Time for the GOP weenies to take action and vote. The overwhelming public supports additional background checks.

fuzz81 --- 9 years ago -

85-90% of the public support these bills

Prolix Raconteur --- 9 years ago -

Here's an idea. Enforce existing gun laws. Under the Obama admin, federal gun prosecutions are at their lowest level in a decade. He's more interested in imposing more gun laws on law abiding citizens than he is in prosecuting gun felons using existing laws.

fuzz81 --- 9 years ago -

Vote. Zero. Repeat zero votes have been had by the house, on bills that 90% of people support.

Are you daft?

fuzz81 --- 9 years ago -

It's also bipartisan. Paul Ryan won't bring it to vote, because the NRA pays him not to. He also cut off the cameras.

One of many you can find:

http://www.cnn.com/2016/06/20/politics/cnn-gun-poll/

support for specific gun control measures was very strong, with 92% saying they wanted expanded background checks, 87% supporting a ban for felons or people with mental health problems and 85% saying they would ban people on federal watchlists from buying guns. Among Republicans, that number is even higher -- 90% say they favor preventing people on the terror watch list or "no fly" list from buying a gun. That number is at 85% for Democrats.

fuzz81 --- 9 years ago -

Back in November, 83% of gun owners supported universal background checks

http://m.motherjones.com/politics/2015/11/nra-gun-owners-survey-background-checks

fuzz81 --- 9 years ago -

That includes 72% of NRA members

Weenies indeed. You are too kind in referring to them as such.

LMFAO

CSPAN is streaming periscope live now, since the GOP weenies turned off the camera feeds

Then let them vote for representatives that support that position. Clearly, they did not or aren't the majority.

fuzz81 --- 9 years ago -

Let the representitives vote, so their constituents know where they stand on the issue. We'll see who votes it down, and who gets re-elected.

Slider152 --- 9 years ago -

I know memories are short and complete issue understanding is almost always lost on the left, but it's really simple...
The reason Republicans are not supporting the gun-control vote is that the watch list and no-fly list is because once you are on this list (even if the FBI says you were placed on them by mistake), there is no legal mechanism to be removed from them. I know of two people from watching interviews who were inadvertently put on the no-fly list. One was on for 7 years and counting and the other for 9 years and counting (with no way out). No citizen should ever be subjected to this.
Being on one of these lists will mean that you lose some very-important protections like due-process. This list could be used to deny you any or all rights, job opportunities, student loans, etc... and we currently have no legal recourse.
So to anyone whining and trying to manipulate the facts... take a step back, close your mouth, open your eyes and ears, assess the real problem... Then tell the Democrats (who are presently throwing a temper-tantrum) to work with Republicans (who have (along with the NRA) voiced this problem as their primary reason for opposition) to fix the due-process problem with the DOJ watch lists, provide a swift legal mechanism to be removed from the lists, then you'll get your support from everyone.
Until you step up to the plate of responsible citizenship... stop trying so hard to deny due-process to yourself and others.

...again... REALLY simple solution if you have any sort of assessment ability at all. Though I'm not at all surprised that I've had to put this out there multiple times, nor do I think this is the last time time I'll have to educate low-information populace.

...carry on...

Exactly. Add to it that a person cannot be denied their constitutional rights without due process. Being on a list does not constitute a guilty verdict and thus the right to deny constitutional rights.

Again, this is the difference between being a citizen and a subject.

fuzz81 --- 9 years ago -

The reason Republicans are not supporting the gun-control vote

So vote. They hold a majority. Vote.

fuzz81 --- 9 years ago -

What about the rights of the victims? Is the inconvenience of a few, worth denying the thousands of innocent people who lost their right to live every year?

AMDG --- 9 years ago -

Nothing in the 2nd amendment prevents the government from regulating what kind of weapon a private citizen can own, or who can and can not own a weapon.

No one has an inherent right to own anything they want.

If a majority pass a law, or the government enacts legislation that in someone's opinion violates the constitution there is a process to decide if it does or does not.

It seems like for all kinds of issues these days we are trying to circumvent the process.

