My daughter and her boyfriend were in El Ranchero today on Northpark for lunch and a gentleman had a heart attack right in front of them. Nurses who were there performed CPR and an ambulance came to take him and his frightened wife to the hospital. As they were fixing to leave the guy in the restaurant handed the bill to their friend who was there with them. I am so angry that they had the nerve to hand them a bill given the circumstances! If you happen to go there, please tell them how rude that was!!! They should be ashamed! Praying that this man pulls through.

RedMulch --- 11 years ago -

I witnessed that type thing several years ago. I was actually on a date with a psycotherapist trained in CPR (about the second date) and we were in an Applebees type place when a man at another table fell over.......He went to his aide and actually saved his life....so the ambulance people said......

The restaraunt not only did not charge the sick man's family, but comped our bill as well and gave us free drinks after the drama was over......

Dutchess --- 11 years ago -

That is a kinda douchie thing to do. Prayers go out to the family.

Dutchess --- 11 years ago -

Thats cool RM. That is what the other place should have done.

doxie momma --- 11 years ago -

All the tables where pushed out of the way while they performed CPR. I have no doubt he would've died if the nurses had not been there for lunch. She described how he was but I won't repeat it in case he has family members here on KU. It was not good. I am so disgusted at how it was handled. I don't think I will ever spend my money there again.

photophanatic --- 11 years ago -

We refuse to go there. For many reasons but just one more to add to the ever growing list.

whatchamacallit --- 11 years ago -

I have been considering trying them again but not after this. Tacky and so uncaring!

doxie momma --- 11 years ago -

The new place at 1314 and 494 is good! We've only gone once as we were headed to home depot but it was good food and the people were very nice.

a889324uu --- 11 years ago -

No free rides. I thought that was your rally cry.

SwimSwim --- 11 years ago -

Last time we were at El Ranchero the food was cold and the service was awful...won't go back

Tylers Journey --- 11 years ago -

I always keep asprin on me for things like that.

You can call me Michelle --- 11 years ago -

El Ranchero deserves a bag of flaming dog poop on their doorstep for that.

Emperor of Kingwood --- 11 years ago -

That happened to me at a Marriott. They were great about. My wife had to back to the room late thst night, they recleaned the room and they offered to get her anything she needed and comped the room.

iwaveatcows --- 11 years ago -

Not on my usual list of places but now it is on my NO GO list

AFWife --- 11 years ago -

That sucks! We love El Ranchero over Pueblo Viejo. I'm going to say something next time we are there.

Agent of Change --- 11 years ago -

Pretty tacky, IMO.

DVaz --- 11 years ago -

I always keep asprin on me for things like that.

I have taken one 325mg aspirin every day for years and I'm young.

SueRDH --- 11 years ago -

I wasn't there so I don't know, but are you sure the friend didn't ask for the check? I'm the type of person who would ask for the bill in an event like this if I were the friend.

Bubbles --- 11 years ago -

Terrible of El Ranchero & that used to be one of my favorite places.

zapper007 --- 11 years ago -

Their food is GREAT, and service is better...

Friday --- 11 years ago -

Yep to give them a bill is so tacky. Food should of been free. Most likely a young waitress or waiter.

The Day I Tried to Live --- 11 years ago -

I have taken one 325mg aspirin every day for years and I'm young.

You could probably drop it down to an 80mg tablet and save your liver a bit.

It is I WhyWhyWhy --- 11 years ago -

Isn't this the place where roaches are common? Maybe they caused the heart attack.

Emperor of Kingwood --- 11 years ago -

Keep doing it, watch blood pressure and cholesterol very carefully. DO NOT SMOKE.

Kayry --- 11 years ago -

First off yes, shame on the restaurant for being incredibly insensitive. Secondly,if I was there I think I might have called the employee out on it or told the manager about it and maybe paid their bill myself!

Oops..

Blinker --- 11 years ago -

Their food used to be good a couple of years ago. Not anymore!

Megg --- 11 years ago -

I went to El Rancho once in 2007. I had ordered a shrimp dish. I took one bite and almost vomited. They had served rotten shrimp to me. To this day, it was the most disguising thing I ever put in my mouth. I couldn't believe that they would serve rotten food to their guests. After one bite, I placed money on the table to cover the bill and walked out. I never returned. I became a vegetarian shortly a after.

freebyrdll --- 11 years ago -

OMG!! doxie momma!! YIKES!

ms_mm --- 11 years ago -

Had lunch there today - it was delicious - the Shrimp Mazatlan.

I wasn't there when the incident yesterday occurred, so I'm not going to judge them on information that I'm not 100% sure of.

Dotti --- 11 years ago -

We eat there all the time and the food always taste good and never had an issue with services.

Just like ms_mm said, I won't judge them based off of something someone on here says. People on here are not always correct or have the full information.

ET --- 11 years ago -

Sorry for the guy with the heart attack but you people sure get carried away...the poster wasn't even there, maybe the friend asked for the check? Didn't appear they were holding up the EMTs until they got paid.
Did sound like the restaurant had quite a bit of upset around this incident, why shouldn't they get paid, not a charity.

doxie momma --- 11 years ago -

It was my daughter (23 ) and her boyfriend (25) who were there. She did try to get the check from the waiter to offer to pay but there was a lot going on. I am sure if given the chance someone would've paid for their meal. There is nothing to get "carried away" over. There are no exaggerations. It is a simple story of no compassion or manners. The waiter handed the friend a bill. He did not ask for the bill. He was beside his friend who was receiving cpr being wheeled out to the ambulance at the time.

Emperor of Kingwood --- 11 years ago -

Not making any excuses for their apparent boorish behavior but, the more and more people who arrive here and bring their own sense of social mores from their native land, the more some of our more traditional customs and sense of social conduct errode.

Edgar Po Wong --- 11 years ago -

Maybe he did that to get out of paying his tab.

Biggun --- 11 years ago -

Really? You think that ride in the ambulance is free?

Edgar Po Wong --- 11 years ago -

It could be, if you find the right lawyer.

TinktheSprite --- 11 years ago -

El Ranchero is a heart attack waiting to happen. Not a fan.
