So, what are our options if any?

AMDG --- 7 years ago -

can I add an option for tweeting DJT doing the body slam with Kim Jong un picture in place of the CNN logo ??

whatchamacallit --- 7 years ago -

Unmanned, unmarked drone with singular, individual target.

Karras --- 7 years ago -

Are they really a threat at this point? I hate for the US to get drawn into another never ending "Conflict".

Not KU --- 7 years ago -

Id like to see the US go further on its development of shooting their missiles out of the sky with ours.

brookings Institude article on options

IMO a really well thought out and well written article on this issue - worth a few minutes to read -

wayward1 --- 7 years ago -

I can't stand 'em. NK thrives off of attention and bluster. They get stronger when we get scared.

Let's just ignore them and cut off ties, trade and communication. Let them lead their own miserable lives in silence.

BuiltinTX70 --- 7 years ago -

Everybody wants something. Sit down and find out exactly what he wants. Perhaps there can be a amendable cure, at least temporarily.

And the entire time you look at the possibility of knocking him off and have a regime change.

Any type of military action would backfire completely, IMO, and hence the reason nothing has been done over the decades.

AMDG --- 7 years ago -

Sit down and find out exactly what he wants.

he wants to stay in power, and an end to US -Skorea alliance

from the article I linked above -

Today, we know that nuclear weapons fulfill two core requirements for the regime. First, nuclear weapons ensure the regime?s survival. Pyongyang is convinced that the United States will not attack a country that has nuclear weapons and is prepared to use them. But a second reason for North Korea?s nuclear weapons and missiles now seems clear: DPRK representatives say privately that, thanks to their nuclear weapons, they have the United States ?deterred.? They assert that the United States must now live with a nuclear-armed North Korea and accept its demand to negotiate a peace treaty to replace the Korean War armistice agreement and conduct U.S.-DPRK ?arms control talks.? The goal of these talks, they declare, would be to remove the U.S. ?threat,? which they define as the U.S.-ROK alliance, American troops in South Korea, and the U.S. ?nuclear umbrella.

AMDG --- 7 years ago -

Pyongyang appears to believe that its nuclear weapons have fundamentally changed the dynamics of U.S.?North Korea relations. Pyongyang thinks it can now compel Washington to end the U.S.-ROK alliance and remove the U.S. extended deterrent, allowing the North to achieve its ultimate goal: the reunification of the peninsula on its terms. And by threatening to use nuclear weapons, Pyongyang?s message to the United States is: ?We are willing to risk nuclear war to achieve our goals, are you??

Pyongyang?s belief that it has changed the balance of forces on the Korean Peninsula is troubling. So, too, is its desire to leave the United States with no alternative but to deal with a nuclear-armed North Korea. That is why it has declared the goal of denuclearization dead, and why the North says it will continue to expand its nuclear arsenal. By making its intentions explicit, Pyongyang hopes to force the United States to choose between accepting a nuclear-armed North or risking war to prevent it.

Give them Texas...

AMDG --- 7 years ago -

to sum up the path of action the article suggest;

Increased US military activity in the area. Show that a nuclear NKorea gets just the opposite of what they want, and think it will do.

Gradual increases in sanctions up to those implemented against Iran. Starve them of access to hard currency markets - exclude them from the WW banking community.

Threaten US involvement in regime change

Assure that US - Nkorea dialog can return with a non - nuclear N korea

Sometimes you have to use the big stick for it to remain an effective deterrent.

This crazy person Kim Jong-un needs to stop using our oxygen.

Prolix Raconteur --- 7 years ago -

Give them Texas...

Or just nuke 'em and maybe their nukes won't reach the pacific northwest after all.

AMDG --- 7 years ago -

The United States and South Korea could take military action against North Korea, destroying its known nuclear, missile, and military infrastructure, including nuclear production and storage facilities. Such an attack would leave the DPRK incapable of mounting a significant conventional counterattack and render its army largely ineffective as a fighting force. But North Korea could still inflict major damage on South Korea, and even a broadly successful air campaign would not guarantee that North Korea could not use its nuclear or other weapons of mass destruction against South Korea, Japan, and U.S. bases. Military action against North Korea is a dangerous option that could undermine regional stability, risk a conflict with China, create peninsula-wide chaos, and cause major damage to our South Korean ally.

Judas --- 7 years ago -

Pressure China to act? LOL I guess Fix NoNews has neglected to mention that China is supplying the North Koreans with weaponry. LOL

Cut the head off the snake.

whatchamacallit --- 7 years ago -

Whatever is done, it needs to be quickly. I think he needs to be blown away. Use any sort of unmarked, unmanned drone and take him out, while in public, for the world to see, but never admit it was us. Seems sneaky and I'm not usually for this type of thing but he REALLY needs to be gone and not just for our sake. He is unhinged and not going to get better with age.
Also, that would certainly make his predecessor think twice about trying to push his weight around. I'm sure his subjects would be over-joyed. Why are we in this situation of having to deal with this crazy man? Oh yeah, once again, on another important matter, Odumba55 did nothing for 8 years.
