"Bernie Sanders almost certainly will not win the Democrat nomination, but he has broken Barack Obama?s youth vote primary turnout records. Tufts University analyzed the available data (25 states) and found Sanders has a higher percentage and more votes that Obama did in 2008.

Sanders has won 71 percent of the under-30 vote, compared to Obama?s 60 percent ? and Sanders has accomplished this in a losing bid. One of every four Sanders voters is a millennial.

So, is this just a nice accomplishment for the Senator, or will it have a real impact on the race after Sanders exits?

Sanders? millennial victories aren?t just about him and his popularity. They?re also about Hillary Clinton and her unpopularity among voters under age 30.

If you look at the current polling data, these millennial Bernie supporters are her Achilles Heel. These polls show that many young voters, who love Sanders, do not plan to support Hillary Clinton in the fall. This week?s polling from Quinnipiac revealed Clinton hemorrhages young Sanders supporters in the general election.

While Sanders would win more than 60 percent of millennials in the general election, Clinton would win just 40 percent. That 20 percent of millennials who support Sanders but not Clinton say they will vote for Libertarian Party candidate Gary Johnson or Green Party candidate Jill Stein, or just stay home. In other polls, some have even said they?d vote for Trump.

A May YouGov poll went even further, showing that 45 percent of Sanders voters would abandon Clinton.

Without winning a large majority of millennials, the Democrat coalition that elected Obama twice will fall apart. Obama won more than 60 percent against both Republican candidates. Statistically, a Democrat would need a bare minimum of 55 percent of the under-30 vote to win (all other things being equal).

If Clinton stays around 40 percent millennial support, she will lose.

And, she?ll have Sanders to thank. Sanders has continuously attacked Clinton on her policy differences with millennials ? on foreign policy, Super PACs, cronyism, and DNC corruption. While millennials never have particularly liked Clinton, Sanders has solidified their negative view of her, exposing her Achilles Heel for other candidates to exploit this November.

I'm 40, but I voted for Sanders. It's not just millennials. I know a large group of people voting for Sanders that are in my age group. There is a massive movement online against Hillary, not to mention Trump.

There is a massive movement online against Hillary,

And yet some on here are still in denial that the Democrat party is deeply divided.

LMFAO

AprilMayNovember --- 9 years ago -

Not me Prolix, I know it's divided. However Trump could be compared to an idiot that came in for a job interview when he was clearly not qualified. In my opinion, I don't see him making it to POTUS. He might get close, but I just don't see it happening.

trailwoodmom --- 9 years ago -

AprilMay, that's the kind of thinking the Republican Establishment had in terms of the nomination, except they didn't think he'd even come close.

Challenger --- 9 years ago -

except they didn't think he'd even come close.

Just goes to show how smart they are.

AprilMayNovember --- 9 years ago -

Trailwoodmom, I agree. I am not terribly surprised given his former competitors, however.

I really think the new professional generation is sick of the status quo, which would explain Obama's popularity in my book. Trump is, well, nuts, and Sanders is the sweet, cool grandpa with loads of wisdom to offer. That is how I perceive their overall view, anyway. Clinton, for many, represents the previous establishment, which is stale, outdated. In a literary sense, she smells of mothballs. Many are also tired of the battle of the dynasties, where Bush and Clinton are names that should never sit at the presidential desk again.

One thing we can say for sure, both of the previously mentioned candidates are out to change the establishment, one way or another.

sheddy --- 9 years ago -

Trump in a bully and not my first or second choice, but he is a business man and he does know how to find the best person for any job. He has the ability to help, but whether he would, who knows. I detest Hillary and Bernie is popular with the kids, because they want all is freebies. Don't know what they are going to do when they are left trying to pay for it all. I hope they are capable of holding down a decent job, because they are going to have one hell of a tax bill if Bernie is elected.

AprilMayNovember --- 9 years ago -

I am no expert obviously, but the numbers put out there indicate a tuition-free college system would be cheaper than what we've spent on the F35. I don't know. I do know that I still owe 11K and my ex owes ~108K (my ex is a doctor). I don't want that kind of debt laid on my children when they pursue their higher education, whatever it is they may choose.

a2645039uu --- 9 years ago -

"Sanders, the sweet cool grandpa's with loads of wisdom to offer."

That has got to the the most inaccurate statement ever posted on the Internet. He is more like that lazy brother in law who never had a job but wants to hold everyone accountable for his inadequacies.

"Wisdom." Sheesh!

AprilMayNovember --- 9 years ago -

Hey, I don't know him personally. He hugs his wife sincerely. Seems sweet to me. He's old, gotta have a few experiences that we have not. I like him. Say what you want, but for us armchair warriors, it's just opinion.

gunsnroses --- 9 years ago -

Who would any sense would vote for a Socialist like the "never done anything" Bernie Sanders ( known draft dodger and welfare queen). Google the Socialist mess that Venezuela is going through. America is a capitalist country founded on greatness. If you like a Socialist government go "Dumpster Dive" with the spSocialist in Venezuela America doesn't need anyone who wants entitlements.

a2645039uu --- 9 years ago -

"sweet to me. He's old, gotta have a few experiences that we have not. I like him. Say what you want, but for us armchair warriors, it's just opinion."?