Let the majority speak, and then allow the process to challenge the results in the courts if it is appropriate.

This process is as much a part of the constitution as the 2nd amendment.

fuzz81 --- 9 years ago -

Again, this is the difference between being a citizen and a subject

This is Empies lame, uniformed attempt as usual to attack Canada.

As has been demonstrated previously, Canadians have been citizens and not subjects for a long time.

Your lack of knowledge is showing again.

fuzz81 --- 9 years ago -

Amen AMDG.

them --- 9 years ago -

Americans won't be safe unless the boogeymen and boogeywomen are on a secret list without due process?

Got it.

Slider152 --- 9 years ago -

Well, they'd like to but after proposing a bill calling for just that, this happened...

Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., praised lawmakers involved with Collins for having "serious bipartisan talks," but didn't endorse her plan.

The Democrats are becoming obstructionists. And right now, they are preventing bi-partisan talks. When they stop acting like spoiled children, then real progress will be made.

Slider152 --- 9 years ago -

Every citizen is guaranteed all protections under the constitution whether it creates victims or not.
We stand on individual liberties and freedoms.

...am I really having to spell this out???

85-90 percent support these bills. By the people, for the people.

I don't care if you're in the butt hurt minority. The representitives aren't doing their jobs. Republicans are cowards.

Fix the list and you'll get the vote.
Very simple. Continue to strive for denying due-process potentially to every citizen, you'll meet with opposition.
I'm ready to vote, tell your senators to get off the floor, wipe their tears and put on their big-boy pants.

Due process?
ROFL

You don't care about due process when unarmed men are gunned down, shot in the backs while running away, by cops who have decided they were going to play jury, judge, and executioner.

Where is their "due process" you so desperately want to claim is a valid reason for not allowing suspected terrorists from legally purchasing guns to mow down American citizens with?

and slider ROFL
How misguided and ill informed you are.

fuzz81 --- 9 years ago -

So then tell them to vote slider. Republicans can vote it down for that reason.

They're refusing to vote. There's a big difference.

fuzz81 --- 9 years ago -

Paul Ryan supports camera control, to cut off the house from the people. The people's house.

Constitutional protections are not something the CAN/EURO trash understands. Also, they fail to comprehend that the constitution gives the Senate and HOR the ability to create and manage their own operating rules.

According to the poll, "87% supporting a ban for felons".

It the United States, it's already illegal for felons to own firearms.

What about Greece? Emp think that's in Africa.

Emperor of Kingwood --- 9 years ago -

Apparently they want a nation guided by polls and not a representative republic.

Slider152 --- 9 years ago -

Due process has nothing to do with a criminal committing a crime, it has everything to do with ensuring you get a fair trial to ensure you were the criminal who did in-fact commit the crime.

There's huge difference there. Please stop letting emotions get in the way and look the definition of any term you don't understand.

And Senate can't vote on anything right now:
1. Because of the temper tantrums that have basically closed down Senate..
2. Because they cannot get bi-partisan support enough to pass it at this time. It will likely take public pressure to force this. Why the democrats call for "sensible gun-control measures" and then refuse to vote on (or even discuss) something that could make a difference is pretty suspect to me.

fuzz81 --- 9 years ago -

It the United States, it's already illegal for felons to own firearms

Thanks, tips. 87% support that. The other 13% polled are probably felons lol

fuzz81 --- 9 years ago -

Uhm. How do you select representatives? Pulling names out of a hat?

Slider152 --- 9 years ago -

According to the poll, "87% supporting a ban for felons".

And interestingly enough, the Obama Administration has decided to try and ban the use of terms such as convict and felon... They would prefer to use the term "returning citizen".

So... I guess they can now purchase guns because there's no law preventing a "returning citizen" from buying a weapon.

Prolix Raconteur --- 9 years ago -

You don't care about due process when unarmed men are gunned down, shot in the backs while running away, by cops who have decided they were going to play jury, judge, and executioner.

You forgot to add unarmed black men. Makes it sound so much more sensational.
