Did students at Richardson High School near Dallas learn today how God expects them to be “dateable”? That appears to have been the purpose of a speaker who visits high schools in Texas and across the country. And a lot of Richardson students appear to have been understandably angered by the presentation.

Motivational speaker Justin Lookadoo gave a presentation at the high school earlier today. According to his rudateable.com website (“R. U. dateable”?) , “dateable girls” should “know how to shut up,” are “soft” and “gentle,” aren’t “Miss Independent,” and remember that “God made guys as leaders.”

And what about “dateable boys”? They remember that “men of God are wild, not domesticated” and that they’re “stronger, more dangerous, and more adventurous” than girls are. They “keep women covered up” because they know that “porn is bad.” “Dateable guys are real men who aren’t afraid to be guys.”

Apparently, young people who don’t fit these outdated and outrageous stereotypes and expectations aren’t ready to make a commitment with God to be “dateable”:

”If you believe the dateable rules and are ready to commit to the list, then read on brave one! This commitment is between you and your God. He knows what is in your heart and He will help you stick to the commitment.”

Richardson High School students didn’t seem to like the presentation very much. Tweeting with the hashtag #lookadouche, a number of them offered some rather sharp 'reviews':

Walking out, I refuse to listen to the enforcement of stereotypes and gender roles. #lookadouche

I love that RISD has a no tolerance on bullying and they brought in a bully to motivate us.#datablegirlsknowwhentoshutup #lookadouche

At this rate, our speaker on Friday will be Ritchie Incognito #Lookadouche

Excellent post about a COMPLETELY out of touch adults...

Hope this idiot does not influence many young men and women!!!

JohnLynch --- 11 years ago -

who says that they're "outdated and outrageous"?...nonbelievers

God gave each gender different responsibilities...going against God is what is outrageous...it sure isn't detrimental to God

Dorothy Parker --- 11 years ago -

Was this presentation at a private Christian school?

"Men of God are wild, not domesticated"

Yee haw!!

snowprincess --- 11 years ago -

The only thing I agree with him on is that porn is not healthy.

The rest is garbage and indicates he is a weak little man. This sounds like something the Taliban would say.

smartypants --- 11 years ago -

Tweeting with the hashtag #lookadouche

Pretty smart kids. That is perfect!

JohnLynch --- 11 years ago -

The rest is garbage and indicates he is a weak little man.

so the Bible is garbage to you...good to know

Pretty smart kids.

yep they are...especially the boys...it's much easier for them if the girls don't follow God's direction...the boys can just use them until they get tired of them and move on to the next one...

Red Heifer --- 11 years ago -

#lookadouche

perfect

Work in Progress --- 11 years ago -

I'd be interested to know what was really said. This article makes it sound horrible. But reading between the lines, I think the Pastor was preaching on Ephesians. Which is actually quite lovely.

And yes, some of my finer moments have been based on the ability to shut up. But before you request that of me, I'm not married to any of you so pssbbbttt!

The Awe Inspiring JoelleDrees (Mod) --- 11 years ago -

Why are boys not held responsible for their actions? Why is it always the girls fault/choice that caused something to happen?

Boys need to be taught to treat with respect, not take advantage, regardless of what the girl is doing or dressed like. And girls need to be taught to respect themselves and their integrity. This whole "boys will be boys" thing is outdated and ridiculous.

JohnLynch --- 11 years ago -

that has nothing to do with what i posted

This whole "boys will be boys" thing is outdated and ridiculous.

actually...it isn't...especially if God isn't in their lives...which is what several on this thread seem to want...if you had been paying attention...THAT was the point of my post

JAMS --- 11 years ago -

JL = Justin Lookadoo?

LMAO

RayofHope --- 11 years ago -

We have more important things we should be talking about than some speaker belittling women. We have an American city that voted in a low reducing women to childhood brides to be married off. 0

Faith-Based Presenter Tells High Schoolers: ‘Dateable Girls Know How to Shut Up!’

But isn't that true?

[ducks]

Agent of Change --- 11 years ago -

Update:

RICHARDSON — Richardson ISD officials apologized Wednesday to students and parents offended by a motivational speaker whose self-empowerment message included gender-specific roles for girls and boys.

Guess we can assume he won't be invited back, nor will any other schools be hiring him ;-)

Work in Progress --- 11 years ago -

I am very amused that gender specific rules for boys and girls is so taboo. Heaven forbid we notice that they are different!

jtcitrus --- 11 years ago -

Right is right and wrong is wrong. gender has nothing to do with it.

Friday --- 11 years ago -

Maybe it is wise to hush up on a date. Most guys slip up and let you know what they are up too. You will know what your are getting into.

Zenfidel --- 11 years ago -

I am very amused that gender specific rules for boys and girls is so taboo. Heaven forbid we notice that they are different!

When you lose a spouse and have kids you learn very quickly that gender specific rules should not be something we teach our kids. We need everyone to feel capable of adapting to whatever sudden changes life throws at them.

