9:15 a.m. Thursday, around 7 a.m., a Houston Police patrol officer was in pursuit of a fleeing motorcycle in the Kingwood area, when the officer apparently lost sight of the bike for a short time.

The HPD officer soon spotted the motorcycle and continued the pursuit, northbound on Loop 494 into Montgomery County. The fleeing suspect looked back at the officer, failed to stop for a red light, and ran into the rear of a Ford Mustang.

The suspect, identified only as a 24-year-old male from Houston, was pronounced dead on the scene. The name has not been released as of this writing.

The intersection of Loop 494 and Martin remains closed for investigation.

The officer will probably get credit for the kill and be one step closer to ace even though the red Mustang did all the work.

LizKeen --- 11 years ago -

I would call him a 24 year old thief.

A man riding a stolen motorcycle died in a traffic crash after running a red light Thursday morning as he sped from police in the Kingwood area, officials said.

The incident began about 7 a.m. on northbound U.S. 59 in north Houston when an officer spotted a motorcyclist pass him on the freeway at a high rate of speed, said Kese Smith, a spokesman with the Houston Police Department.

Smith said the officer saw the motorcyclist again after exiting the freeway near Northpark and tied to pull him over. The motorcyclist refused to stop and sped away northbound on Loop 494. The officer followed him.

After a very brief chase, Smith said, the motorcyclist ran a red light at Martin, slamming into a Mustang that was traveling eastbound on Martin. The impact forced the Mustang to collide with a pickup.

The motorcyclist died at the scene. The two men in the Mustang and the woman in the pickup were not hurt. The officer was not injured.

Smith said the motorcycle had been reported stolen Friday.

We aren't in another country. Those rules don't apply.

We just shoot 'em here.

AwesomeTattooedDragon --- 11 years ago -

the guy was 24 years old- theft isn't a capital crime-

Prolix Raconteur --- 11 years ago -

nor would he have received capital punishment had he been sensible and stopped...his actions led to his demise..

AngieKaye --- 11 years ago -

his actions led to his demise..

Maybe if we chopped off a hand these bottom feeders would stop stealing and we wouldn't be happy they are dead.

With one hand it would have been harder for that dead idiot to steal or drive that motorcycle.

Winning --- 11 years ago -

With one hand it would have been harder for that dead idiot to steal or drive that motorcycle.

But then he could steal with the other hand. That method isn't going to work unless they steal twice and have both hands cut off.

AngieKaye --- 11 years ago -

I am just wondering what else he was guilty of. Was there more to it then just a stolen bike? According to the video the police stated he was going at an extreme high rate of speed up 59n. They didn't stop or try to stop him then because it was too dangerous for the commuters on the freeway. Once they saw him again they tried to stop him and thats when he sped up and kill himself by running a red light looking backwards over his shoulder!

Have you called all of the news stations yet? When is his funeral?

MoreToLife --- 11 years ago -

Why watchout? I'm very happy to be an American, why should I move?

I hate criminals, and if they get killed while committing a crime, who cares? Not me

I have to agree. Sorry but if you steal, and run from the police on a MOTORCYCLE getting killed is poetic justice. No telling what crime was next for this guy. If he was innocent then that is a different story. Why would and innocent person run from the police?

I was saying IF he would of been in another country he would of met his own dimise by the hands of the courts. Its his fault and no one else.

We have it too good sometimes in the US. We allow a slap on the wrist to criminals and allow them to bond out and or just serve 6 months of 10 year sentences. We dont punish people so therefore they keep doing it.

AngieKaye --- 11 years ago -

and fyi they cut off the right hand in other countries leaving the criminal with only their toilet paper hand to do business.

AFWife --- 11 years ago -

They didn't stop or try to stop him then because it was too dangerous for the commuters on the freeway.

I call bs on the part of HPD. They didn't want to stop him because he was about to hit Montgomery County going northbound. The different agencies do not work together out here.

It's no coincidence that American Christian fundie wackadoodles are compared to the Taliban and other fundie ilks.

Love this kinda crap.

Continue.

Dorothy Parker --- 11 years ago -

What American would advocate for barbaric pratices like cutting a hand off for stealing?

Do you realize how sick that is?

Donkey Hodie --- 11 years ago -

A Texas law enforcement officer has powers of arrest in the entire state, not just the county he works in. An HPD officer can arrest someone in El Paso if he sees them break the law, or even if he was on a 12 hour pursuit.

Sweet Cherub --- 11 years ago -

If you break the law, and then run from police, thereby endangering every other motorist on the road with you...you deserve what you get, period!

Dorothy Parker --- 11 years ago -

I don't think anyone is arguing about a guy stealing a motorcycle and killing himself while fleeing police. That is karma, for the most part.

I have an issue with someone advocating mutilation as a punishment for stealing. It's sick that anyone would want to do that.