So, you want to vote for him because he hugs his wife and must have some experiences because he is old?

Good, Lord.

AprilMayNovember --- 9 years ago -

I vote for Sanders because I want a better future for my kids. Being sweet to his wife shows character. I'm sick of the dynasties and I do not particularly like hate mongering asshats in the whitehouse. I don't like trophy wives or men that value that mentality. Trump is a creep about his daughter, too. He appears to have no respect for women. I would say that Hillary and Trump both have no respect for the majority of people in America (ie. middle class).

I don't want entitlements, I earned my place with hard work and education. That bachelor of science degree on my wall cost me a bit. I want it to be a little easier for my kids to do the same. It should be. Life in our society should be easier now, but it does not seem to be.

One sign of a rational mind is a lack of insults in discussion. "Go dumpster dive" in Venezuela shows a lack of rationality, and "Good lord" on discussion of emotional decisions could be taken to mean "oh this woman is hopeless" and remains ambiguous and possibly misogynistic, rather than presenting why one might disagree, even if subjective. I can't tell however, as it's ambiguous. Why don't you explain, then? My posts on politics are subjective, as are most of ours. That's why I often state that it is an opinion.

So, explain your thought processes. If you want to say Mr. Sanders "never done anything", then why don't you show why. Your statement can be factually proven if it's true, so show that he really did nothing. Timelines are nice in that way, and easy to put together. I am positive that a timeline is available somewhere.

Can't they work their way though school? Pay as you go, self fund.

Or he is an arrogant, narcissistic blowhard who doesn't know enough to know that he doesn't know enough. Fraud.

Emperor of Kingwood --- 9 years ago -

I'm not a Trump supporter, but you can't ignore the amount of support he is receiving from a sizable amount of the American people.

AprilMayNovember --- 9 years ago -

Red, I agree. The white house is not a business or a corporate entity.

Emperor of Kingwood --- 9 years ago -

How would you fund all the give-aways he is proposing?

Emperor of Kingwood --- 9 years ago -

Red, I agree. The white house is not a business or a corporate entity.

True enough. Its called the Executive Mansion because its suppose to house the nations chief executive. Which candidate has more successful executive experience?

2020 elections that don't include republicans.?

This country would not be better off with a dictatorship...

sheddy --- 9 years ago -

I don't want the government paying for health care and I sure don't want them paying for college. Anything they touch seems to end up costing twice as much, if not more. Kids these days would be better off if they did have to work to pay for college. Maybe they would see the importance of getting a degree in something where they can make a living. I flat out told my kids that I wouldn't pay for something they couldn't support themselves with after they graduated. It is absolutely crazy to spend $100,000 or more for an art history degree. Of course, they are going to have a hard time paying for it, but if they want to borrow the money, that is their business. Bernie wants to make it my business.

jackass --- 9 years ago -

It's been a dictatorship for a long time disguised as a two party system. most are just too stupid to notice or care. All you care about is the competition, it might as well be the NFL.

them --- 9 years ago -

The Bernie people don't realize that there are different types of free. There's a big difference in "free beer" and "free puppy".

Butterbean --- 9 years ago -

Not to worry. HRC will be the next President of the United States.

Trump will do something nice. He's such a gracious loser.

them --- 9 years ago -

there's a reason she's not releasing those Goldman Sachs transcripts.

There's a reason the financial services industry has given her $21,000,000.

She won't get elected without releasing the transcripts. She'll eventually release an edited version.

Trumps a d-bag but he'll be relentless on those transcripts.

sheddy --- 9 years ago -

Trump is thin skinned. He can dish it out and call his opponents every name in the book, but if anyone says anything about him he acts like a five year old. I do think we need a business man in office. Obama doesn't have a clue about how businesses are run. Trump will hound Hillary about releasing things. She hasn't had to deal with someone like him.

the problem for Trump is you can't fire your underlings (the Congress!) when they don't carry out your orders!

Clinton's BIL arrested for DUI. Not only do we get Hillary as President but her family's baggage. What a disgrace.

fuzz81 --- 9 years ago -

You're obsessed karass. All I have to say is Donald Trump. America is the laughingstock of the world right now.

Challenger --- 9 years ago -

All I have to say is Donald Trump. America is the laughingstock of the world right now.?

If we are ( and I doubt that), it could be because our leaders sold us out. We are bankrupt and lost our way a long time ago.

Butterbean --- 9 years ago -

Hillary just moved a little closer with the vote in Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands.

Trump just moved a little further from reality. He's gonna do something nice.

Dorothy Parker --- 9 years ago -

Let's delve into every CEO's background and family baggage and see what comes up. If they have relatives with any sort of arrest records, let's fire them. That family baggage is such a disgrace and a direct reflection on that CEO and their ability to do their job.

Karras --- 9 years ago -

BB, please let us know what Hillary plans to do? I haven't heard any details from her.

well, except her plan to restrict the 2nd Amendment is a real winner.

Sadly, demoncrats are more interested in fighting their fellow countrymen. At least Trump is trying to help his.