This was obviously a case of a JL type trying to keep males as dominant and women subservient.

It is I WhyWhyWhy --- 11 years ago -

There's a difference in celebrating the differences between the sexes and telling one that they are not as good as the other and should bow down to the other sex. I can't believe anyone who was an educator would think that teaching girls that is right.

SagaciousSighFiGurl (Mod) --- 11 years ago -

The worst part about all this is the mixed signals that are coming at women from every angle.

Feminism says it's all about self empowerment and being true to #1. Christianity and other faiths talk about having the heart if a servant. The world in general tells you you can have it all with just a little tinkering here and there!

And if you slip up in just one area, which is likely to happen if you have tried to do everything and be everything to everybody, then comes the landslide.

RayofHope --- 11 years ago -

What is this Ray? I don't know about this.

I don't go to bed at night worrying about Sharia law, but it is coming to the United States in some areas like Dearborn, Michigan. About two years ago a group of Christians were attacked by Muslims on a street. When police arrived they focused on the Christians and not the Muslim group attacking them. The city council of Dearborn has gone out of it's ways to restrict Christians and empower Muslims.

I think it is foolish to focus on some Christian traveling around the country preaching his brand of what women should be, when we have a community in the United States preaching a rigid view that is much more extreme. Sharia Law greatly reduces the rights of women.

there is also a difference in telling the truth...and making stuff up

Red Heifer --- 11 years ago -

Everyone's entitled to their beliefs. The real point is that it isn't anyone else's business to tell my kid how she should behave, what her role should be, what she should aspire to, etc.

JohnLynch --- 11 years ago -

The real point is that it isn't anyone else's business to tell my kid how she should behave, what her role should be, what she should aspire to, etc.

it's God's business...if you want what's best for her...you'd want her to depend upon God

Emperor of Kingwood --- 11 years ago -

So you don't believe in the airing of ideas you don't like?

JohnLynch --- 11 years ago -

Right is right and wrong is wrong.

and the Bible is right...

Emperor of Kingwood --- 11 years ago -

I hear your repudiation, name calling and general dislike of this guy and his ideas.

Does that mean that you are intolerant to any ideas that do not suit your agenda while at the same time preaching tolerance to the rest of us?

Where is your righteous indignation over Muslim teaching? Instead, we are told by you progressives to be tolerant. Which is it?

Red Heifer --- 11 years ago -

I have no problem with education on "this is what we believe" in the context of comparative religion or cultures, including Christian or Muslim fundamentalism. My complaint is with one-off lectures that are designed to indoctrinate, including Christian or Muslim fundamentalism.

Emperor of Kingwood --- 11 years ago -

So the presentation might better be prefaced with "this is an information presentation only" Or, "this presentation is an attempt to indoctrinate and convert" If the latter is the case, then most public school lessons in history, government and social studies should begin with the same disclaimer.

It is I WhyWhyWhy --- 11 years ago -

Bingo, it should be taught as "this is what some believe" not this is the truth. You may think your truth is correct but you may be surprised (shocker) that not everyone believes what you do.

RayofHope --- 11 years ago -

My wife decided many years ago that she wanted to stay home and focus on our children. That was her decision and she resents people saying she wasted her life by not having a career outside the home.

My wife is intelligent, articulate, and could have been very successful in the workplace. She does not quietly submit to my dictates. Over the years I have come to take her council seriously.

She is the woman in our relationship and I am the man. We base everything on the Bible and have a wonderful marriage.

Ender --- 11 years ago -

She is the woman in our relationship and I am the man.

I don't understand why people have a problem with this concept. Even if someone has ZERO religious beliefs they should still be able to understand that men and women are wired differently.

Men are better at some things, while women are better at others. It is as simple as that. I have only been married for 7 years, but i can certainly say that our marriage is much happier when my wife and I hold to our gender roles (she is still a Kindergarten teacher but wants to stay at home when the baby is born.)

The key part to this harmony is that BOTH have to perform in their perspective roles. There are too many "men" out there that do not know how to treat a woman.

You both have to be selfless in a relationship.

It is I WhyWhyWhy --- 11 years ago -

and that is the key not having one be superior or having more say in the relationship.

ARealPeach --- 11 years ago -

Hahaha. Sad but oh so true! Save yourself for marriage ladies, even if you get made fun of and called a prude.

JohnLynch --- 11 years ago -

and that is the key not having one be superior or having more say in the relationship.

can't have 2 leaders in the family...there is always one who will have more say...God decided that man should be the leader of the household...just the way it is...

JAMS --- 11 years ago -

My husband and I are both atheist and both the leaders in our home. No one controls the other.
We don't prescribe to gender roles and don't teach them to our children either.
My 11 yr old daughters can change the oil in our cars and our boys can bake cakes.

It works for us. Every family is different and there is no one size fits all.

I bet all you ladies are just kicking yourselves that you weren't able to scoop JL up while he was single.
