they have excellent service and even in today's social media they would survive because they started with hard work and customer service. They didn't put out a product and not stand behind it. They didn't charge if they didn't have all the pieces. Maybe the lesson learned here is get your stuff together before opening the doors, price your food competitivly to your market and make sure every customer gets what they order and great service. I'm just surprised it took this long. Most chain restaurants started from someone's ideas of what makes a good restaurant and when it was sucessful it became the chain. Getting it right works and expands.

I thought the food was less than mediocre and the service was terrible. We went at lunch time and the place was not busy. To many waitstaff standing around talking and not enough sense of urgency.

I loved Sorrento's when the first opened. Same thing happened with them. They started cutting corners and being slow with their service. Sucks but ain't nobody got time for that.

If I can out cook you then you damn sure better make sure you are prompt with my drink and the food better be served timely.

Leila --- 11 years ago -

amen, LBB!

I read once the statistics of restaurants failures and it was staggeringly high.

Many do not do not do their market research before opening their doors and see what customers value the most when spending their dining out $$$.

There is a lot of options when eating out and I will not feel guilty because I did not patronize a place simple to keep them in business.

There were too many times that I went into the F2M establishment and left with the feeling that they did not have their act together. Many people I talked to were let down by the fresh farm stand concept while feeling like it was less than promised.

When F2M closed for dinner that made no sense to me. Most places rely on their dinner business and many times only open for lunch when they have an established base.

Sorrentos was very good but a price point above what most people would spend on a regular basis. I think their size and overhead was probably a factor in their closure. Chez Nous is also a special occasion restaurant and has had a loyal following in the area for many years, so it is certainly possible to have that kind of concept in this area.

I consider the quality of the meal, the value and the ambiance when I am going out to eat. I want the expense, the menu and the atmosphere to reflect my expectations. I also don't mind a greasy spoon or fast food if that is what is being represented.

I went there a few times and always left with tne feeling that for the quality, the value wasnt there.Plus, the whole kid playground was strange to me.

MissPris --- 11 years ago -

On the 8th Day, sorry you missed the sarcasm.

TheUglyTruth, I agree with you that when I go out to eat, it better be better than I can do at home. That rarely happens anymore. Service needs to be good regardless, that's just a given.

a2803315uu --- 11 years ago -

According to the Kingwood Sorrentos manager they started building out a new place in the same strip center about 500' from its current location. They closed only to move the equipment and supplies. He is not sure of when or if they will reopen becuase last Friday the landlord locked them out.

RedMulch --- 11 years ago -

I hadn't heard about Sorrentos :(

I hadn't either. We've been there a few times and thought it was great. Sad.

I don't think Sorrentos is closing. I think it is just moving........a little further up the road.

Sorry that you're not a better writer.

DVaz --- 11 years ago -

Mencius is not a national chain! The only one is in Kingwood and Horace and his wife opened it in 1984.

Take it up with MIssPris. According to him/her, the only local restaurant to ever open in the history of Kingwood is closing simply because Kingwooders are uncivilized and conditioned to eat only processed food from national restaurant chains.

a14088uu --- 11 years ago -

FYI: Sorrentos is closed for 3 weeks only. They are moving to the south end of the center. We were in last week and they explained that everything is fine, and they look forward to seeing us at the end of the month in the new location. AS for Farm to Market: Tried it several times. It was hard to get past the loud and noisy "industrial" atmosphere. Our food was a mess. When I pay $12 for a 'stack' of "grilled vegetables" I would expect something better than sliced vegetables heated on a griddle and slathered in canola oil. No thanks, no love lost from this diner.

Peeking Boo --- 11 years ago -

Bummer :( I never had a bad experience there, food or service wise.

dirtygert --- 11 years ago -

So glad about Sorrentos.....I LOVE their food. Kingwood needs a classy restaurant like them.

Sebastian --- 11 years ago -

I ate there for lunch one time. Ordered a cup of soup, and fish tacos. It was a small cup of soup that was admittedly great and three small fish tacos that were very mediocre with no sides.

My bill was $18 dollars......I did not go back.

trailwoodmom --- 11 years ago -

Sorry to hear F2M closing. I've eaten there 1/2 dozen times, mix of dinner and lunch and every time food and service was superb. I often got the grilled vegetables but the version without the rice. In fact, a side was $3 and I'd order two to make a meal of it, along with a cup of meaty soup. I think that might've been $10 for a healthy meal. Honestly, I think not having a liquor license did them in.

Emperor of Kingwood --- 11 years ago -

I think not having a liquor license did them in.

I think mediocre food, high prices, inconsistent service and the inddor playground was what did them in.

freebyrdll --- 11 years ago -

Is it true about Sorentos ? Went by there today, the name is gone and there's a lock out letter . They are tearing down the front and the ladders are through the torn up awnings ?

G Keeng --- 11 years ago -

You should give Cafe du Bois a shot in Town Center if you enjoy classy along with consistently exceptional service and quality.

I called a couple of weeks to ask if they were closing because I had heard the same thing but they are just moving to a smaller location several store fronts down and then they are supposed to bring in another upscale restaurant that is "well-known" to that space where Sorrentos used to be.
On Farm to Market, I am sad they didn't make it - everytime I went I enjoyed it. I think my favorite were those sliders!

I heard the owner of the strip had bought into Sorrentos. Interesting info. I hope Sorrentos makes it and returns to the quality of food and service of their Houston location.

freebyrdll --- 11 years ago -

They won't be using their awnings .

etxmama --- 11 years ago -

According to Farm to Market's FB page, they are already planning something new, per the status they posted about 2 hours ago.

Bad reviews will kill a business....every business should keep this in mind.

For this particular restaurant, NUMEROUS people had a bad experience and nothing changed to remedy the consistent complaints.

They really only have themselves to blame.

Exactly. People will give a new place time to get straightened out and address the problems. However, when issues are not addressed, people dont go back.
