Moved here about 8 months ago and we were told Grand Parkway would make it smooth sailing 25 minutes to the Woodlands once opened. Haven't tried it yet but google maps show it's quicker to get most places the old way. Has anyone tried the GP that can help determine if it is, indeed, quicker to get to some places and, if so, to where?

Really trying to get to Trader Joe's and good, locally sourced restaraunts (farm to table type).

Thanks!

fuzz81 --- 5 years ago -

I imagine GP would be faster to the woodlands. The old fastest way involved lights on 1960, or going through the airport. I imagine GP will have less traffic. Of course you'll probably spend 40 minutes on I45 between Hardy and woodlands parkway anyway though ;)

superdork --- 5 years ago -

I've been using it since it opened. It's certainly faster plus it's very nice not having lights or traffic. Granted, you have to get to it, which is a chore coming from the Woodlands at 5 pm. Even getting stuck in 20 mins of Woodlands traffic, it's still faster than using 1960 or 242/1314. I highly recommend it. Wait, I mean, don't use it - I want it to stay traffic free so it's faster for me!! :-)

fuzz81 --- 5 years ago -

Is it open contiguous from 59 to 290? Might help avoiding traffic getting to Austin

Emperor of Kingwood --- 5 years ago -

The pre Grand Parkway route to The Woodlands was 1314 to 242. Traffic to and from Downtown and internal was one of the major reason I moved from The Woodlands 5 years ago.

DVaz --- 5 years ago -

25 minutes from near the front of Kingwood to 45 by the Woodlands for me. It's not that busy either. Half the time of 1314 to 242 to 45.

Not sure about from the 59, but definitely open from the 45 all the way to the Stafford area, passing 290, 249, and I-10

a889324uu are you from California?

fuzz81 --- 5 years ago -

What does California have to do with that response?

It's amazing that you pay attention to all the celebrity gossip, but you don't remember me saying ten trillion times I was born and raised in Texas - Stafford and Houston to be exact.

ce1722 --- 5 years ago -

38 minutes from 59 to I-10. This is definitely faster than the Sam Houston Tollway or going through town especially at peak traffic times. Expensive so I likely will only use it when I am in hurry.

MERomere --- 5 years ago -

I've taken it twice to The Woodlands and would have to say that it depends upon where in The Woodlands you are going. The GP is faster to the mall area, since it comes out just South of there and you can avoid all of the lights on 1314 and 242. If you are going to the 242 area, like Costco, St. Luke's, etc., I think that the 1314/242 route is faster around rush hour. It is probably about the same at other times. Time will tell. The GP is definitely quicker to get to Tomball, 249, 290, or Katy. It's smooth, fast, and has little traffic now.

I have a friend in near Richmond. Can I hope on it north of here and take it straight over to that area/59 over there?

"I have a friend in near Richmond. Can I hope on it north of here and take it straight over to that area/59 over there? "

Yes, but I think it would be slower than just taking 59

reh6110 --- 5 years ago -

It's all going to depend on the time of day. On a Sunday afternoon I made it from 45 to my driveway in Elm Grove I'm less than 30 minutes which was unheard of using alternate routes before.

As for going to the other side of 59, I'd probably take 99. One its 75 not 60 and 65 and two, you don't have to deal with the bottle neck at GRB/45.

Annie's Mom --- 5 years ago -

Just how do you get onto it at I45 coming back to Kingwood? We tried coming back from the back of the Woodlands last week. Missed it totally both at Gosling and at I45. Just went on 242/1314 in the end.

reh6110 --- 5 years ago -

Coming from the mall today I went south on 45 and there was an exit about a mile down. It took you on a feeder for a long time, actually past the east bound exit, but eventually I got to a light, turned left and I was on 99. From mall to driveway in 30 minutes.

LMAO! What an megalomaniac you are! You rate your importance right up there with celebrities and feel your comments should be exalted as such? Who the heck are you? You're nothing but an internet troll, that's who. 3/4 of what you claim is probably fabricated as it is.

I have stated numerous times where I am from and from what university I obtained my degree, yet I have absolutely no expectation that anyone will remember. Why? Because no one probably cares. The fact that you think people care (Miss Understanding's query not withstanding), just confirms how much value you give yourself on an anonymous message forum.

bwahahahaha "...you don't remember me..."

How narcissistic.

LOL REALLY?!!! Like I remember all your details because you think you are akin to a celebrity!!! Now that is real LOL material!

Fuzzy I said that originally about this a889 gal because of the lingo she used. Texans do NOT refer to the freeways in that fashion but they sure do when they are California gals and more specific southern Cali!! THE 45. THE 59.
I have never met ONE TEXAN who speaks like that so I am calling you out as a storyteller!!

That is what you deduced from that post? YOU ARE a narcissist. Sadly, none of what you say is probably true.
Your embellishments are the laughingstock of this forum, at least among the sane posters.

Man, you guys will argue about anything.

Dorothy Parker --- 5 years ago -

So, if you needed to go from Kingwood/ Atascocita to Jersey Village, what's faster?

I am not arguing. My post is merely an observation.

PhoKing --- 5 years ago -

I took a Segway and made it within 2 days. Much faster than before. Even confused the toll tags. Free trip IMO.

BW8 to Jersey Village.
